Music preference is always changing, at least for me, and i feel like keeping an open mind is key to discovering differnt kinds of music you enjoy.

Thats why in about February i decided to break out of my "all i listen to is underground rap and everything else sucks" phase and i tried to find some new stuff i liked. heres the top 5 i discovered.

hopefully some other posts in this thread will get peope to try some new stuff.

1. Streetlight Manifesto (punk/ska band that my friend told me to check out. Everything Goes Numb is now my favorite album.

2.Amy Winehouse..you know that ugly tatooed british chick thats on VH1 all the time? Turns out her album Back To Black is actually really sick. She has a great voice and the beats/rhythms and melodies on that album are great.

3. Public Enemy...obviously, being a hip hop fan, i knew who PE was, but i actually bought 3 of their albums and i gotta say, they are some of the most talented mofo's i have heard to date.

4. Motion City Soundtrack...I'm pretty sure this will get a chorus of ZOMG EMO LOL! but i dont care. i bought their first album on a reccomendation from a friend and they are so great. i can listen to both of their albums back to back on my ipod without skipping a single song. definetly a reccomendation.

5. Nelly Furtado...Yeah. i said it. laugh all you want, but buy her first and second albums and you will become a believer. unlike most pop females she can actually sing and he songs are ma catchy and fun to listen to.

6. EXTRA NUMBER ZOMG! Random 80's pop has been huge for me recently. Stacy Q, Blondie, Heart...all sick.

so those are my recent discoveries...what are yours?

i used to be all about classic rock but about a year ago i discovered something i like to call ski movie music its pretty much everything and anything and most non skiing folk dont understand that ski movie music is a genre but here are some sick artists:

gentleman

louis XIV

classified

moving units

rob the viking

jurassic 5

sweatshop union

and of course the one and only RJD2

I agree with you about Nelly Furtado, but only because Timbaland produced like every single song for her and Justin Timberlake. I still don't mind listening to her once in a while though.

as for new musical discoveries, not much for me. maybe i found out i can actually listen to reggae for more than 30 seconds. i found reggae i like, and now i'm able to really get into the mood.

something else i didn't discover, rather confirm, is that i'm a sucker for almost anything acoustic. hand anyone an acoustic guitar who has a decent voice, and i'm sure i'll listen to it. it's lead me to wishing i learned to play guitar years ago, so i could actually put some of my stuff to music.

and the last "discovery" if u want to call it that, is that i accepted how hip-hop is changing. i allowed myself to realize that there is a time and place for all types of hip-hop. whether it be some mainstream "hit" played 17 times a day on the radio that every kid and their family knows, but brings life to a party scene and gets girls moving. or the 'underground' hip-hop i've grown to love which made me realize that my stereotypes (and most others) of hip-hop from when i was younger were completely wrong, and it has truly changed who i am. i've accepted the fact that there is a new type of rap taking over, and i've just learned to not get angry and seperate the real hip-hop i love with the mainstream nonsense we always hear.

i've been sans computer for a while so this is like 3 months old

mattafix-the guys from photoplay, their entire cd is amazing

sufjan stevens-rediculously original acoustic/jazz/folk/orchestral songwriter amazing lyrics

the avalanches-if you liek rjd2, this is the original. you might have to be a little coked/ritalined out to liek him though.

maceo parker-horn player for pfunk. nasty jazz.

well my main things right now are hip-hop. also funk, soul, r&b, and jazz (but like the oldschool 60s and 70s stuff)

just dled some kool and the gang earlier. some sick stuff. made a beat out of one of the songs earlier.

i like to find stuff to sample.

just Acid Pro. i need to get more stuff to actually be able to make bass and stuff. because as of right now i keep the bass as its cut in the songs or i gotta cut up the bass saperately.

the coup - underground rap

arthur lee land - local jam band guy from boulder

reel big fish

rose hill drive- from bouldr

recently, 2 artists have really been playing a lot on my computer:

-LCD Soundsystem, some kickass electro

-Will Oldham aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy, beautiful acoustic songs and lyrics.

Just started listening to G Funk, Chali 2na, and People under the Stairs. All pretty decent hip hop, muchh better than any of that mainstream bullshit.

not a big fan of PE I gotta say, as much a fan as I was of flava flave on surreal life... lately i've been listenin to ratatat a lot. ratatat (self entitled) and remixes volume 1 and 2 are all dope albums.

I've been opening up to some emo-ish shit and some electronic-indie kind of stuff thats actually pretty sick. Some bands I've been listening to are bright eyes, the honorary title, the early november, headphones, hot chip, etc...

I've been getting into 60's soul/r&b/funk lately. Stuff like James brown, Wilson Pickett, Martha Reeves, and some random people like that.

well im glad you asked, planning an estate for your family, while seeming confusing. Is actually quite simple. get at a brother, we can sit down and construct you a solid plan.

Since most life insurance companies policies have a 2 year suicide clause, I suggest you wait the full 2 years before blowing your brains out with this musical masterpiece!

Xavier Rudd.....his guitar is soo smooth, and just goes soo well with his lyrics. Maybe a little folky for some people, but its good for me.

Hilltop hoods

Jay Spectre

first Lost Prophets cd

and the new Incubus tracks

what are your rates? i really need to get this thing rolling if im going to go all out in 2 years. thanks!!

El mighty Skull

Have a Nice Coma

Sweatshop Union

Zion

The Roots

Masta Ace

Are all stuff i discovered these past few months
