what do bindings do?

they keep you in....and some have some safety features too. Look pivot series is good. Rossignol power 120's and salomon 912 ti's

more expenzive bindings usually have more technology in them in order to give you a safer relese when you need it and don;t release when you don;t want too, the usually have a higher din setting, meaning that that the spring can hold your boot in tighter, since more aggressive skiers ski harder than beginners therefore need a better bindings, which = more expensive binding. Also they can be lighter in some cases by using titianuim and more expensive parts
