What boots should I get?

Hello fellow Newschoolers. I am in the market for a new pair of snow skiing boots and require your assistance. A few things you should know about me.

-I am 5'7

-I am 125 lbs

-I am 17 years old

-I live in Illinois so ski about 80% park(50/50 rails and jumps). I do make 2 or 3 trips out west each year though in which I will partake in BC skiing.

-I would say my calves are on the low side of average and that my feet are relatively average regarding width.

-I am a size 11.5 shoe if that matters

-I am really not concerned about price because I am fairly sure my feet are done growing and a good pair of boots are a great long term investment regardless of price.

I know some of you will just say go to a bootfitter, but I would like to get an idea of what I am looking for before I do go. Any advice will be appreciated.

+k for helpful responses.

I hate being the nagging record but here it goes again. Bootfitter.

But the reason all the gear nuts will keeps saying this is the simple fact we are not looking at your feet. Every single persons foot is different and no one can say what boot will work for your feet unless they are looking at your feet.

Thats all I'll go into to the bootfitting reason cause sounds like your going to go to a BF and get checked properly.

What we can do is make some assumptions. You said you hit a lot park but do trips out west a couple times a year. Planning to do some BC stuff sounds like. At your size I say 100 flex boot would be good for you. A 100 flex will give you some flex in the park, but a better stiff feeling for hauling ass in the BC.

But this is just a assumption. Maybe you get to the store and find out you want stiffer/softer boot. Thats fine what ever feels right for your style of skiing.

What I highly recommend doing now that your feet stopped growing: Get a full custom orthodontic foot insert. If you never had one before good. You parents were smart enough to not buy something you were going to grow out of in season or two. If you parents did means they really love you or are really rich.

Full custom orthodontic is the way to go. It is made to give the exact amount of support on you feet that they need. Generic inserts will give you either too much support or not enough.

Ask around in reginaols where the best BFs are in your area. Go there get sized and see what they say. If it seems fishy, come back here and ask around. We Will try to give the best advice possible.

I could rattle off the questions in the world about boots to help you narrow down some choices but the simple fact is We are not looking at you feet. We can't tell you whats gonna fit well and what won't. A really Good bootfitter looking at your feet can tell you exactly whats going on and what to buy.

I definitely see what you are saying. I understand it is impossible to make a judgement without seeing everything first hand. The purpose of this thread was to get a general idea of what I should be looking for and you definitely helped in that regard.

This.

Drop any preconceived notion of what you should get, because it doesn't fucking matter if something is marketed well or worked for somebody else, it needs to fit you very well.

As others have said, go to a bootfitter.

Here is a video of what to expect. If they don't do shell check, ask about your skiing, discuss footbeds ect like in the video below, walk out the door and find somewhere else. I am at work so can't access youtube to embed.

Just a little update...

I went to a local ski shop and saw a bootfitter. He wasnt the most knowledgeable guy on boots, but it seemed sufficient enough. I applied alot of what you guys said into my purchase and I think i tried on 5 different pairs of boots and at least 2 sizes in each. I ended up getting SPK 75's with foot balance custom footbeds. Yes it is a junior boot, but I have extremely large feet for my calf size. Overall, I feel it was the perfect fit for my riding style and foot structure. I would just like to take this moment to thank all those who gave positive feedback in this thread and wish upon them many years of health and prosperity.
