What are the first steps twords becoming a cat driver

you have to atleast be 18...go to your local mountain and ask to do some ride alongs with the cat drivers... apply for a job and they'll train you to do the basics if you are interested enough. It's all about hands on training.

for park... going to cutters camp could be a start. it is pretty expensive I hear...$2500+ i believe.

It depends on the mountain. The best way though is to ride along with someone(most like having someone to talk to)

i would just fill out applications on-line..... i know a bunch of people who got jobs as cat drivers in mammoth without any experience whatsoever. i know there it helps to make snow preseason, as the bosses for snowmaking are the supervisors on cat crew

step one... work for a hill.

step two... when you get hired tell them you would like to one day drive cat, and ask what you have to do.

step three... work your ass off.

or...

know a guy that drives cat, buy him tons of beer and tell him to teach you how to push.

This is my seccond year grooming and currently at the canyons...I was lucky and got to do a intenship for my first year(I had no heavy equipment experience). I would say the easyest way to become a groomer is to work for a large area that needs many operators (typicaly they have a high turnover rate). They might want you to make snow for a year or two which would suck though...anyone know if there is a groomers cult...

Would your SROAM course help at all?

It would probably just get you in there to begin with i guess..

ahaha. this reminds me of this time I was at a barmitzvah and I guess we were all 13 and we wanted more shirley temples but we didn't realize it was vodka we were refilling with and then this guy is like where'd you get those drinks son? yeah.. good story.

yeah fair call..either way it sounds like a really useful course to do in order to get into the management side of the industry.

There are people that I know (In Australia) that are considering heading over there to do the course; it seems to have quite a solid int'l reputation.
