Weight loss questions

I have always been told even the V8 Fusions have a SHIT TON of sodium in them. Salt isn't bad for you but it isn't good for you either.

Actually salt is hella bad for you. Not only for blood pressure, stomach ulcer risks-but it also causes water retention..... By all means replace electrolytes, but a banana has a shot tonne of potassium in it, a key electrolyte-not just sodium!

Notice though I said SOME salt. You don't have ANY salt then you don't get any iodine in your system and you get fucked too. It's all about balance.

this. too much salt in your diet will really dehydrate you among other things which goes hand in hand with panda's suggestion of drinking tons of water. seriously, just down a bottle of water when you're bored. it's good for your digestive system, it helps you stay away from junk food, it keeps you well hydrated, and its even good for your skin.
oh, and you especially need to stay hydrated if you're protein intake is fairly high protein because the more hydrated you are, the easier hydrogen bonds can occur in your muscles when they're repairing themselves. if those muscles cant properly repair themselves, that additional protein wont be reaching its full potential in your body.

Since the basic nature of correct ab function is isometric, the exercises in which the abs perform this function will provide exercises for the abs as well. This may seem childishly apparent, yet virtually every strength coach adds extra concentric/eccentric ab work to the program anyway. The thinking must be that just squatting, deadlifting, pressing, cleaning, snatching, chins, and barbell curls – all of which involve trunk stabilization as a critical performance component – do not provide sufficient ab work by themselves. I disagree.

That's Mark Rippetoe, one of the premier strength coaches in North America.

I don't see why there's this idea that squatting and pulling heavy is going to make you massive all over. There's a kid at the university of Western Ontario who pulls over 700 and weighs just over 215 at like 6'1? It's not really inefficient to get that big, I mean if you can squat 500 lbs for reps, and are cut as fuck? I don't see why that's a problem, you'd look pretty decent. There shouldn't be this attitude that you can't be strong AND look good. Hell once I'm done with football I'd have NO qualms with dropping 20 lbs of fat and getting into sub 10% range for BF. Bitches would fucking LOVE it.

If youre looking to lose poundage just cardio cardio cardio lifting weights isnt going to do any significant loss fast...I am trying to gain weight because I have been on Chemo for almost 2 years and weights are virtually all I do because I have a fast metabolism and if I do too much cardio i lose weight really fast which is not good in my condition. Plus the chemo caused necrosis in my knees so I cant run anyways and weights are the only exercise I can do. So basically run, bike and swim as much as possible and give up carbs and artificial sugar.

god i really need to pack on size. im at 6 % BF but dont have much size lol. then again im fifteen and im not on any sports teams so that might have something to do with it

in all honesty, your first part lost me. im not exactly sure what point you were trying to make.
anywho, that guy from western ontario sounds like a fucking champ. that wasnt exactly what i had in mind; i was more thinking that guys that get huge, not cut as fuck, but intentionally pound down protein and (heavy amounts of) creatine and other supplements just to get as massive as possible while simultaneously pushing themselves to squat/pull massive amounts when they have no sport/activity to justify it. all of which i only have a slight problem (not even a problem, i just dont understand it) because it's absurd to think you can maintain that. it's so much easier and more practical to get in really good all around shape and maintain that for your entire life as opposed to getting massive and putting up huge numbers for a few years and then struggle through adulthood to keep those massive pecs from turning into man-boobs.
if you can stay in a sustainable and realistic physical shape while putting up big numbers, more power to you.

Sorry, that was basically my reply to you talking about ab/core work.

Hell, once I'm done football I might even take up crossfit on a regular basis. Chris Spealler is where I'd like to be when I'm like 30. That's a good combination of everything. Speed, strength, endurance.

i have no idea what either of those mean, i just bike everysingle day and eat waaay to healthy haha

i like crossfit for their workouts, but thats about as far as it goes.
between how expensive the program is, how reliant you are upon their schedule and location, and how narrow minded a lot of participants are in appreciating other workouts, it kind of just bugs me.
i guess thats not a good justification; ive just had a lot of friends turn into crossfit douchebags before my eyes so im a little biased.
good overall workout program though, and chris spealier is an awesome target to go for. that's my idea of being in shape as opposed guys that get huge when their 20, fail to maintain said shape, and develop layers of blubber that makes them look like one big ball of bleh by the time they're 30.

I'm saying how did you measure your bodyfat to know that you're 6 percent? I don't wanna be a dick but if you haven't actually gotten it tested in one way or another it's not really accurate.

oh yah i definately no its not completely acurate. some military way of doing it with measuring a bunch of different parts of your body and weight/hight/gender. it said it was 5.88 and i measured everything EXACTLY too the decimal

no, its hips neck chest waste ass wrist forearm and i think a few other. plus your height weight and gender.

i don't drink enough milk throughout the day to make raw milk beneficial. pasteurized milk will suffice. if i got more than 10% of my daily calories from milk consumption then i would think about the switch. as for me, i might have some milk in the mornings, but i usually have coffee. i have milk after 1.5 hours after my pwo drink to hold me over a bit longer till i eat. and a half glass of milk to wash the tablespoon of peanut butter i eat before bed to supplement my casein drink on the days that i worked out.

and the important issue between raw or pasteurized is whether the cow was grain or grass fed.

eat healthy and exercise.

check out bodybuilding.com, lots of good articles there.

once you get in better shape, start doing crossfit. crossfit.com. that shit is baller and will get you strong as fuck

V8 fusions have a shit ton of sugar. Most fruit drinks have tons of sugar in them, and are very high in calories. It is better to stay away from fruits and eat veggies almost exclusivly as you will get fiber(makes you feel full and helps digestion) and the vitamins/minerals.

Eat fruit sparingly, and do not get your carbs from anywhere elese than veggies...raw if possible

I wouldn't go THAT far. Crossfit is fine for most stuff, but for the big 3 you're not going to get MONSTER strong. More so than the average guy, but not beast mode shit.

It's still cool shit though.

didn't read the whole thread. but correct me if i'm wrong....the workouts your doing such as bench..squat ect, are bulking workouts ? atleast thats what i think.... hit the elyptical. and lifting weights doesnt burn fat.

Listen here child

Lifting a weight, does not bulk. Doing a specific exercise, does not bulk. Eating a caloric excess bulks. You're not gonna get huge and flabby from benching/squatting. They're important muscle sparing exercises on a cut, without them you're going to drop just as much fat as muscle.

3 tips
1) Carry a 4 litre jug of water and drink that. juice and pop and easy 120 calories you dont need.2) get an ipod, put some tv movies on it, do 40 mins speed walking and most incline you can do on treadmill, burns up to 500ish calories. 3) cut out shitty food and eat 6 small meals per day

The key to losing weight is to have less calories in your body. It's alot easier to lose calories from dieting than exercise. I mean a shit ton. Many ppl can cut their calorie intake in half. It's a SHIT TON easier to not eat 3 big macs than to burn those off in 3 days.

I'm all for working out to lose weight, but i feel like many people don't understand the importance of reducing your calorie intake. I just find that a lot of people in this world think they can keep eating fast food 5 times a week and be at a healthy weight as long as they work out.

this can be very flawed because you have to make sure you're still eating properly. obviously cutting out junk food and excess calories is super important and probably a good solution. fixing your eating habits is crucial, but i wouldn't necessarily say cut the intake in half. the amount of calories you intake is based on your weight, height and activity level. and unless he's 300 lbs, i don't know if he needs to cut his cals in half.

all being said, you should do both, and it's tough as fuck, so you need to find an exercise routine you'll enjoy, so you can do it for a long time. and working out, or at least being more active will contribute to living a longer and healthier life. so if you're worried about being 50 and wobbly, hit the gym! you can't just eat less calories to live healthily. you have to make sure you get a proper diet in there so your body functions properly too, so eat GOOD, and get yourself a little workout system.
