What are boxes made of?

hey dude, before people jump all over you, use the search bar, there are a ton of threads about this. Just wanted to warn you.

not true, for the majority. PVC is too soft and chips easy. Almost all boxs are made out of Lexan, its like 100x stronger then glass or something. Some are made with HDPE, high density polyethelyne. almost none are made from pvc, too soft, easy to chip/crack

oh, well thats what we used whenever we build stuff

i always look at various boxes i hit and it looked the same so i dunno

but yea i know people use lots of different materials

boxes are made of mostly wood or metal, and the top is made of tons of tiny search bars melted together, like i'm talking tons, so if you try to make a box make sure you use SEARCH BAR, and alot of it.

Most boxes are made of HDPE, or high-density polyethylene. Planet Snow uses it for their top sheets. It slides very easily, is more flexible than PVC, and doesn't break too easily, although wide sheets of it (for example, those covering a butter box) can crack and even shatter if hit hard enough. Thats why I always yell at people who 'stomp' onto a box. You could break the HDPE very easily. So dont stomp on the box, stomp your landing...

boxes at mountains are made from hdpe or lexan with some sort of metalcoping

you can buy those two at usplatic.com

but if you just want to build a box for your back yard pvc is alot cheeper and should hold up alright you may just have to replace it like once a year. all depends on how much you sesh it though

I got some, its called puck board beacause its what they use around hockey rink boards. for a 4 by 8 sheat its a ridiculous 80$$$$$$$ but i think its woth it

Not always lexan i would say they're mostly HDPE like you thought with either a wooden frame with plywood sides or a metal frame. Professional box builder use special plastic that they develop just for skiing/boarding but it is very similar to HDPE

That's HDPE.

Either that or Lexan, as has been said before. Then you either build the box out of wood or metal, and countersink screws into the sheet so they're below the surface level to mount 'em. Coping is a really good idea though, it's pretty easy to take chunks out of the top sheet if an edge catches the corner of the sheet of plastic.

just wondering...is it the same stuff they make hockey rink boards out of? cause my friend got a ton of that stuff to make a box.
