ski park and backcountry but the bindings will be mounted on my park skis so thats what the bindings have to perform well at

din 12 enough or should i go with 14?

i have the chart and several years experience of tuning all of mine and my friends skis...i believe i can help or at least tell him if a din of 12 will be fine or not enough

If you have several years of tuning experience then without even looking at a chart, you would know that no chart in the world would recommend a din of 12+ when the skier is 165lb - irrespective of all the other variables whcih go into deciding on a release setting..

The only way to get a din of 12+ at his weight is via discretionary settings.

Umm..what the fuck are you talking about?

Depending on his BSL - a din of between 8-9.5 would be fine.

Thats the problem - people recommending release settings which are FAR too high for what the skier needs. I refer back to the link which was posted in this thread.

Don't tell people how to or what to adjust their bindings to unless you know exactly what you are talking about, or are certified.

he meant that a binding with maximum din 12 would put him within the optimum release range of 8/9

Go to a shop. Ask them. They have a Din chart, and can set your bindings right for a half decent price.

if you're super dooper awesome and way more advanced than the din they give you, turn it up. Duh.

He's asking what bindings to get, not for what setting he should be on.

Get whatever you can get cheap. If they're the same price go for the 14s.
