Pretty aggressive skier

I want something thats not to heavy but still very durable.

Prices:

Griffon: $160

Pivot 14: $232

STH 12: $175

AXL2 120: $140

Pivot or STH are the best ones out of your list, highly backed on this site also. The other two are out for sure. Decide if you want turntable heel or not and you got yourself the binding you want.

But teh pivot 14 does not have the same toe as the pivot 18. Personally for the money I would get the STH 12 so long as its the driver version. One of the best toe pieces on the market, and allthough the heel is better on the Pivot 14, The heel on the sth is pretty bombproff. I have been using the STH 16 for 2 seaons and they holding up great.

Go STH 12 Driver. Bomb proof, STH 14 Driver even if you want that extra durability. Make sure it's the driver though.

And why are you worried about weight? Extra metal is going to weigh it down more, that's a given, but in the end, durability > weight. I doubt you'll even notice the weight of the bindings on your skis unless you're carrying a ski in your hand, and you're weak.

Same thing as tyrolia.

Go for the sth 12 and make sure it's the driver toe. IMO it's a better heel piece than the fks.

/thread. LOL

With all due respect to the Griffons, I'd put them last on that list.

Otherwise:

Pivot beats STH, if only because the heel is the best thing available on the market right now, even if it is a gigantic bastard to clip into if there's snow on your boots. The STH toe wins by a small margin, although the Pivot toe is still pretty good.

Axial comes next, same toe as the Pivot, heel is not quite so good but pretty bomber and they're cheap.

Griffon... you can get big brakes for them easily. And if you break them in some backwater resort they'll be able to get parts easily enough. Otherwise, I've broken too many Royal series bindings to spend my money on them any more. Although until I started riding a bit too hard for them (or maybe got too fat?) they served me well.

honestly not being a dick, but i would ask whoever works in skis at your shop, im assuming you work at one if you have a discount. that's probably bad news bears if they can't give you an answer you trust.

As someone who has sth12s and fks15s, i would recommend the FKS over the sths. This is my opinion and i don't claim to be an expert, i have skied on my sth12 for over a year, and just mounted the FKS and have only put a few days on them. My first impression on the FKS are all good. Release when i need them to, haven't had any pre-release issues, yes they are a bit heavy (all metal toe piece, and metal half moon heel) but when it actually comes down to it, the extra weight doesn't make as much of a difference as durability, and quality. Make sure to read all the responses in the this thread cause there are some good points raised. Just my two cents. (also I will be mounting all my future skis with FKS/Pivots, just because I like them that much more than the STHs). There are pros and cons to each binding, try to figure out which one best satisfies your needs and go from there.

I've been skiing a used pair of Griffons this year and I've had no problems. Just from reading different reviews and comments on NS about them, I don't expect to get an entire year out of the binding, but after maybe 20 days so far, I have no complaints.

So I wouldn't rule them out completely, especially if you're looking to save a bit of money.

^^^^Do you not expect more than a year out of that binding in general? Or all bindings? I've been using the STH 16s for 5 seasons, and they are still bombproof.

Like any other low DIN binding compared to its beefed up brother, if you feel it's needed, go 14 Driver, you can't go wrong

ah fuck it, im a pretty small and light guy. i supose the 14's would last longer but i dont think they are really necessary
