What Camera/Camcorder?????

Maybe post back in this with how you like it. cause im between the hmc40, hmc150, and hvx200. The hmc40 is sick cause its a lot cheaper than those other two.
 
Don't get the FX1, HDV blows and even then the FX1 was never that great. I never liked that camera.

HMC40 > FX1 for sure.
 
I disagree, the fx1 is a great camera, perhaps the best HDV camera to date. You can get them used real cheap and they shoot great footage.
 
Meh the FX1 sucks, but the HMC40 is terrible in lowlight. That's one thing that the FX1 has on the HMC40.
Dude. Go DLSR. Unlike most kids on here, you will benefit from the shallow DOF. You said you're doing short films.
How familiar are you with DSLR's?
 
i recently bought a ag-hmc40 and could not be terrible and yes they arent that great in lowlight but if you are actually trying to film something in the dark you should have it lit well anyways.
 
No way. It lacks the color and image options of really any Panny, and the HDV codec is awful anyway. Tapes are dying, and if he's considering spending this much, he should go with something better. The only tape camera thats worth buying these days is a DVX, just because it's still awesome.
 
If you know how to use one, the footage comes out real sick. Of course its not gonna be as good as a solid state pani camera but you could snag a used fx1 for like 1500 and as long as the heads are good you'll be able to get some real good footage, real solid in low light and if you know how to use the color scenes you can get a really nice picture. Granted its 1080i60, that sucks but manageable.
