What Clothing Brand Should I Support?

I bought Saga gear for years. I loved the pricing and the options they had. I know the past 2 years were a bad look for them, but I had nothing but good experiences with them for a long time. However, with their current limbo status, I'm guessing it's time I move on.

I need a new coat and pants. Haven't bought new gear in 3 years. I really like using features like Afterpay or Sezzle, since they help my wife and I's budget (plus my wife doesn't get as upset when it's split up and not a one time gouge to our checking account LOL)

Any recommendations out there?

I’m in the same boat as you, bought Saga from the time I was ~12 years old up until last year. I usually have 2 or 3 different outfits so I’ve owned stuff from most of the typical brands out there. IMO Flylow is some of the best bang for your buck out there, as is Trew. Obviously Patagonia TNF Norrona are all nice stuff but they’re stupid expensive most of the time. Oakley is also making some sick stuff this year which I personally love to see.

I love my Flylow gear. 100000% would recommend

I got a trew powfunk jacket last year and I love it. Their stuff from the previous year is usually half off which is clutch. Friendly and responded pretty quickly when I was emailing them about the fit and sizing of different jackets. Pretty sure you can pay in installments too, I just checked their website.

Pretty sure all their jackets are shells, but I've never been cold in it when layering with my base and mid layer. Waterproofing works great. I don't have any of their pants, but have heard good things and will definitely be going to them when I need to replace mine.

TLDR: Killer product and great company/customer service

I love secondhand stuff, I’m super impressed with strafe atm, found an XL strafe nomad for 100 basically new. Has a real nice baggy fit too. I’d check out the nomad they have.

heard great things about armada too, and picture organic is a really cool brand in how they make their stuff

Wornwear.com is Patagonia's official second-hand site and usually has some pretty great deals. Haven't bought any outerwear from it but all the vest/shirts/clothes I've bought through the site have been basically new condition.

I bought my shell and bibs from wornwear and would highly recommend it. If the thing you're looking at isn't in perfect condition (which it often is) they put pictures up of whatever is wrong with it. Everything there is about 50% off or so it seems.

IMHO Burton has the best bang for buck ratio of the high-end materials & nice design offering companies. Most of my outer layers are Burton, while close to everything underneath is Norrøna.

Also check out the Locals Sale. Tons of gear lightly used for cheap. The also take shop pay which is like the programs you use. You can also use Quad pay on any website.

Definitely am a former longtime saga customer, and also gotta recommend flylow too, ive got a couple pairs of their gloves and once my current o'nell/saga kit dies i'm goin for their stuff.

Also gotta hand it to O'neill. I bought a ski jacket for $100 on last season's gear sale at my local shop from them in 2016. that thing is still fuckin kickin, like its still warm as fuck and everything, got a bit of wear and it smells like weed and sweat but its nothing major enough to warrant buying a new one. I honestly dont wanna buy another coat until that thing falls apart

** I know O'neill is more of a snowboard focused company but in 2016 I just likes the jacket and it was cozy and I really dont give a fuck because a jacket is a jacket

Just got a Planks jacket and it's super friggin nice. Came from a north face jacket and the Planks is way nicer, pockets everywhere you need them, really nice materials and fit and color schemes and everything is just awesome. Killer sale on evo not too long ago, got a $340 jacket for $165. Would recommend

Not sure if you’re super into the park/street niche of skiing but Arsenic Anywhere is a great company to support if you like dank hoodies/windbreakers to ski in and sick hats.

Dan, who runs it, is a great dude and arguably the biggest philanthropist in skiing. Can’t think of someone who cares more about the community than that guy.

The money he makes from Arsenic gets re-invested back into the community through street skiing funding, he will give crews money for going out and making street videos and such. That’s what’s up.

Also this is another reason why I like Vishnu… a lot of the money is re-Invested back into the riders. Big name guys like Child Labor and even smaller name guys like Max Siudak aka yung snow.

Those are dope, hope some more badd shawty beanies come out

Vishnu IG story giving cal his ski money in an envelope was one of the dopest things I’ve seen in a long time. And I bought one of those young snow beanies even though my pointy ass head doesn’t fit in them well just to show support

Spot on to what I was gonna answer. Strafe supports freeride tour juniors ams and pros, and their gear is legit. I preordered a black sickbird suit for this winter and a powder pink suit for my girlfriend… that I broke up with so I will have one for sale I guess haha

Anyway Armada supports great riders and I like their dark muted saturated colors on their shell outerwear. I dig their bibs and extra long jackets

Tall T isn’t notorious for outerwear but if you need some fire hoodies and windbreakers please buy from Tall T. Best customer service and sponsor the dopest athletes in the game. Maybe harlaut for pants, also planks has recycled jackets which is dope

Thank you! I am putting out the badd Shawty in black next Friday along with plenty of other headwear options.

OP:

I haven’t gotten into tech outerwear yet but I do put out some nice jackets sometimes and im working on a new crossover type pant that is valid on hill and off.

People love to hate on this company but Virtika actually makes amazing quality gear

Ordered an Oakley jacket yesterday. Gotta say, their online size guide is easily the most helpful one I've ever used. Enter height and weight, shoulder and belly shape, fit preference, and it gives you a size that their returns data determines us the one that you'll be the least likely to return. Ingenious tool.

Except they dont? I've only ever had a hoodie from back when they were First Drop and that shit was garbage. There have also been tons of reports on here of the seams frequently rip out of the pants and the waterproofing on jackets not standing up after a good amount of time.

Occasionally people find a piece from them that holds up, but compared to the other companies in their price rage like an Oneill or Saga, hell even Montec at this point - Virtika just doesn't compare. I think do think it's unfair to compare them to an actual technical outerwear company like a patagonia or flylow.

I have a 10k softshell hoodie styled jacket. It's comparable to one that I had from DC for a decade. Unfortunately Virtika is really the only company making something like this besides DC.

Virtika stitched their logo so it was super easy to remove it. The DC logo is heat pressed and massive.

That sounds like an awesome feature. I feel like the way the jacket rests on the skier can either make or break a purchase. Like I don't care if it's 25k waterproofing, if it fits like an oversized napkin, I can't stand the coat haha

Awesome suggestions, everyone, thanks!

Except for you, [tag=240692]@iced[/tag] - yours was not awesome

what can i say i like people who crash planes into the ocean

Screw the haters. Virtika shell bibs are great for $100-150 depending on their sales, which offer decent pricing. Lesh is pretty wild imo and their whole marketing platform is ridiculously entertaining

went with 686 bibs this year. wouldn't normally throw $ at a primarily snowboard brand but since they are starting to hook up guys like p white and duncan adams i figured i'd try them out

early impressions - they fit great and the material seems suuuper tough. waterproofing has yet to be tested but i'm optimistic about them

The people who downvoted this are jealous that Dan has the best clothing brand in skiing rn

Love my 686 jacket. Waterproofing holds up very nicely and it’s been one of the most comfortable and durable jackets I’ve ever owned.
