hey im trying to weld a rail but the welder i got isnt strong enough to weld the steel piping together. do any of u guys know how strong a welder hsa to be to weld steel pipes to make a rail?

Are you using an arc welder? If so just put it on like 110-120 and use a 6011 rod. If its mig, put the voltage a couple notches from max, and wire speed at whatever it needs to be.

VIVA LA FRONTFLIP!

yea, you really cant fuck up mig welding. A cheap craftsman 200 dollar welder is strong enought to weld 1/4 inch steel, which is plenty for any park rail.

alright ill let my friend know that tryin to weld the rail. if uve never welded before is it hard to learn? cuz i wouldnt mine learning

teach urself. there's not much to it, although it'll likely take you a few tries. If you want just get someone to show you the basics and you can pick it up..

I takes practice to be good. But thats why we have grinders.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

^Im in the same boat, I am at school for mech engineering right now, and have been taught by another student the basics of welding. Now i just practice on random metel. Hopefully gonna get around to purchasing a cheep welder soon.

ya it doesnt seem all that hard to weld a few pipes together to slide. advanced shit probobly is but basic welding doesnt seem all that hard.

grind and polish the ends put like a 20 degree chamfer on it then sue about 120 and grid it to a smooth finish should do the tricck, it took me lie 2 months to really get good at welding. and if worst comes to worst use oxy-acetline its cheap and works as good, not to mention super easy

Dude....she ate her underware

Im taking welding classes right now I been taking the classes for 2 years now and it is so fun but you have to be very patient.

Member # 5329 I have been on here for such along time and i dont even have that many post.

ya it prob takes a long time to become really good at it just like any other trade but does it take long to just get the basics down? like welding rails? do pipes off like chainliink fences work good for making rails?

pipes from chain link fences need to be shorter then 6 feet to hold up under load unless properly supported, and yes oxy-ace can be welding too its accually the easyiest to control

if you dont want to die, when you are over the weld try nou to be directly over the smoke, second a divise for spray painting, like a resperator helps, third take your time and do it in sections, lastly make sure its sanded to a good bare metal, as much as this sounds like a lot it will save your life
