What do I pair my marker duke's with?

I've been sitting (ouch) of a pair of markerdukes since late April. Any suggestions on what I might pair these with? I'm135lbs and just 5'5", but I'm not afraid of longer skis especially sinceboth of my other regular pairs are short (and feel real short)

My park ski is a 2007 Karma 169, my fatter ski is a 2007 Gotama 169. I skiaround lake Tahoe, mostly Kirkwood and Sierra (2 hours and 35 minutes from myplace in Berkeley). I'm not going to land these things switch off 12 footers, but I do ski switch and spin enough to want to mount these things near themiddle of a pretty symmetrical ski.

I probably ride crud/crust/cement as much as powder, but I'm more often in thetrees than on the corduroy (though I'd like to be able rip quickly downhardpack too).

So, there's a couple of skis I'm looking at, sort of in this order:

The Sir Fransis Bacon
Volkl Chopsticks
Volkl Wall
Nordica Zeros

The dukes will be my first AT setup. I can probably pull off two pairs of skis thisseason (really two sets of skis and one more pair of bindings). So how do I complementwhat I have already?

What do I pair the duke's with, and what should I be considering for my other setup.

Thanks

why did you get dukes? your gonna be ridin on the lowest din setting and your probably not even going to use the the rondene'e feature on em. How old are you anyway? you shouldnt even be within spittin distance of bindings like those

prophet 100's or moment tahoes, both very light to accomodate the weight of the dukes and both super sick all around charger skis

You pretend to sell them to XavierD then at the last second you sell them to me~

Anyways ill be putting them on a pair of JJs since theyre a sick pow ski but damn light, something to think about. I also looked into putting them on katanas or bibby pros. Of course, this is for sidecountry/short tours... but since youre using dukes im assuming thats what youre after~

Although it wasn't an option, I would say the K2 Obsethed. Mini rocker isn't as good as regular camber for ascending, but is far better for descending. And by far better, I mean faaaaaaaaaaar better.

the obsethed has regular rocker. the 07/08 seth has mini rocker

put them on K2 Baker/Shuksan skis.. best AT ski ever but they aren't twintip...

so 4frnt VCT, Line Prophet 100, Armada ANT

whats the difference between regular rocker and mini rocker? the obsethed has something like 1cm of rocker over 20cm's. that is like half that of the hellbent or other simmilar rockered skis?

I'd call it more progressive than regular... Go hold your Hellbents and Obsethed next to each other and tell me the bend is them same.

the obsethed has exactly half the rocker of the hellbent, but the 07/08 seth had like 1cm of rocker... I rode those all this season and it was barely noticeable.

Any thoughts on Prophet 130's vs. the SFBs?

How about SFBs vs. Chopsticks?

Thanks for the suggestions so far (save for selling them)

are you actualy planing on using them for touring? because those are not really the best touring skis out there, in fact they all pretty much suck for touring.

Umm i personally like the chopsticks the most out of what u have been mentioning. Super fun ski and will work great through the trees up at sierra. But i mean your option is next time your going up u could just PM me and i'll take those dukes off your hands.

Atomic Sugar Daddy's are good for touring, I know a guy who uses them for gnarly backcountry in B.C. They're also quick in the trees, and can handle the corduroy easy. If you can find em' grab em'. Otherwise...

Drake Powder Tools, Wailer 105 is a good touring ski, Fattypus D-Sender, if you want to do more backcountry stuff. K2 Seth's look legit. Rossi's Scratch Steeze, and of Volkl Gotama's, those are a solid one-ski quiver.

I don't know about this years models, but if they haven't been discontinued, i'd still say these.

i guess also this is going to depend on your deffenition of a "tour" will you be hiking thousands of vertical on the regular.....or are you going to "tour" up to some mini golf or shorter descents? if you are looking to tour thousands of vertical all the time dukes arent what you are looking for i think. they weigh too much to and arent the best tourers to clunk them around for the 8 hour approach.

you need to save your legs for the descent not use em all up on the climb.

but if you just want to go up to some cliffs you see from the road, or a shorter tour here and there, or getting back inbounds from some side country or maybe doing a few big ones dukes will be fine.

you can get dynafits, then u need special boots, but they weigh ~2 pounds for the pair, the dukes weigh like 11, plus your alpine boots which probably weigh 12 pounds a pair vs. some dynafit boots that weigh 6, so your dynafit set up would still weigh less than your dukes alone.

i had a friend who had dukes on the STEEZE he seemed to dig the set up. we were lapping a 30 footer inbounds each time trying to take it bigger, his bindings never released, i dont think id do that with any other "touring " binding.

those are bakers, right? my dad has last years with dukes on em, but he kinda likes his old frichti diamirs better, cause you can go farther forward in a walking motion than the dukes. and there way easier to release to get to the walking setting

You should pair your Marker Dukes with the Surface Live Life 1 (pictured on the left). At 179 they are 140-112-138. Complete with, tip to tail wood core, blend of dense and soft wood, full length carbon fiber Stringers, thick 2.5 mm edge, 30 degree ABS sidewall construction, triaxial fiberglass laminate, and sidewall mounting points. Along with being a blast to ski, the live life 1 is straight bombproof. It will slay pow, late season crud, and even park jumps. Not to mentin the graphics looks dope!

I went with the Karhu PFDs from last year in a 182. I'll let you know how that all works out with Kirkwood and Sierra passes this year.
