Were you ever a gaper?

First park experience.

I was 12, and I saw the pipe at Stratton and thought it would be fun to try and ski into it. So I went to go drop in from the deck, and almost killed a guy taking his run. He had to stop, it ruined his run, he screamed at me and was being all mean and unfriendly, so I became traumatized and never went in for 2 more years. Oops. But no I never really was. My mom tried to put me in one of those stupid Briko helmets that hurt like hell and are swooped up at the top, I wouldn't let her. I skied with a beanie until I almost got a major concussion twice in one fall at Solitude in Utah. Then I got a helmet. I pretty much was always looking for hidden runs in the woods, shit to jump off of, deep snow, that kind of thing, going super-duper fast.

But when I was a little kid and subject to the wills of my parents, oh lord:

This was the 90's though.

everyone is born as a gaper, then when they reach a certain level they evolv to NSer, then they evolve to G and then they evolve to pro, alltough most are stuck in the gaper fase....

I don't see what everyone's problem is with gapers, they're the most stoked people on the hill, they don't give a fuck how they look, and they're generally just having a good time.
I embrace my inner gaper.

this is actually one of the gaper threads with the least amount of hate on this whole site....

I started skiing when I was 4. I wasn't a gaper, I just dressed like one until about 3 or 4 years ago actually haha.

My first time skiing was with school...I was 11 no goggles, and I was wearing a jaguars starter jacket with a vikings beanie...my friends (who raced since they were like 2) told me to skip the lessons, somehow managed to turn through the cones to get my ticket my first time on skis (highland's mistake number 1)...first run my knees locked up and I straightlined down the hill and ran into the ski patrol ...he said if it happened again they would take my pass away(highlands mistake #2)...5 runs later I went off one of the freestyle training kickers (maybe a 20ft) and landed on my back receiving a compressional fracture in my spine(my mistake)...they jst should have taken my pass away...but I still remember how awesome that feeling was in the air before i hit, the teachers thought I was trying to do a backflip...I was addicted. true story.

my parents made me a deal when i was a youngin that if i was toilet trained, i could go skiing. next day i was on top of that throne. that commenced 10ish years of gaperism

I first time I was on a mountain was when I was 6 years old. Don't remember it honestly, but I didn't go back until the 7th grade when we got our mountain house.
My attire for the first 3 days on the hill consisted of:
Puffy First Down JacketPUFFY ass walmart snow pants with suspenders.
I looked like the nigger version of the michelin man. I need to find the pictures.
In about a week I started watching videos like 411VM and quickly got some legit outerwear, and a nice board as well (x-mas was coming up). For some reason I idolized MFM so I had all the largest and tallest shit, even at age 12. Continued until with this until I was 16...then I got on a pair of skis and it's been magic ever since.

i was looking at some old pics and saw a picture of me 2 years ago skiing and i laughed at how gay i looked. haha

Haha I totally forgot about this thread, I had a picture of my sis but it got deleted. It was her skiing in my friends yard when we were both small, she had my atomic racers on, her pink and blue coat with a snowflake line, an absolutely massive goggle gap, and my old helmet that was ten times her size, I'll try and find it

everyone was a gaper at some point. some still are:

look at the comments. he calls it mogul steeze

I started gaping at age 3 and at age 13 I learned myself some afterbang. Thats 10 straight years of gaping.

i started when i was 2 or 3, but never fully reached gaper, i remember i had a steez ass like green and red jacket one time though when i was like 7

I was never a gaper... I practically came out of the womb skiing. I have been brought up skiing my entire life. I can't even remember my first day on skis. The only thing gaper that I can say is that back in the day I guess about 15 years ago I had one of those Yellow Columbia jackets. That was definitely gaper. haha

i rocked a pair of juvys with some black markers and thought i was the shit. i wore a blue wizards jacket ultra absorbant and some shit overalls. and o ya two different boots. i had a crl70 on my left and a crl90 on my right. i bought em for 20 bucks

i knew what to look like, and i wouldve, but i always looked like a gaper because my parents thought the clothes were the style.

i had baggy shit with race skis too, because i couldnt get new ones until i grew out of the other ones.

holy shit theres a video me and my friends made like 5 or 6 years ago in my friend's yard

if only i could upload it....but the answer is yes, i was a huge gayper

Oh ya! I remeber a few years ago.... I had the big bulky racing helmet with huge 80's goggles, a really small racing type jacket with my ski clubs name embroiderd in the back, Pants with the bib tightened up against my chest making the end of my pants just cover the top buckle on my ski boot, and little kid racing skis that i thought made me really cool, so i bragged to everyone that i had racing skis and that made me the best skier ever. I couldnt figure out how to skate without tripping over myself and i dropped my skis all over the place and got yelled at in the gondola line for not being able to hold my skis. I went a quarter of the way up the half pipe wall and thought i was getting "big air" and I told everyone I was going to be an airealist because only cool kids did aerials. Yup I was a gaper, and I assure you i am no longer!

yes i believe i was, and the thing that made me a gaper the most was the fact that i thaught i was cool and steezy and going big
