What are qualities of a good coach

What qualities do your coaches have that you admire. Add stories if possible.

not a pedophile...my youth soccer coach/little league baseball ump was arrested for getting down with some little children a few years back.

In 6th grade this coach use to make us all tackle and dog pile on him during practice. He would also make us stand in a circle with him in the middle and he would throw balls at us- we weren't allowed to cover our member and the girls weren't allowed to cover their chests, guess where he would allways go with the call???-didn't think much of it all back than...
 
gotta be strict and respected, but at the same time not a total douche. they also need to get pissed occasionally when the time calls for it, but at the same time when you do something right the coach needs to be right there to be the first one to pick you up. and of course being knowledgeable about whatever sport they are coaching. I find the best coaches i have ever had generally played the sport, and were very good at the sport as well (my old high school baseball coach got drafted into the NHL, then got hurt and went to a illinois community college for baseball, got drafted by the royals as a pitcher, hurt his shoulder and his sports career was over, he taught himself to throw left handed for batting practice though. dudes a baller)
 


I honestly would prefer a coach like this over one that just holds my hand and tries to baby me the whole time.

Luckily, all the coaches I have had, while not being this, well... rude, do try to push you in whatever way they can.
 
throws waterbottles.

i had a hockey coach that wouldnt say a word, he would just grab a waterbottle and highheat it at whatever.

it was fuckin awesome.

we went through alot of waterbottles that winter.
 
I had a crazy lacrosse coach once who people claimed was a coke head (apparently it was a pretty commonly held belief) and used to flip out all the time.

One time I had an open man in the crease that, in the pressure of the situation, I failed to see, and could have probably gotten a sweet assist. I played x-attack and was under pressure behind the goal so I just went around and tried to score myself.

Anyway he called me off the field and started freaking out like "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT, HOW COULD YOU MISS THE OPEN MAN, THAT WOULD HAVE TIED THE GAME! YOU FUCKING IDIOT!" I'm not sure exactly what he said but it was along these lines. Anyways I just kind of feebly muttered "I'm sorry coach..." and he paced up and down the sidelines kicking shit saying "I'm sorry too, I'm sorry too, I'm sorry too." It just got louder and louder and it was real crazy because he was kind of just saying it to himself with his head down until he was screaming it.

Our other coach had a brain injury and couldn't remember anything or anyones names. One time on the bus he just started calling people out being like. "YOU, I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID BUT I DIDN'T LIKE IT"

 
comfy seats that tilt back, on-board toilet, plenty of leg room and a driver who doesn't mind if shit gets a bit crazy I reckon will do it

Before anyone turns this into a fight, I hate the man in the first post, and am not defending that sick man.

But you ever heard of a witch hunt? This was the definition of one.

Knew the man personally, and his philanthropy throughout his life will never be forgotten. Developing young men and an entire town around him, we are who we are in State College because of him. He was the greatest man I ever knew, my role model.

Don't say it was a witch hunt and believe the 20 seconds of ESPN you watched.

I don't want to see any negative responses about this man UNLESS you actually watched it, and my guess will be, you won't since its 30 minutes, and will tell you the exact opposite of your opinions.

being completely insane but recognizing his insanity to the point where it can be properly harnessed into motivation, smart training plans, humor, and a crazy desire to literally win every single thing possible
