I'm in advertising in college and I want to buy a professional level video camera to start making television commercials. My budget is about $2000, I'm willing to go about 500 over if it really means that much more in quality. I'm willing to buy used aswell if I can get a really good deal. Thanks a lot.

your probably better of getting a DSLR and using that as a camera as they shoot very good quality HD and you have easily swappable lenses... Thats the best advice I can give with your budget. Maybe a cannon t2i?

You can find Panasonic hvx 200 used for about $2500 or look for the hmc 150. Both sweet cameras that I think would fit your needs. Or you can always go the DSLR way and look at a canon 7D or the rebel t2i is also a good choice.

I already have a Nikon DSLR, I need something that is going to be top notch for audio and video, thanks for your input though

thats pretty sweet, I like the interchangeable lens option. I also like the HMR the guy posted below that one. Fuck so many choices. What should I look for when buying? I know a lot about photography but not a lot about videography.

Not trying to start an argument or anything but you can look into low end HD cameras, but I have a few friends in the industry who film commercials for companies with 2 Cannon DSLR's you can get external mics for better sound, but the video quality is going to be just as good on a 15-20 MP camera. It all depends on what your shooting and what type of lenses you want/need

ya man im not putting down your idea at all, I just looked at the Nikon D7000 and it shoots in 1080p at 24fps. I just have no clue how this compares to a professional video camera you know?

your going to have to go and read some camera review sites for that direct comparison. However I know a lot of high end HD cameras are 5-15K... but there is a lot diminishing return for your money based on what you need to do. Best place would be a AV forum/review site

To put it into perspective the latest season of House was filmed on a 5d mkii and the intro to SNL was filmed on a 7D.

only shoots in 60i (interlaced) so only 30 real frames per second with no 24p or 60p option... and $2000 is a high price for this not so great camera. a T2i is a much better bet. I use both, and i like the t2i better.

or instead of wasting this post, you could give him a legit answer?

if you are trying to be "professional" about advirtising, there are a lot of great video cameras out there, a lot of which are going to run you a good amount of money if you want to be able to have lots of manual controls. which is why lots of people are switching to dslr. with a lot of other reason as well clearly. but look in to the 7d, or even a t2i for crazy video quality, as well as being able to interchange lens'. as of right now, this is the craze, 7d or 5dm2's

no

this is 1080i, and it is a consumer model, not a pro one. if hes going for interchangeable lens prosumer camcorder, he needs to wait until there is a bigger market

the others people have mentioned are all pretty solid. The canon xf100 looks sick, but theres no price listed for it, and it will prbly be over your budget. but if it isn't...
