Guys, over the past couple years I've been eating like shit and I've gotten kinda fat :'(.

I was 185 at the beginning of August and I've gotten all the way down to 150 now. But I still have alot of fat like on my stomach, specifically the lower area around my belly button lol. Any suggestions on good weight loss/fat burning techniques? Feel free to share personal experiences too, Thanks!

damn, totally didn't think of that....

Well what did you expect..

If you're trying to lose fat around your stomach just eat really, REALLY healthy. Do high intensity workouts that get your heart rate up..a lot of cardio, and try to avoid any "cheat" days or meals.

Eat less, exercise more.

But seriously... 150 and you've still got chub? You must have zero muscle or be 4'10, get in the gym bub

Yeah I'm gonna start going to the gym more.. should I be lifting weights or doing cardio?

do both weightlifting and cardio. dont eat shitty foods. you can't target where to burn fat so don't do 'fupa exercises'.

stronglifts 5x5, then do whatever's fun for cardio on the off days ie tramp, running

If you're 150 now, there's no way that just dropping more weight will fix anything. Start doing a lot of core excersizes and lift. It'll turn the flabby stuff into muscle.

Dude idk... How tall are you? If I were 150 with the musculature I have now every vein in my body would be an inch out of my skin. Hell I'm 180 or so now with abs barely showing through and some mid section fat (5'9 and 30 LBS more than you). So are you really short or just that scrawny?

Getting more lean mass will increase your bmr (basal/base metabolic rate) which all other things being equal will tend to burn more calories and in turn lead to weight loss. Cutting the cardio and lifting for a month while maintaining a healthy diet might do you some good to be honest.

Eh it doesn't really work like that

I'm like 5'10/5'11. Idk whats wrong with me :(

Go to bodybuilding.com. Lots of very helpful information. But they key to fat loss is a calorie deficit. I would start at a caloric deficit of 500 calories. Bottom line: if you are burning more calories a day than you eat, you will lose weight. You can find an online calculator to calculate how many calories you burn a day. Then eat 500 calories less.

You have lost 30 pounds already, I will be the first to say congrats, I have tons if respect for people who are able to truly lose wieght.

And I guess I should probably eat a bit more along with that right?

I mean i guess..just make sure you're eating healthy.

Cut out all juice and soda while you're at it..it will help you so much.

Pick things up and put them down.

Go check out the weightlifting thread. Good advice in there from a few members like SAS and cali.

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm 5'7 and now weigh about 135. (I rock climb/train for climbing) so I do not lift weights but do more core/body weight exercises. I went from 160 to 130 and now just started putting on more muscle. I still have that bit of excess in my stomach area but heres what I noticed.

The fat you have isn't that much. You are just making yourself want to see more progress everyday. And you do, its just not all in that same area. You may look at your arms at this point and be like "wow I look cut". The fat you are losing now is the same throughout your body and not just in "fat storage" locations that it previously was (stomach).

Progress happens, you got the hard part done now just keep eating healthy and exercise. If you taught your body to lose that much weight, chances are you don't eat as much and have trained your body on what is a healthy diet. (unhealthy food makes you feel healthy)

Keep it up man and if you ever get down on yourself for not making progress, look at where you started at!

Wrong. You have to eat a Lot to faster metabolism.

Lol.. I am not saying to go on a starvation diet. Weight loss WILL happen if calories in < calories out. It's proven biological science.

Dude, you're doing great.

You lost 35 lbs of what sounds like mostly fat, so you obviously figured out how to control your diet to a reasonable level. You just need to strength train! Lift some weights, it will do your body well. You could gain 10lbs of muscle and see your fat percentage drop easily. Don't focus so much on your weight, focus on your body composition and the goals you have for yourself.

To put it in perspective, I'm 6' 180lbs with average body fat. I have been rock climbing a lot more and gaining fat since I am not biking nearly as much. I burn a ton of calories on the bike. When I was in high school I was the same height and weighed 165. I was running a shit ton and had low body fat and less muscle. At the strongest/biggest I've ever been in my life I was 171 and and could still run a decent 5:20ish minute mile and bike like an animal. I had more muscle than now but much lower body fat (and much more time to sleep, lift, and go outside haha). My legs were huge compared to now, I had to get an entirely new G-suit. Weight can fluctuate a lot based on what you're doing in your life.

The calories in / calories out model is completely broken. There are massive differences in what calories you put in your body, and what fat storage hormones they trigger. Eating low carb or low glycemic can allow you to keep calories way up yet still burn fat.

As well, cardio doesn't do squat for fat burning. Running an entire marathon only burns about one big mac worth of calories. I don't doubt that it is amazing for your cardiovascular system. On the other hand, doing anaerobic exercise raises your resting calorie burn, and makes it much easier to burn through those calories - even if you're going with the calorie in/calorie out Model.

Diet is key. Sure you can blast it all away with exercise, but if you want to lose mega fat or get absolutely fucking shredded then it must be a combo.

If you want a quick and dirty decent read on this stuff, check out the 4 hour body by Tim Ferriss.

There is no such thing as simply eating 'healthy'. You need to break down the science of what happens when certain foods enter your body, as well as how different types of exercise affect it. Then you can do whatever you want.

HIIT..

Also I meant calories in more of an energy sense... Not that you could eat two Big Macs a day and burn 2k calories and be ripped. Of course quality of food matters.

I've started on my own weight loss course recently, and have been blown away by how much of a difference cutting sugars and starchy carbs makes. Complex carbs are fine (beans, most legumes, etc.) but the simple ones just make you extremely fat.

I tried a ketogenic diet for a while, though it wasn't for me. Even eating high fat, high protein the weight just drops off like a rock. With keto you have to be really conscious of cholesterol and other things like that - but the idea that fat makes you fat is simply false.

Even certain fruits contain boatloads of sugar. Its 'good' sugar for sure, but it still triggers an insulin response and puts your body into storage mode.

Basically this. Just find your maintenance calories (number of calories to maintain your current weight) and subtract 500 calories max. The majority of weight loss is done in the kitchen and not at the gym, but being active will definitely help. Personally, I found that high protein and fat and low carbs worked for me.

If you're experimenting with diets, you should totally try the Slow Carb Diet (proposed by Tim Ferriss) which is a low-glycemic index diet. Dairy is sadly out, but having the legumes keeps you super full and there's loads of great food options. It also keeps you.... more regular.

I have been toying with the idea of dropping a "quick" 5 or 7 lbs before the ski season really hits as I have been doing a mini bulk for the last two months. Think I'm just going to stay with no cardio (except for my two basketball games per week) and try to nearly completely cut carbs. Gonna allow myself some with breakfast and that might be it. No sugary drinks, only black coffee etc. could probably lose 1lb a week at that rate hitting my goal by mid December or so.

Thanks so much guys. Bookmarking my thread so I can read it every now and then to remind myself of what more I can do to help this weight loss journey continue on

Honestly read into slow carb or keto. Do it properly and you'll drop that shit in no time. Obviously consult a health professional before doing anything to your diet based off of my advice though. :)

Honestly best thing to do is see your local doctor and ask them about weight loss. They will look at your body type and other variables and tell you what's best. So much better than those scam weight loss people.

Don't worry non-dr. Bishop, I won't hold you accountable for my medical conditions lol. I'm Italian so I fucking crave carbs like a junkie craves smack, so it's tough. Also, my mother is from Italy and can fucking cook. It's a wonder I'm not fat.
