so i got a pair of atomic punx for christmas, they are 173cm and im like 5'11", they are a bit longer than what would be ideal, but thats the only size they had left so i just went with em.
wow, maybe i just got confused, and i have never snowbladed in my life, its just the guys at the shop were all like this ski will be to long for you... blah, blah...
im 6'0 and riding 182's.
front flips are pretty much outta the question. switchups on rails require serious effort especially blindside on like a downrail. shit is way too long. other than that i find the extra length gives me more momentum and power throwing spins and shit and backies are no problem. just rails and fronts are trouble with the long skis.
i just rode my 185 amplid C7's for the first time today (5' 10'') and so far i'm likin em.. It felt like i needed a little more effort (even though i probably didn't) to get on rails and boxes, but it just felt like that because the long length was just a new feeling... so far likin em much more than my shorter skis
those will probably be really maneuverable for you i would've gotten a longer ski personally i ride a 174 Rossi S4 and i am a little over 5 7 and they are perfect for me
I'm 5'9" and ride center mounted 176s. They will be a good fit for you. Should be stable on jumps and not too heavy or big for throwing around on rails.
186 bibbys are wonderful for me too but im a lil under six feet. They are just the sickest skis. bigger skis make you comfortable going bigger cause they are more solid on landings and arent as squirrelly(sp)
Well, to answer your question, longer skis are heavier and harder to control. If you are a strong skiier, you can handle a longer ski because you have the clout to handle that extra weight.
I do agree however, that in your case the skis are a good length, my friend is 5'11" and he rides 189s just fine.
5'6" i have 169 walls, and am so glad i didnt go any shorter. most shop techs will say they are too long because they are thinking of mounting them at the common recommended line. im always told that i will have trouble with my skis because they are as tall or taller than me whenever i buy new ones. just ignore them. they dont know your style of riding.
i'm 170cm/5ft7
and rock on 183s anything shorter just feels unstable and crappy. I went back on my 170 armadas last season for a day after 2 months of riding 183s.. and i hated it haha.
gues its personal preference.
Traditional Ski techs will tell you to get a shorter ski then many people will use only becuase the traditional mounting location. But with Centermounted skis you have less tip then a traditional mounted ski so you dont feel the extra length. Im 5'8 and love my 178 Liberitys!
Hey fellas. I have to opportunity to trade my anthems 161 for some 171 invaders... I know its the same ski, but Im worried how the invader (being alot narrower) will perform in the colorado weather. Mostly im in the park, but I do lap the bowls from time to time. So longer invaders or stick with my shorter anthems?
Im 5ft 7 riding 172 Antidgomas. Maybe a tiny little bit long as i like messing around on short skis but it defo gives me that extra support when im going fast.I think next year when the new AD'd get released i will get 166cm instead.
Yeah, i also thought that longer skis might be harder to do tricks with, I had 161s thrusters, but then got some new Ar6s at 176, and they are perfect. I love the length. So much better, and im 6 ft, so 173 is perfect for you.
