What are your parents' views on hip-hop/rap music? My mom thinks that all of it is about money, sex, and drugs, which can be justified by the shit the pump through the airwaves on the radio (all shitty rap is on the radio imo). My dad doesn't like it, but doesn't stop me from listening to it.

I personally love it, despite being white... but race and ethnicity shouldn't stop someone from enjoying their preferred music, in my opinion. My dream job is to be a tour photographer and videographer for a well-known artist or group, so I listen to rap quite a bit.

How do your parents feel?

P.S. if you want good hip-hop, listen to old-school rap or rappers that aren't that well known.. just my .02

My dad banned my from listening to 50 Cent when I was 12. I did it anyway /badass. But honestly, hip-hop is the second love of my life after skiing, and I would not be myself without it. My parents dislike most of it, but my dad likes Timbuktu (swedish rapper). Mom doesn't really listen to music.

^Also, I think it's actually impossible to not like A Tribe Called Quest.

dude my dad hates rap so much, but my mom is chill with some of it. i just try to keep it to my self but if my parents for what ever reason want it loud so they can "listen" to it i try to keep 50 cent and tyga off the play list. i dont understand why parents are so anti-rap, but watever, just my 2 cents

i play talib kweli and mos def and shit like that in the car with my parents. All positive messages and "empowering" music yet my parents still hate it. Fuckin old white people

My mom likes the music, but doesn't like the messages of a lot of it. If the lyrics have some meaning she will listen to it and put up with the language.

My dad will not listen to it. That's OK though because we both prefer country music anyways.

sometimes when im in the car with my dad i'll blast some OF just to make the other stuff seem not as bad. I dont think either of my parents like it but that doesn't matter, im not 12 anymore.

My mom really hates it, but has only heard like 2 songs ( eminem shake that, being one of them) My dads ok with what I listen too, K'naan, and stuff like that.

My dad isn't the biggest fan. He claims it's all about disrespecting women, drugs, and gangs (Some is, yes.), but then again, just about every classic rock artist has fucked with drugs and been a womanizer. Rap is to them what rock was to their parents.

Not at all. A lot of the popular shit, yes, but not if you really explore and shit to find rap that has meaning behind it.

my dad likes all the old rap, i even found a box of cassettes with like nwa and dre in it, and he pretends to like new rap to be cool, and my mom thinks anything i play sucks no matter what it is

My father loves jazz and soul music. Consequently, real hip hop (most sampling from the two previous genre) is all good stuff to his ears even though he can't understand a word of what the MC's spittin. I wish he'd get away from french.

Oh and my parents hate rap for the most part but they don't care that I listen to it because their parents hated the music they listed to also. Thats what they told me anyway.

....I really enjoy early 90's stuff, death row records shit, the chronic, old bone thugs, etc....

anything that's considered hip hop/rap after 2005 really is terrible imo.

Typically: "Rap is crap"

I've gotten my dad to listen to and enjoy some hip hop/rap...keyword "some."

My dad's under the impression that every rapper was/is in jail at some point. I think it's because they're black but he won't admit it.

my dad hates the current general rap, but he loves the old stuff thats considered hip hop technically. Run dmc, beastie boys, and a tribe called quest. thats it really.
