Weight Lifting

Hey, i know this might not be the best NS question, but ive asked around and searched online, but still havent found any good information, so i thought id try out NS. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and have been on and off since about october. No matter what i do and how many different exercises i do i dont get bigger. My sats have gone up but nothing great, my bench is 205 and i do alot of other chest exercise, but i cant get a bigger chest. Anyone have any ideas, im open to supplements, but not sure if i feel like it, i did creatine a couple years ago back when i played hockey and football, but all it gave me was the shits, no results.

i'd go to your gym and ask someone there who knows what he is talking about and might be able to give you a program to follow or have some tips on what to do

well make sure you are lifting so that by about your 8 or 9th time out of 10 you can barely finish or...

go to like gnc or something. they sell stuff that is like 25x more powerful than creatine in like drinks((i have it so no im not lying)) and you dont have to be over 18 to buy it...

word get no-xplode and the best way to get bigger muscles is to doenuff weigt so u can do only like 3-5 reps like i can do 10 reps at like 100lbs but to get big id do like 135-145 so u basically maxed

yeah, im not a fan of no-xplode, it sounds sick, but ive talked to people in my gym about it and they all have bad experiences with it, they say xience? or something is more legit, but i want to hear that from more than 2 people, and yeah i asked the guys at my gym, but they arent the biggest help, ive lifted with some big guys just for guidence, but it doesnt seem to be working out.

Also, you supposed to eat carbs, i thought protien? Ive always thought carbs are energy for like long distance running and biking, and protien was to get bigger and leaner?

just eat everything. And don't take supplements, they are the easy way out and are not good for you, they aren't natural. I don't have science to back me up, just my very strong opinion, haha. Just EAT EAT EAT, maybe take some protein powder but most of the time you just shit it all out anywyas so its a waste of money.

Yup...

I don't take any supplements. Consistency is the msot important thing to weight lifting, so if you're doing a week and missing two it won't do anything for you. You have to go every week.

Eat carbs and protein, drink lots of water and don't take supplements.

dont forget to work out your legs, you look like an idiot if you dont. And also, run a little bit. No it won't make you lose your muscle. If you think it does, then you are wrong. This guy is a world class sprinter, just imagine how much he runs. Mostly shorter sprints, but still, throw in a couple mile jog here and there

Yeah i always run 2 miles before i lift just to warm up, and yeah i do alot of legs, i have no trouble gaining mass there either, its just my chest, i look like pop eye and it pisses me off, put to the post above this i go every week, what i meant my "on and off" in the thread was because i took a month off because i had mono and then 2 weeks because i had tendonitis in both wrist and bruised my knee cap bone

You have 2 major barriers to success right now. No supplement is the magic bullet, nothing you can take will have even a fraction of the effect that making these simple changes will have.

First, you need to get off the frat fag program. Benching and curling alone will not get you jacked. You aren't going to like this because it is hard, but what you need to do is focus on compound movements, especially the big 3: squat, dead, bench, ESPECIALLY the first 2. Your body is not dumb and it does not like to add muscle unevenly and create imbalances. Assuming you're a skier, this is what you really want anyway! You need to develop a strong base before you will ever get "ripped" "diesel" or whatever you kids call it these days.

Second, EAT! I don't care how much you think you eat, you don't eat enough. If you want to realize your maximum potential gains you need to be getting about 5,000 calories a day, at least some of it from good food, not all from Big Macs.

If you take anything from what I just wrote, DO SQUATS AND DEADLIFTS!!! These are difficult, taxing movements that will not be easy to do correctly at first, but do your best to learn proper form and stick with it. Plus, doubling your squat will increase your skiing ability more than you can even imagine.

yeah i know, the only reason i mentioned bench is because most people can relate, im not a fan of bench, i do alot of flys and other things for my chest, but i have back problems so i cant squat as much, its more of a toning thing, i just do leg presses to max out, and my goal is not to get ripped, i dont want to be a meat head, i just want to even out and get cut

hey man, take a look at the "Bigger, Faster, Stronger" program, we've just started using it for football at my Highschool, and it works pretty well, as others have said, you should focus on Bench Squat and Deadlift...which is very similar to squat however the weight is in your hands and such, then it also has auxiliary lives, bicep curls, lex extensions and curls, tricep extensions, hang clean etc etc etc

yeah alright thanks alot, i know all of the exercises your mentioned, i do them, exept for squats because of back problems, but yeah, i want to start lifting with our football team, but, i cant get myself out of bed that early in the morning

word, heavier weights less reps for more mass and strength, lighter weights more reps for definition and endurance.

ehh if you do cleans correctly they won't hurt your back. If you have bad form you can get fucked. I do tons of cleans because i run track (jump mostly), and they are my favorite lift becasue i think they are the most fun

its not the form, i just have prior back problems from falling to much, idk i hope to be 100% soon enough but yeah thanks for the advice

As said above you need to work your back. To have a nice chest you need a strong back to pull your chest up and out. You will see those guys with big chests but there hunched over and just look stupid. With your bad back what kind of deadlifts do you do?

for squats and deadlifts i just put less weight and do high reps, its not the movement, its the weight, but i should be able to start lifting more in a week or two

theres this shit that i take you can get it at GNC its called nitro tech u gain 7 pounds of musel is 7 days dude its sweet but it tasts real bad get vanalla if you get it

^^^ Do not listen to the last 5 posts. Muscletech is wack and way way way overpriced. N02 is bogus. Do not be a drone who eats up everything the flashy advertising says. Simply put, it is not possible that taking an essential amino acid (arginine, which is the supposedly active ingredient in N02 boosters) and have that directly effect your body's muscle building process. Just think of how careful you would have to be about everything you ate if eating a normal, essential amino acid can have this strong of an effect. It is simply not true. Furthermore, some of these supplements can cost $100 for a single weeks doses.

so true. NO2 will make you big, but you will be full of water. You will not be strong. You are wasting your money on an image and cutting corners. This will get you nowhere in life. I feel like this whole fad of using bs supplements is symbolic of the entire american lifestyle.. its pretty lame

When you bench have you ever tried doing any pyramid style training? Its a really good way to change up your work out and just tear apart your chest.

yea, good point considering i buy jars of no-xplode for about $50 bucks. that last me about... a month and a half/2 months. and i dont know about you guys, but it works for me. and dont tell me that im imagining it, because i am definitely not

i go to the gym 6 times a week, for chest i do....bench,decline bench, incline bench, decline flies, flat flies, reverse flies, if u do all of these and keep the reps in the 6-8 range, ur chest should defintly get bigger. I take whey protein, and mega whey extreme.

are u lookin for definition or size in your chest if size try some whey protein before and after your workout and size-on before u go to sleep and just try and eat right im eatin about 300-500mg of protein a day but im also try to go big big ive gained 24 and a half pounds in the last three months and my body fat is down to 7.5% and i still have excellent definition. Also try to push yourself on doin alot of flys and close grip benches.

best thing to do is go on some sort of a program, you can buy books with programs for cheap or possibly find one online, but those are the best way to regulate your lifting

here are some reasons...

give your muscles 48 hours- if you work out the same body group two days in a row they will actually decrease in size, so you need to do upper one day, and lower the next, or some sort of a alternating schedule to avoid this.

watch your workout diet- your muscles take in about 80 per cent of nutrients after a workout; up to 45 minutes after. after this point they basically don't receive anything, so it is very important to have a fruit juice or something high in sugar to replenish your muscles after a workout. it doesnt have to be after, it can be during or before even, just make sure that you have the fuel for your muscles to use. also, protein is important to have for a workout, so you should make a protein shake with fruits for the best thing to drink after you work out.

plateau- this happens when you do the same exercises and weight for 2-4 weeks, try to switch it up and lift more even if you're not quite ready. (you can do reverse sets, or try similar exercises for the same muscle group

sets and reps- you should also vary these, go for endurance one week and lift 15 reps then go for strength the next and go for 8 reps. also, you can do a circuit where you do like 4 exercises on after the other for about 2-3 circuits. also, you can try 'pyramids' which you do 5 sets starting with low reps to high to low, or reversed (high to low to high)

Your diet man. If you are working out like you say then the only reason is your body has nothing to build muscles with. Lifting weights does not build muscle, it does the opposite. Lifting tears the muscle. The growing and bulding process comes from eating the proper foods that your muscles can use and build off of. To gain after lifting you need a combination of diet and rest.

deadlift is when the weight is on the ground, u bend down, and lift it with your legs. for a better lift some people will then lift the weight over their head. this is a huge help for quick speed.

word holmes im the same way, i have weighed 120ish since fuckin junior year. I worked out alot senior year and maybe put on 10 lbs but lost it all afterward. Now Im back in the swing of gymin and eating, and i have put on 2 3 lbs weekly.(haters thats whats healthy) First you need to workout everything, your entire body if you do certain areas alone you are screwing yourself you wont get bigger you'll get off balance and other negative bullshit. You also gotta know that its gonna take 2 weeks before you feel results and a month before you see results, that is if you are working out right eating right and stretching right and drinking tons of water. For me i couldnt put weight on until i started eating until i felt like i was gonna puke then continuted to eat till i was sure i was gonna puke, then i would stop and hold that shit down. There is alot more to it that just working out when your a skinny mafucka in the begining

That's why you aren't gaining. You skipped 6 weeks of training spread out over a course of a while.

If you skip, and go off and on in your routine, you will not gain.

You have to commit to your exercise routine if you want to build or train. You can't skip days.

Going to the gym should almost be religious.

And if you're having trouble gaining, eat tons of food. You probably have a really high metabolism. You should be getting 2-3 grams of protein per pound of body weight, everyday.

And if you are going to eat that much, spread it out over 7 smaller meals. You can eat every 2 hours and it'll work out. You should spread out your meals because your body can only make use of a certain amount of protein at a time, something like 50-60 grams.

But if you wanna gain weight, go to the gym at least 3 times a week. Eat a shitload of food. You'll gain.

I've been going for a month and 2 weeks. A month and 3 weeks ago, I weighed 145. Now I weigh 160. A lot's fat and water, but still...

what you need to do is push ups and sit ups. those complete body resistant excercises are what work the whole upper body. there is no better way to work out than that. get to the point where you are honestly doing 500 or so each day, and you will definitely see yourself get bigger. yeah you can take such suppliments as whey protein or whatever, but dont take steriods, its not worth it. i wouldnt squat or dead lift unless you have a trainer or something telling you exactly how to do it. also you need to eat right and eat a lot when your working out. and if you are lifting weights, you can take breaks, you have to do it basically everyday or you will lose what you gained, a lot faster than it takes to gain it.

If you want a bigger chest you have to keep increasing over time theres no fast way, also, lower your body fat percentage.
