What are your parents views on hip-hop/rap music?

Like said above skiing and hip-hop are my life. Currently I'm 14 (bring the hate) but have liked rap since I was about 10. That being said when I was 10 it was mosy weezy, drake, rick ross, you get it, but i mean ive always had a thing for it. i can proudly and truthfully say that i like rap, not because of the image that comes with it, or being cool, but because its me. the way you can take words and rearrange them, change the stress of words, and just messing with them in a unique way perplexes me.

As for my parents my dad couldnt care less. Some songs he actually enjoys. My mom dislikes it and if Im with her in the car or whatever will make me turn it off if there is swearing. She doesnt keep me from listening to it when Im alone thankfully.

If anyone wants a song to listen to check out Dirt Off You Shoulder by Jay-z. Most of you will have heard it but if you havent get on it. I've been in love with it lately. Also, one more song to take a look at-Beef by Mos Def

My parents give me funny looks when they hear my music fortanly they tolerate it. My mom listens to the shit on the radio

My mom doesnt like the swearing but honestly it not like i dont hear it 100 times a day anyways. I acctualy think the age with the foulest mouth is like beginning of middle school because they want to rebel and be cool.

You really need to Look deeper into jay-z and mos def if you think those are there best songs.

I know, I know. I've always liked Jay-z but that was most of his newer stuff which doesn't even compare to the stuff before 2003. As far as Mos Def goes, I just started really diggin his music about a week ago and haven't had ANY spare time lately.

so my moms all like "what do you want for your birthday?" and im like ill make a list so i make a list of like 4 or 5 things and ones a wu tang shirt and my moms all like whats a wu tang and i said theyre a hip hop group and shes like oh let me listen to a wu tang song so i can tell if its appropriate or not so she looks up "wu tang" on da youtube and listens to wu tang aint nothin to fuck with and shes like i dont know if this is appropriate but whatever and im like yo mom you da best

I'm a parent and i play all sorts of music for my kids and they will listen to hip hop a lot, nothing like driving to some beasty (Bless MCA) My dad raised me on good rock Like Zeppelin, Springsteen, deep purple Hendrix, the police. I personally like hip hop a lot, especially if the artist has a political and interesting point of view. I'm a teacher and have social study. I used hiphop as a theme in some lessons on black culture and the stride for equality in the modern US. And used Scandinavian rappers as a source to Scandinavian youth culture. But my main music is rock - i like the fusion stuff like Rage A.T Machine. If the lyrics is just about how much dough you spend on pus... and weed I cant relate.
