Western Washington

I am a high school senior admitted to Western Washington with in-state tuition so I will likely attend. Looking to study computer science and ski Baker a lot. Ive done some searchbarring but I'm wondering if any current students go there and like it or have anything to say about it. It would be cool to find like minded people to shred with. Other schools I'm considering are UBC, UW, and Westminster. Skiing is not my primary reason for choosing a school but its definitely a factor. Thanks

Well your searchbar skills are pretty weak, because there are lots of threads with all you need to know.

In the spirit of washington regionals I will give you a summar- just kidding go fuck yourself~

UW is definitely a better academic school. No doubt about that. But the social scene isn't the greatest compared to Bham.

I'm just finishing up my freshman year at wwu living on campus in the ridge. The ski scene here in bham is different than anything i've ever been around. Everyone is beyond friendly and stoked on the shred. If you're tryna rage, live in gamma. If you like your books, live on north campus.

Bump. I'm touring tomorrow, is there anything interesting that I should know that the tour won't tell me?

UW is definitely less of an "open" vibe for social life due to lots of international students and greek system take over. It's a big university, but there are a good amount of us skiers here, and it's a good time. If you're looking more for a laid back social kind of college lifestyle hit up western, otherwise UW for the books. If you're serious about CS then you should definitely come here to UW. I'm in the program now and it's a top ranked program, but also very challenging.

I got some homies in gamma- do you know will, stevie, jake, jackson and the rest of that suite?

im going to be freshman there next year, i spent the last year traveling and going to school in norway. i wont live in the dorms, iv spent most of my life in bham and if you have any specific questions please feel free to message me. epic skiing/biking/hiking/climbing/surfing/kayaking whatever the fuck you feel like. definitely let me know if you wanna shred or bike over the summer. got lots of rad homies if you wanna meet people.

Western is a great school! To sum it up~ I find the progressive positive thinkers and granola kids amusing and fun to be around (And there's a lot of them!). You have the option of really pushing your studies to get the most out of your education, or in the contrary, finding an easy route. I like the city of Bellingham a lot more than Seattle primarily because how friendly everyone is and how much more close knit you may find it to be. I'd also recommend UBC as well (Although the cost may be very steep if you don't have citizenship!), Canadians are great people and you have Grouse Mt. as well as Whistler just in your backyard. I don't know too much about Westminster to have any input. All things considered, don't act like it's the most important decision of your life, be grateful that you've the resources enabling you to make this decision!
