Went to jail

so we went to jail today for a field trip for our student and law class and everyone was pysched like 'yeahhh!!getiin' outta school yaaaa!", so we went into the MCI medium security prison in Shirley,MA. we met and heard 6 guys stories about why they were in there and their lives ( there were 2 blacks,1 irish,2 white, and 1 puerto rican). soo this one guy is in there for manslaughter and what happened was: he was at a party with a few kids drinking and smoknig and everyone was having a good time, then the kids house that the party was at well his parents were coming home, so he yells to everyone to get out of the house so there is comotion from all the people trying to get out (when i said a couple of kids i meant maybe 30 or so). so this guy who was telling the story, his name was Jeff. So then Jeff tells us about how he was getting into his car with his friend to go home for the night and these 3 other kids needed a ride home so of course he said yeah.the kids in the car well one of them was talking about how he got his girl pregnant and he was broke and they all start talking (minus Jeff). the 3 kids in the back tell Jeff to drive to a store because they wanted to rob it (Jeff's other friend that was in the front seat that he went to the party with initally was shit-faced so he didnt know what was going on), so Jeff, who always felt like he didnt fit in, said sure. Well he drops the guys off at the place they were going to rob and after 2 or 3 minutes he hears a light 'pop'. the 3 dudes then come running out telling him to go!go! drive!! the 3 guys ( who he barley knew, he just partied with them adn they needed a ride) starting arguing saying things like 'dude whyd you shoot him?!' and 'that was some dumb shit!'. So Jeff figures out that they shot the guy, and then robbed the store. SO jeff drops them off and drops his other buddy off and goes home. He lays down to go to sleep, convincing himself he was a good kid. the next morning he wakes up and see's the newspaper on the table, with headlines saying something about a man shot and killed. he reads the article and it was the man last night that those kids robbed, he had died, but 'thank god' Jeff thought to himself because there were no suspects. a few weeks go by and long story shorter, he gets arrested. he's in prison for something like 15 years.

this dude didn't do anything, he drove a car ,and he didnt know what was going on. Jeff was a varsity soccer star, always getting MVP awards and traveling to Canada and places to play soccer, he was your average kid. After his story, that got me really down but it was this next kid's story who really got me depressed. They called him Carter, he was the other white dude besides Jeff (and the Irish man, which ironically they called him 'Irish'). So Carter never was into alcohol, or smoking weed or anything like that at all, in fact he was soo smart in school. he never wanted to be that nerdy kid that had no friends, and he never was that nerdy kid because he was the class clown. he would fool around in class and make jokes , people that he was funny. and when he would get A's on his tests kids would be like 'howd you get an A , you were fooling around with me!'.

So one day, when he was 16 his friend come over saying another one of their buddys had been getting bullied by this kid and his friends.this kid and his friends went to school at the next town over called Dartmouth. soo long story short, carter and his buddies go to the school after a few weeks. class is in session and carter and 2 other kids walk in with a baseball bat,a billy club, and Carter had a knife on him. The teachers had seen them early walk in the school and they had called the cops. One of the kids whimped out and ran away as Carter and his other friend approached a classroom. They both walk inside and recognize one of the kids that beat up their friend. so Carter's friend starts chasing the kid around the class with the bat, in all the chaos the teachers finally wrestle Carter's friend to the ground. Carter see's the kid his friend was chasing around as the kid walks toward him, Carter then pulls out his knife and stabs him in the stomach once. the kid falls to the ground and the teachers bring Carter and his friend down to the office where the cops were waiting for them. Carter didn't think anything would happen, and the cops told him he'd probably get a slap on the wrist and he was out. so down in a cell at the station Carter waits for his mother to come pick him up. 2 hours passes, 4 hours passes, and after 8 hours he started going crazy. he kept yelling and screaming and finally one of the cops walked over to him and said .' sorry kid, you didn't hear? the kid you had stabbed at the school died, you're charged with 1st degree murder (maybe 2nd i don't remember). carter collapsed. he couldnt believe it.

this kid, was so smart. he had everything going for him, colleges were practically begging him to come to their school. in this one situation gone wrong, he happens to stab a guy, who dies.

all the kids that were in my field trip dont realize it and i still cant help thinknig that those 2 people shouldnt be in there. they barely did anything, and i just cant stop thinking about it.

im pretty sure with the first story you dont get charged with murder is you were the driver, you get charged as the accomplice or assisting or something

haha one situation goes wrong? d00d he fucking stabbed a guy. Good fucking riddance.

yeah honestly, I think they both deserved something. Maybe not that harsh, but hey the one kid killed another kid. Wtf, how do you feel sorry for him? just because he was smart? i can kind aunderstand you on the first one, but the second one? wtf man, i think you were sucked into these poeples speeches. I've seen much worse penalties for much less crimes, and falsely accused offenders.

1st story: he should definatly not be in jail

2nd story: dude, he stabbed someone hes going to be put in jail.

that second guy Carter deserved to go to jail, when you stab someone you run the risk of killing them regardless.

he's been in jail for over 18 years man, he didn't intend to kill anyone, he put a knife in a guy one time, he still i think he said another 15 years

the first guy should have gotten like 5 yrs not 15 and the other guy fucking knifed a guy in the gut and he died how could u not see somethiong like that happening

haha that was my exact though "the 2 guys barley did anyhitng"...uhh he fuckin stabbed him, id say that more than nothing

but the first guy, how could he be in jail he did nothing wrong...they should have investigated the scenario better

both kids are complete idiots! i mean yea i feel sad for them but come on they could have prevented it.

First of all jeff should have called the cops immediately after that had happened that would have got him off completely i bet-maybe some community service-but he could say he didnt know what was going on and he didnt want to get shot! his fault on that one

as for the second one-whats carter doin with a knife at school? thats just dumb, no reason to stab anyone!! i feel sorry for them cuz it sounds like they had a lot going for them, but they could have been smarter about the whole situation.

Yeah i feel bad for the guy in the first story. But the 2nd guy...what did he think? He stabbed someone and he gets away with it?

he stabbed and killed someone. no shit he got murder, thats a bad fucking idea. the other kid though, shouldve gotten off with nothing or assist.

how would u feel if someone stabbed ur friend and they died...that persons going to jail end of conversation

Mumia Abu Jamal is in prison for a crime he didnt even commit. There were witnesses to the crime who say it wasnt even him... its a damn shame. Iguess he did alot for people too. He helped people.

FREE MUMIA!

you made it sound like he just walked up and gutted him, like a sucker punch but...instead he fucking stabbed the guy. was it a stumble or a mix up? otherwise he stabbed the guy intentionally and got what he deserved.

i heard a story about this dude that had a girlferiend...he was like a junior and she was a freshman, pretty common thing. anyways her parents found out and brought him to court for stachitory rape and he went to jail for a while...cant remember how long proly like 3-5 yrs...i think somethin like that sux more even though its a less time

lol good god.

he shot the cop. no question. True, he may have had a bogus trial, but he's still a murdered.

dude...the second kid STABBED ANOTHER KID IN THE STOMACH. when he was like 16. you think he should just get a slap on the wrist?

the thing is, those are THEIR stories, not neccesarily what happened. in the first story i wouldnt be surprised if he had helped plan the robbery, cuz who would drive his car to a store to let people he just met rob the place.

and in the 2nd story he walked into a school with a knife and stabbed a kid, thats pretty hardcore, however i dont think it would be 1st degree murder, becasue he stabbed the guy in "the heat of the moment" which is usually 2nd degree.

carter deserves what he got. he ended someones life, so 15 years doesnt seem that harsh. I do feel bad for the first guy if he telling the truth

i go to Groton Dunstable High, and i didnt say Carter should get a slap on his wrist, thats what the cop told him he would get ,until the kid he stabbed died

fucking moron should not have gone home and "thought" everything was cool....what a freaking retard, he was told that they were going to rob a store, yet he let it happen, then he waited and drove them home, he was told they killed someone and he did not report it? asshole got what he deserved! don't be so fucking dumb....

To Yeti and whoever else is talking about Mumia, I have to say that I have been studying him for a long time now. I have heard tons of cases for and against him, both sides equally flawed. Anybody can argue for hours on facts about the case and get nowhere. However the most useful thing to do is to read one of his books. His books are not about his conviction or trial, but is about social justice and inequality in general.

i dont care if your nickname is square peg in a round hole, no one feels like so much of an outcast that theyre going to change from a normal person to a getaway driver for people they didnt even know....that story sounds like bullshit...

the second kid got what he deserved, how could you hunt someone down, stab them, and expect to only get "a slap on the wrist"...shit I'm going to jail for 2 months if I get caught drinking again

how can you say the second kid didnt do anything?he stabbed someone! If the first thing you do to get back at some bully is to bring a knife and stab someone then i think you deserve to be in jail. What ever happened to good old fashioned fist fights? jesus

its like in shawshank redemption man... everyone in there is "innocent". in their own minds anyways.

think of it from the other side.

#1 you are a store owner who got killed and the only reason is possibly because someone drove two motherfuckers to come shoot you

#2 you got stabbed and died cause you beat up someones friend.

i went to jail with my school too, they were all in for manslaughter and i yes granted i think they should be in there and they did something completely wrong, but they were very nice, and extremely articulate. but i guess thats what happens when you sit in jail all day with just a library and a gym. the security guards also did say that these guys were like less than 5% of the prison and werent typical. they said the rest were quite crazy.
