What age are most of you and why do we all love skiing so much?

I’m 29 now and used to ski a lot before I turned 20 and then I stopped for almost 7 years. In the last years after I started again I realized that I feel so damn free on skis that it’s like the ultimate confidence and dopamine boost.

I go skiing alone now as well when my girl or friends can’t and I absolute love to just get in the zone and hit the park trying new tricks. Right now I’m hooked on rails and I’m kind of panicking that it’s not to long left of the season ?

16 i love skiing because its fun and feels sick

i guess i can't really put my finger on why but theres not really any feeling like it?

you know what i mean but i can never really explain it to my friends who don't ski

like a good hard carve, a floaty jump, a greased rail?

euphoria

28...still ski because it reminds me of the good old days, the rare few times I'm able to link up with og homies and just bool shows how impactful it has been in holding onto friendships for sure

I ain’t tellin y’all my age but I’m in high school and it just feels great to really be good at something, and knowing you have every opportunity to learn more. it’s also nice that it can be social if you want to but it can also be completely solitary. And no one can see how you really look either so you can just ski without being self conscious, at least for me

other best part the social aspect of skiing

some of my best friends are the ones i met hiking rails with

there's no community like it and

even though the culture has its shit its still one of the best

also i guess 17 for ur age

Skiing is just so freeing. The mountains are beautiful. I liked it from the start which is why I put so much time into it, but at this point, it's also something that I'm pretty good at, and I feel good while doing it. I'm seventeen.

15 and it’s the freedom, feeling, and social parts of it. You have the ability to express yourself in any way and there’s just an inexplicable feeling to it. Additionally I have met some of my best friends through it . It’s just spiritual and perfect.

24 and for me theres no better feeling than getting into the flow state. Skiing has so many different ways of achieving this and also just being in nature and the freedom to do whatever you want is awesome as well.

32 and mildly obsessed. Can't stay away. It's my path God has laid out for me. I keep getting resort jobs and just won't quit. I bleed this. It's burned into my soul. I workout every day, don't drink and dedicate my life to continued shred.

Call me insane. Call me mad. But in a world of chaos and horror. Skiing is what makes sense.

30 now. Fell in and out of love here and there. Especially after Covid once I moved back to the UK and only skied maybe 10 days in 3 years.

Getting back into it now, but I did realise a couple of months ago that I definitely peaked in 2018/19 season and don't think I'll ski at that level ever again, due to multiple reasons, which kinda bums me out!

23 it’s the perfect sport because you got 2 sticks attached to your feet and just move your body to control where you’re going and no handlebars or anything limiting you

so i can ski fast and eat ass although once you get a girlfriend, you really have to ration just how much ass your eating because either she'll gain it back with a good block of cheese, or she'll lose it. Skiing is freeing although it also offers challenges that relate in my life elsewhere like tackling anxiety, or just up in the mountains two plankin while drinking with the homies just having a good time. It does however hinder my winter landscape photography endeavors as I'm spending a lot of winter skiing instead. maybe that's the incentive to do more backcountry trips.

I'm either older or younger than you. my cheese is always fresh.

I'm 37 now, ski'd my whole life, it's just fun as shit and an escape from day to day life, skiing is weirdly zen.

Don't thrown many tricks anymore as I'm carrying a whole bag of injuries from my park days, but still love ripping around the mountain and launching shifties off everything, keep telling myself I'll throw some spins and flips next time I ski, but I'm having too much fun cruising to risk blowing myself up again.

i'm a _ year old (young teen) And I love it because nothing feels better than throwing something, eating it, and getting up again and then landing it

Im 19 and I grew up in a spot where the closest spot was a local hill like an hour and 45 min drive away. I also did track for the whole school year every year in high school so I didn’t rly get to go a ton every winter which was torture bc I’ve been skiing since I was 3 and it’s my favorite thing to do. Finally got to college tho and I’m putting up so many more days, absolutely love the freedom and the feeling it gives. Helps me unwind and forget abt life for a bit. Pure euphoria

Im 16 too and none of my friends ski. Its so hard to tell them what its like. Best feeling in the world.

45. I still get super stoked about skiing with my boys but the group of core "boys" has diminshed alot, down til about 3 or 4 and the last ten years has been getting my own kids now 8 and 10 up to speed on staying with me. Now that they are finally mostly self sufficient and my wife loves skiing too its even better then it ever was. I still love progressing, feel like im still getting better and Im already the best skier on the mtn

17 I genuinely don't know why, but everything about it I love. everything from hiking rails trying to get one trick, to hot laps with the boys. some of my best friends I have met skiing. the best conversations come from stacked chairlift rides. And that feeling when you take your boots off after a long ass day. finally landing that one trick and everyone is mad hyped for you. teaching your brother how to do tricks. thanks, Mom/dad for forcing me to ski.

I just turned 15 a couple weeks ago. I have been skiing since i was baby and it has a been a passion since forever. My dad is one of the greatest skiers i know, If it werent for him id probably be stuck doing something stupid like basketball or some shit. The community of skiing is so strong i live in squaw valley but used to live in a small tweaker town like 2 hours from the closest resort. Within the first month of moving to tahoe i made some of my best friends to this day. everyone was friends skied together it didnt matter how good you were some guys are doing dubs and cork sevens and others are just learning how to flip and spin. Filming is another passion skiing has given me ive been filming since this season and its something that i have fallen in love with. Being able to show the world that even if these kids arent sponsored or winning those stupid IFSA comps they still fucking shred. Everyone is loved and watched over in the skiing community no matter how old or young if your the best or worst we are all together. Tell your homies you love them.

24, Skied more every season since starting college hopefully that stays true. I do it for the flow state and trips with friends make for some of the happiest moments in my life the last couple of seasons.

I'm 40, been skiing all my life. Got my first slalom twintips in 2019 :)

Before that I had a long break away from skiing.

Insane fact: I had the O.G Dynastar Troublemakers with tele bindings back in 2006. Not proud of it, and thinking back it's sad to think of all the progression I missed out on tumbling down slopey slopes on those shitious bindings.

Skiing is just natural to me and I feel at home on 2 sticks. Been doing it for many years and it has been enjoyable watching the trends and fashions change along with seeing them come back around. It is something my mom introduced to me at a very young age and I have passed it on to my kids similar to others here. Skiing is awesome! Upper 40's for reference.

I'm 29. I've been skiing consistently since I was 18, but my first day on the slopes was at age 8 at Brighton.

Life is one long day on the slopes if you think about it. You pick yourself up, you work on getting improving, you appreciate the thrills yet respect the limitations and setbacks presented to you. It's not only what you do when you ski, it's your comebacks after you take a risk and fail. It's bold and irreverent. It's treating 12'000 foot peaks covered in ice and snow as your playground while putting life itself on the line for enjoyment. The mountain is your canvass and each side hit, rail, lip, every line you can imagine are brush strokes to paint a picture and the picture is a representation of who you are.

i’m 16, and one of the things that i have noticed is that i never understood how some of my friends could spend all of their time watching baseball games or basketball highlights and etc. Then i realized that i literally do the same thing just with skiing. it is just the love for a sport and the desire to get better. and i think that i love skiing specifically because it is such a good physical feeling. you use your entire body and you get to feel strong and free

Feel that. I have a few friends that ski but they are not even closely into it as much as I am. Their loss ofc

I can't believe I'm one of the oldest members of NS, I have been on and off of this site for the last 15-20 years I think. I can't imagine when the day comes and I cant ski anymore. Looking back i'm so glad that I included my wife in skiing, TBH it was a bit of a drag when I had to wait for her at the beginning. Some of my friends purposely kept their wives out of skiing and I think they regret it. It's nice when the whole family is stoked to ski. I still feel 35, I still ski moguls alot when they're good and lap the park on spring days. Unfortunately I still live a good 2hrs from any real mountains so day trips are still on the menu but who knows maybe some day Ill retire somewhere up north.

21, this season got my 14 year old stoke back that I have been yearning for. Went through a couple years of being really bummed out that I was not as good as I wanted to be, then a couple years of not even wanting to ski cause of life shit. Now I am back and i am glad it happened while i'm still relatively young lol.

Funny how you get way better at skiing when you stop caring as much about getting clips or skiing like your favorite pro lol

51, shifted to skiing after 25 or so years of boarding here in CO. Really enjoy it and the challenges to progress and keep up with 10/7 year old daughters. They can shred. Wish I made the change earlier, but have goals to be one of the old 80 plus year olds still getting after and currently feel like everything besides the park is in play as I progress.
