What Camera?

Hello M&A, I've been looking to upgrade from my T3i to something of higher build and image quality.

Budget: $1500-2500

50% photo 50% video

Gear: 28-70mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8, 8mm f2.8

I plan on filming: Action sports, Short Films

4k is just a bitch to work with, the a7s at 1920 is still amazing. However it is nice to have the option. Rented it for a weekend and had a blast using it. Thinking about buying one if i get sick of waiting for 5d iv or whatever they are going to call it

How is the a7s for stills?

I was impressed. I messed around with some star photography and it was insane how much information the raw files had to edit in post.

Since they announced the a7s ii has the price dropped or is that yet to happen? As of right now I'm pretty set on getting the a7s, is there anything else I should be aware of about the camera.. pros, cons?

there's one in M&A with extra batteries for 1700, just do a bit of searching and you can fo rsure find a7s/adapter for less than 2500 easy

Be aware that you don't have AF using an adapter. So if you're planning to switch from Canon then you'll either have to deal with no AF or you'll have to sell all your lenses and buy ones to fit your new system. Definitely worth considering if you're 50/50 photo/video...

Honestly I don't find my self using auto-focus very much, maybe it's because the T3i's auto-focus is pretty finicky, and for photos most of what I shoot doesn't require it.

If you have a decent lens + full frame + a creative eye, it'll work out great. This camera is a beast in low-light, so if you do anything related to that you'll be set.
