What are some good bindings?

Liked the attacks for the price but heard they had a release problem

Liked the pivots but disliked the price?

Are griffons good bindings for me? Any other suggestions?

Pivots and STH2's are the best on the market atm.

I have no experience with attacks, but have friends that use them and like them.

Used all kinds of Markers over the years... They're ok, and I do like that they finally added a sliding afd to their Jester pro, but all of my non touring bindings are Pivot 18's and I intend to keep it that way.

IMO find some STH2 13's or Pivot 14's.
 
you pretty much got it. pivots are sick but expensive, attacks are lighter and cheaper and still super dope/great reputation. markers i personally hate but i don't speak for the people, many like them. salomon STHs also have a great reputation
 
I've got a pair of Griffons 13 ID 2 years ago and after around 25-30 days on them now, still work just fine with no issues.

Got them for like 165$ brand new, so if you can cop a cheap pair don't hesitate to do so.
 
Obvi can’t speak for everyone but I don’t know anyone who actually likes marker bindings, they are very heavy and klunky. I love my attack 13s. Pivots are very nice. Sth2s are very nice. Whatever one of those 3 you can get for the cheapest I’d go for.
 
pivot 18 and sth2.

ive ridden a couple markers, sth2, and pivot 14/18.

pivot 14s are good, but the metal toe of the 18s keep my boot connected to the ski better and is more durable. and i dont hear the plastic creaking like i do the 14s.

attacks are good bang for your buck, but have heard they dont have the smoothest release out of the heel.

if youre on a budget ATTACKS

if you want durability and adjustability STH2

if you want beef and durability PIVOT 18

obviously theres more to it than that, but this thread has been created thousands of times. other good info if you search
 
I've had attacks, and know plenty that people that have as well but lately at work I've been mounting and testing some and man they test like garbage. Attack 11s test so all over the board I wouldn't even feel safe on them, and 13s aren't very consistent either. Torque test a pair of any pivots, 12s 18s whatever, they test exactly the same in every direction every single time. Pivots are the wave, and Tyrolia has been on some wack shit lately it seems like.

My username on this site literally used to be "FKS_HEEL_PIECE" and my icon was a dildo... That said, markers hurt way more. I sit tuck a lot, and have found pivots are way more comfortable to sit on for extended flat sections than markers.

Marker jesters weigh 1050g and STH 13's weigh 1137

Markers use more plastic. Never really understood the hate from newschoolers against markers. I have sth16's and Jesters and I feel like they're equal. The heel "click" is more satisfying on sth's.

You only need to 'marker out' once to feel the hate.

I don't think they're terrible but for the price, pivots/sth are better. For the design, attack's are much cheaper and lower to the ski. That puts them 4th out of the top 4 bindings on the market.

Can we just sticky this labeled "Answers to all Marker related binding questions" at the top of geartalk?

Markers aren't terrible, with the exception of the squires, if they came on a used pair of skis you picked up or nib for $80 they're perfectly fine. There simply are no compelling reasons to choose them over the other bindings on the market today.

I have marksman, so those breaks are too skinny, also very ugly green for red and blue skis. Does AT make it any worse? https://www.levelninesports.com/fischer-attack2-13-at-ski-bindings-2020 these have the right size breaks and Im trying to get these mounted to ski soon over winterbreak.

They test like garbage because they use a super old twin cam heel design. Literally one of those worst releases from a high end binding on the market right now. That technology is so old.

But some on here go gaga over em since they’re light and cheap.

The AT is heavier, has a significantly higher stack height and is really only useful if you're using GripWalk, WTR, Walk soles or other boots with ISO 9523 (not positive that's the correct number) DIN soles.

Marker Griffons:

Skis fine but I had a “phantom step in” issue where everything felt fine clicking in, but kept ejecting on the first turn. This happened prob 3 times in a row and though its never happened again, don’t think I’ll be mounting any more markers in the future. I think the snow was just real sticky that day (Whistler) that I literally had to scrape off every last bit of snow off my soles.

Attack 13:

Definitely prefer it over Griffons. No issues so far, easier step in and the part I like most is the low stack height. Def makes me want to try pivots next.

I'm sure pivot 12s will do the trick if you're not a heavy person. I had a pair a few years ago and had to warranty them, but that was a manufacturer's defect, wasn't a durability thing.. Ended up upgrading to 14s instead, solid binding thus far

As mentioned above, I think the Attack 13s are the best bang for your buck

The heel-piece doesn't seem any different than the STH and people love those.

Is there a binding technology that isn't a million years old by now though? (other than stuff like the shift)

I've been on tyrolia 15s and 18s for the past few years and always have trusted them. I will admit that I have bought them because they can always be found for cheap tho. Just got the attack 16 and the new toepeice does seem a little cheaper than the old aero toe.

I had pivots for a while and appreciate the turntable heel design, but couldn't stand the step in feel and getting in them in powder sucked. That could be because I was a 130 lb shrimp when I was riding them.
