Get a truck if youre going to haul shit and go offroad, thats what their built for. As for fitting a sled AND a toolbox, forget it. Only way you could do that is a long bed and since you want an ext cab or crew cab, you will fucking hate backing the fucker out. Better to just get a truck and invest in sled trailor IMO.
As far as trucks go it sounds like your needs can only be achieved by a fullsize. You can pick up 88-98 Chevy 1500 models from anywhere to $1500-6000 depending on condition. However with those your going to look at 15 mpg tops unless they have the newer LS Vortecs in them. Better choice would be the newer 99-02 Silverados, they get better gas mileage, but also more expensive (still in that price range though).
