DISCLAIMER: this is analysis, not a some sick hope for disaster.

suspend ethics and morality and i think we can all agree that the terrorists were fully satisfied with their attacks on 9/11. to be honest, i don't think things could have gone any more perfect for them. we rallied rather quickly thanks to w's speech writers and a lot of american flags, but for the most part, 9/11 instilled a sense of sheer terror. not only that, but there continues to be a stagnance of foul tasting paranoia.

trust me, there will be more attempts, none of us can deny that - if you do then you are a fool. the question is, what will be the next objective for destiny seeking terrorists? i think the phsyical and very tangible (don't forget representative) twin towers were a way of establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. the problem is they didn't realize that it isn't our buildings and our strong metropolises that we're trying to safeguard, its our lives. terrorists see america as a physical establishment, something that can be touched. they want to destroy what is single handedly taking over the world - they see america as disease and they have to find the key to breaking it down. our establishment can be forced to collapse in two ways: destroy the system or destroy the people. they are interchangable and bianary, destroy one and the other goes down. the question is, do we know which of these it is that terrorists are trying to destroy?

if the primary goal is to destroy the backbone of america, shouldn't the road taken be the most efficient. so which one is it?

i ask this because it is important in determining the future targets. if its the system then the object will be to destroy the stock market or the trade ports, energy sources and supply lines, banks, social supports, federal processes, transportation, etc.

or

you blow up superbowl stadiums, time square, central park summer concert crowds, marthon starting lines, college graduations, 4th of july fireworks celebrations, etc

you have to question the intentions and motives of terrorists. is it efficiency? or is it intentional cruelty?

if the terrorists want american people to suffer, then the objective is to kill as many people as possible. the imminence of terrorist threat finds its personal attack in the infectious fear of it reaching the individual. forget monuments as the architectural heart and soul, the goal is to show the people that they can be reached.

i think that maybe terrorist may realize that the latter is more effective, regardless or their intentions. you hit the people and you destroy their sense of community, its what rulers have done repeatedly for eons, just check the history books.

But seriously, I agree. Since they are trying to attack the American way of life, large groups of people would be the target. Structures can be rebuilt.

You know even though that was so easy to understand im gonna be the only 12 year old to get it.But anyway yeah i agree with whoever is up above me buildings can be rebuilt sure some people will be afraid to go to the super bowl but some won't because they love it. i think terrorists will try to destroy maybe the innagruation for the new or repeating president to kinda show that Bush did not scare them or anything of the sort. but thats just me.

i refuse to think about it.

1. if i die, i will probably be quick and painless if future events follow in the same ways

2. the chances i will be a target of an attack is pretty slim

3. we're all in it for ourselves, the deep rooted reason for our fear is not about compassion for our fellow americans, or human beings (because in the wake of any such event we will immediately dispatch anyone we suspect to have a connection with the event, with plenty of people happy that said miserable people were removed from the earth) its a fear that we, ourselves, will actually die.

4. i figure to some extenet its like bullies in grade-school, if you pay them no attention, they wont get a reaction, and theyll quit... just to an extreme. so really, i think we should just laugh at them. make terrorist reality tv, make a terrorist theme park, generally destroy any credibility they have... that or just ignore them.

I agree that a marathon could be considered a target due to the number of people, the part that I found ironic is that people would come there to run, and then they would end up running for a different reason.

it all depends...Terrorism usually has 'instilling fear/terror into people' as its goal. It therefore follows that targetting schools, churches, and other places where one should be safe would be a 'good idea' for terrorists.

The world trade center was one thing, but think of how afraid people got when homegrown terrorists rode around sniping people in a beat up car...

that was a kind of disturbing way to start a thread, i agree with crytal in that if we keep worrying about whats going to happen next, then the terrorists have already won. if we just go on living our normal lives like before 9/11, granted with a bit tighter security, life will go back to normal. the terrorists want you to be afraid, if you're not, they'll eventually give up.

besides, who wants to sit here thinking about ways in which terrorists could strike us? leave that to national security advisors, whether or not they know what they're doing, id rather not be thinking about it all day

 
Idunno guys, trust me, I hate to think about it, but its hard not to. These guys WILL NOT give up. Unless America completely changes from what it is now which is the reason terrorist attacks occur in the first place, America will always be an enemy to terrorists. We are hated all around the world, you can't deny that, everyone knows that our country alone consumes 1/4 of the earth's resources, and that obviously pisses a lot of people off. Terrorists will no doubt strike again. Personally, I think they will strike at targets that hurt us financially, because that is what they're attempting to do, to bring America to a less powerful level. So what do we do when our government is so corrupted with rich people getting richer and not worrying about anything but that? Its sad that it's come to this.

why is it so hard not to think about? do you live in that high profile an area that you feel your life will be ended by terrorists, that you will be made a martyr for their cause or somethign? i mean seriously, its not going to happen, and if it does... thats that, if youre christian, i dont think youll be going to hell, if youre not, well, change of plans. terrorism is not a part of our lives, it is not apparent in everyday western society. violence does not erupt on the streets at regular intervals. gunfire doesnt empty most american neighborhoods. bombs arent going off, planes arent crashing, diseases arent spreading. you have nothing to worry about. and i fyou still feel the need to worry, come to terms with death.

crystal i completely understand what you are saying, but to tell an american that it is a waste of time to think about terrorist attacks, is to tell an airline passenger to not think about plane crashes. both are rare as fuck, but the fear is imminent - both deliver leathal blows of fear. both immediatly sending the sense of complete and total loss of control.

i think about it because it mystifies me, i think about it because my mind will always fall to the dark side of things, if i didn't i'd be helping blind kids instead.

I like you positive attitude about this Crystal..., but I disagree with many of your arguments. We can't treat them like the bullies in schoool, one bullies just wanted to push piopole around and have power. Terrorists want to destroy America. These terrorists will not stop till we capture/kill tem all. They are promised to go to heaven and recieve virgins. If someone were promised that, do you think they would stop at anything? Yes, it's stupid to worry about terrorism, but yoou can be concerned about it.

They're are many Al Queada terrorist cells in the US right now(in the hundreds or thousands, i just know it's a lot). There are nuclear devices that were stolen from Russia, from the cold war. They fit in suit cases. Over the past few years, 1/2 of the illegal aliens captured on the borders of texas and Arizona were middle eastern.

Terrorists may try to do many things. Look what theyt did in Spain. They coukld do that to our elections too.

Hell, I'm gonna fly to Detroit on September 11 to go see my sister play soccer, and I'm not worried at all about it.

Atlanta is more funerable than many other cities/places in the US. We have the CDC, which could kill many people if it was hit.

 
yea terrorists can say they are going to attack and still get alot of there job done just by doning that. there goal is to try to scare us and keep us from going about our daily lives. just do stuff normally and hope that everything stays cool.

The evil doers (The ambiguous name that bush threw on to them) are going to infiltrate the cdc (center for disease control) in Atlanta and nab smallpox. (Since the Bush Admin has cut funding to the heath and human services section of our gov, they have had to make cuts of there own i.e.: security.) Infect themselves and have the germ do the rest. It will feast on Americans weak immune system and wreak utter mayhem.
