west- yes, it could be up to 2 hours, vancouver traffic can be bad sometimes! but once you get up into north vancouver (across the bridge from downtown) the traffic usually isnt that bad, it still can be, but usually not- then its a straight shot up the highway to whistle, probably an hour to 1.5 hours once you get out of the city- the drive is really scenic though, and yes, u of bc is cheap, especially if you're coming from the states.

UBC is a great school, or so i've heard. That's where I'm looking to go, either that or University of Victoria...

A snowflake never blames itself for the avalanche...

Sierra nevada college is in tahoe. Doesn't get better than that. As for the school itself I know little of it.

www.sierranevada.edu

I hear UC DAVIS (if you can get into it) is a great place to be if you want to ski and still want to attend a nice college

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

i looked at sierra nev. and it was real expensive.

I go to UCD, but dont expect to do well in college and ski at the same time...its nearly impossible depending on your major....focus on whats important to ya...I suggest getting college done first and then skiing like a mad mofo or skiing first (taking a couple years off to get your life in order) if your really serious about it. College life defenitely puts a fucking dampener on things especially when you have midterms and its snowing outside. :( If I was you I would look into schools up north not in cali...UC schools are fucking nuts and the rest isnt worth it....try Canada or Wash-Oregon.

fuck goin out west man, too exspensive. UVM, chill skiing AND bud....they people are mad cool too. i only have classes 2 days a week, and your real close to soooo many differnt places. but honestly, i think we have enough jersey kids

Your choice is what you choose to be, if your causin no harm, it doesn't bother me. My choice is what I choose to do, and if I'm causin no harm, it shouldn't bother you. If you don't like my fire, then don't come around, cuz I'm gonna burn one down....

Look up Simon Fraser University. Good school, smaller than UBC, about the same price, and it's actually faster(most of the time) to get to Whistler cuz you don't have to go through Vancouver, and have pretty much direct highway access. Plus you can go to school in the summer and fall and ski full time in the winter.

that shit about skiing and school at the same time being a bad idea is wrong. I have classes three days a week and ski four. the lifts close at four giving you plenty of time to study and do homework at night.

Never forget about berekely!!!! it is the shit

Skiing is 2(Sugar Bowl)-3(Heavenly hours away (Squaw and alpine are probably a little over 2), but the ski team owns a cabin up at heavenly, all you have to pay is some dues and you get to use it. plus discounts on lift tickets.

Golf is also year round so I can play golf and ski in the same week, plus hot cali beaches, lots of women, who wouldn't want to got to berkely????

Plus it is one of the top schools in the nation for all of us who are not going to be ski bums forever, awsome engineering program, so you get to ski and get a good job so you can be rich and taking skiing vacations to your chataeu in Fance when you are 50 and falling apart

only one problem, on a 4.0 scale, u gotta have a 3.5, thats not me

me: pepsi twist taste the exact same as normal pepsi.

my friend: no it doesnt , it has a twist.

Come to UBC and rip Whistler with me there aren't enough skiers here damnit!

'Math my boy, is nothing more than the lesbian sister of biology' -Peter Griffin (Family Guy)

you gotta have way over 4.0 to get into berkeley . . . and it's 2 hours away from sugar bowl if you average 90 miles an hour (180+ miles). So plan on more like 2.5-3. Hour and a half from davis at 70 mph.

And at Davis, like at every school, it depends on your major how much skiing you'll get in. If you're mechanical engineering, you're not gonna get to ski as much as a communications major. Simple.

who here goes to UC Boulder, i just got in and very much want to go, sweet town, sweet skiing, am i right, does anyone have feedback? thanks

Are the ski areas around University of British Columbia and simon frasier any good for length of season and park. I know whistler is the best, but it is also kind of far away.

USC is supposedly less than 2hours away from Big Bear & Snow Summit. Real close to the beach too. Hopefully I'll be there next semester.... for grad school. I'm just waiting on aid. Yeah, I'm older than you are.

what courses are there at UBC. I wanna go to school out west but want a good course.. anything around skiing??

'Don't like hesh - Don't like rap - kicked ol' sally cos she fat - I'm a jerk I'm a punk took a shower cos I stunk - smoked a bong killed a cat - had my nuts attacked by rats dad got nude - I wore a thong - for a hobby I make bombs' Tom DeLounge

the vancouver locals are generally alright, although this year sucks. Grouse and Seymour (both like 45 mins roughly from UBC or SFU) have pretty dope parks and fairly long seasons, and Whistler fucking rocks. As for the classes at UBC, I expect they're pretty much the same as any other big university. There's no halfpipe 101 if that's what you're looking for but what universities have skiing related courses? Please let me know if anyone finds one. I always wish there was something like ski academies at the college level.

'Math my boy, is nothing more than the lesbian sister of biology' -Peter Griffin (Family Guy)

Let's put it this way: I'm a fulltime student @ SFU and I only have 2 days of class per week. Anyone who knows how to plan a schedule can get 4 days of whistler riding in a week. I know of people who have 2 days of school and live in whistler the rest of the week. No skiing related courses, but we do have a course on hockey and culture, so if you like hockey...

SFU and UBC are both pretty dope, but they're not slacker schools. You need to put in the work if you want to do well, just like most other schools. They're cheaper than most, if not all, US schools, and they're damn good too. I'd say move up here. You've got nothing to lose.

How hard is it (academically) to get into University of BC or Simon Fraser? What kind of high school GPA or test scored do you need to be accepted?

Sierra Nevada College is really cool - small - only about 600-700 students. They actually offer a degree in ski area management. Really close to many good tahoe ski areas. Pricey!

UBC wil be mid 70s to low 80s for entrance into most programs. UofC is great too. American money goes along ways up here.
