What camera should I get

I don't know what I should I am thinking between TRV95 or a VX1000 I have some fisheyes that I use on an old Sony camcorder that would fit also on a TRV95 but the VX1000 is just going to get more expensive as it gets older and the video has that cool look to it so what should I do

whatever you can find thats affordable, these old cameras are getting to be pretty ridiculously priced... how you use any camera that you have is more important than which camera it is.

honestly dude...i think either one is fine. youre right about the vx getting more expensive, but if youve got some extra cash it probably worth it. having a nice beefy cam is awesome. like someone else said though, its less about the camera you have and more about how you use it. i filmed on a sony a6000 for a while and got really comfortable with it. stick with something that youre comfortable with!

Im far from an authority on this subject but vx1000s are pretty expensive. You'd be dropping a decent amount of money on a 25 year old camera that has probably used a lot. Plus a fisheye would be mad expensive, and I've heard that the footage tends to look bad if u don't know what you're doing. Until recently I've been filming with a Canon gl2 which is much cheaper and i found it to be very reliable. So that might be on option for you.

That's true to an extent but there's a pretty big difference between different cameras. GoPro clips are never going to look like TRV clips

Ya VX video quality or something like it is what I’m trying to go for

i mean if you want a vx go for the 2k or 2100, please don’t let the 1k elitists tell you it’s any better. There’s tons of cheap minidv cams out there that aren’t vx1000s. If i were you i’d look for a cheap dvx or some shit, bawifally a little step above the 1k quality wise but without dealing with sony bullshit.

Gl2-vx2000-2100-dvx100-trv900-pd line of cams, etc. The 1k would probably give you the most problems.

I'm interested what are the differences between the 1k and the 2k besides that the 2k has a LCD screen

2000/2100:

LCD

Steadyshot issues with fisheye (2k)

Better in low light

probably more reliable

Half the price of a 1k

A lot more sturdy

vx1000:

looks cool

better daytime colors and crisp

What is better about it compared to the vx2000

It was literally the standard for independent filmmakers for most of the mid 2000s until HD took over, it’s a few years newer then the VX2000, doesn’t have the skate fanboy attachment so it’s generally cheaper. Eat the Guts was shot on DVX100.

everyone jerks off to the VX color/crispness but it looks like ass in the winter imo, your way better off with an HVX or HMC if your desperate for a handle cam cause DV tapes are a pain. If you need to have dv tape though get the DVX

What fish eye is good on it and also how durable is it to an extent

pretty much everything about the dvx is better, only downside is an awful sounding mic that doesn’t really matter

there’s really only one fisheye for those cameras on the market and they’re $160 unless you want to drop a few grand on a century fish

Honestly your first camera, buy a cheap dadcam on ebay (preferably sony because aftermarket batteries are ez and cheap to get) that shoots to an sd card and have fun with it. No one will steal it, if it breaks who cares and it will help you figure out what kind of camera you really want to invest in

That’s what I have been using

don't take this the wrong way OP, but if you have to ask a lot of questions/make several threads about what camera you should get, then it might not be smart to drop a bunch of money on an older camera. I think schoess is right. Plus, those cheap camcorders are really easy to film with and pass around to the homies. And you won't have any tape issues since it has an SD card

Ya I understand I’m currently using a little Sony camcorder but it uses mine DV tapes so I do know how to export them to a computer but anyways im just an indecisive person so that’s why I’ve been asking a lot of questions and thanks for answering some of them I just like hearing other people’s opinion

Get a gh3 with a fisheye and a mid-range lens for less, crop it to 4x3 and add grain, it will look the same as a dvx.

I have to agree with my man eHeath here, gh3 would be a great value for a camera, I think older camcorders are fun to shoot with but you can achieve the same image with other gear that has a LOT of other benefits

if you can’t figure out how to capture tape footage then i don’t think you should be asking which 20 year old minidv camera you should get

I definitely know how to capture MiniDV tapes if I said I didn't it was probably a typo
