there is so much stupid shit in this thread i really cant even begin to start, but ill try anyways, first off, yes cigarettes are bad, but only to a certain extent, all of you people who are against it seem to be convinced that every person who starts smoking at a young age and continues smoking for a good period of their life will die, i dont know if you really think this, but its just not true, i dont know any actual statistics, and it would be pretty pointless to attempt to find them because of the extreme bias of basically any site that contains information for or against smoking, but the point is that smoking definitely can do bad things, but themajority of smokers arent killed by cigarettes, this being said, yes smoking consistantly for a long period of time, wether it be weed or butts, does do damage to your lungs, so for the moron who said he smoked blunts every day, your probably worse off than the cigarette smoker, so other than the effect of smoke on our lungs, there are no other effects that occur in all smokers, maybe high blood pressure counts, but that is as debatable as shit like carcignogens, which some people THINK gives you an increased risk for cancer, but this is almost impossible to prove, this all being said, the risk for lung cancer, throat cancer, etc. is all increased by cigarette smoking, but it is basically impossible to link the increased risk of cancer with a certain chemical in the cigarette, so all you can really say is there is an increased risk in smoking, and we dont really know wether the cigarettes or just genetics has a greater effect in actually causing the cancer, so it is hard to say that cigarettes give you cancer and kill you, they only increase the risk for certain diseases, so if a person is willing to take that risk because they enjoy cigarettes, why bitch at them and call them stupid, its a fucking lifestyle choice people, i dont even smoke butts and im telling all of this shit like it is, we are all freeskiers, and there is a risk of death involved in our sport, obviously we all agree that the risk is worth the fun of skiing, but if someone feels the risk of death in smoking, which is obviously greater than skiing, is worth taking, dont bitch at them for it, because we all engage in risky behavior, and you dont have the right to criticize someone else for their choice of behavior, just because there are commercials that support your argument with mostly bullshit statistics, remember what mark twain said, there are three kinds of lies, lies, damn lies, and statistics

lineskier10, there are proven carconigens(sp?) in ciggeretts. there are chemicals that get absobed and put into the dna of replicating cells which distrupt the process and can cause the cell to become cancerous. maybe ill go dig up my old biology book and find the names of some of the chemicals.

What is a carcigongen? a chemical which can cause cancer. the very terminolgy you used in your statment contridicted your conclusion. these chemicals are called carcignogens because they cause cancer. If they didnt cause cancer, they wouldnt called carcignogens. we do know the causes of some cancers, for example breast cancer is caused by Onco gene's, and is genetic. Radiation causes cancer, i know this because my uncel who is a radiologist has told me so many times. When he started working they didnt know that X-rays could cause cancer, or were even harmful... they had no led vests or protective walls, they do now becaus they know the consequences of working with this kind of radiation. its the same with some chemicals. provflavin is one such chemical. it causes cells to mutate becuase it interfers with their DNA, along with chemicals like nitrous acid and ethyl Methanesulfonate. I know that people have gone crazy latley telling you that just about everthing, including milk, will cause cancer and i realize that most of it is blown out of proportin. But the chemicals in ciggarets are real threats to the health of cells in a persons mouth and loungs. Smokeing does cause cancer.

youn dont have to break up or change alot of the genetic code, you just have to be unfortunate enough for the right area to be effected. We have alot more dna than we ever use, and even what we use alot of it we only use once in our life
