yo

Whuddup everybody. Got a few for ya today. Ill start it off with a

little tale from wed night. I was with some people at a persons house,

and we were all chillin out, most were smoking, some were drinking, and

the rest wished they were. Well, I picked up a drum and started to jam

out, and then the guitars came out, and damn we had a sweet sesh.

Charlie rocked it out in classical, joe rocked the base, and me on bongo.

So I am getting smoked out so I decide to go for a walk in the rain. Im

walking down the street, and Im thirsty as hell. mouth is so dry. Look

up to the sky to help me. Open my mouth, let the drops fall in. ....my

patience is not what it could be. Its not enough. I look at my down

jacket and see the pools of water sitting on it. So I start sipping?

licking? lapping? the water from my jacket, developing a true

appreciation for clean water, imaging myself as a deer in the morning

licking dew from the leaves. So as you could imagine, to a passerby I

might look a little ...wierd. Sure enough, on a porch across the street,

a HUGE guy all dressed in black, sketched out in the shadows, is

staring at me. I put a halt to my communion, and slowly walk on. As i

pass by im like Hey.... (dont kill me) - I was in a very sketch part of

ottawa) and i look up, and fuck me its a face from the past. Grade 7 and

8. Ed. So we talk , its cool, and yeah, went back to the house, and

then proceeded to attempt a trip to the bar, which just resulted in me

taking 6 buses back and forth each time i changed my mind about going

home or out.. by myself, falling asleep and missing my stop. Then I

bought chocolate and went home.

the end

so... life partners can be either girls or guys, just someone you live

with. I know its hard to get women out of their rut while they are in

school, they can be very focused and motivated. Yes, having a base is

good for your tower of beliefs (or pyramid in my case). However you

build your base is fine. I build mine through the experiential realm as

well as the formal education realm. I did the school thing, graduated

grade 13 with an 80 average, did a year of college didnt fail anything,

got a few As, Bs, and Cs. But thats not my life, its just a game, their

game. not mine. I play it because I can see that its best while youre

young and your brain is sponging up complex trains of thought and it

keeps my doors open for future change within my being. Now not everyone

should do what I do, there is no right way for everyone to be. Yes, we

need engineers. Yes, we need a whole bunch of humanity to build our

glorious cities. But whose dream are we all building? sure as hell isnèt

mine.

So I will be a part of this modern world, but im not devoting my life to

making it bigger. Im going to build something. Tree houses in the

rainforest. So i can shelter my friends, and help natures healing back

into the lives of the Lost Ones.

but hey, thats just me.

so sat night i went to see ani difranco, along with dan bern (check him

out).

awesome. just like her show in banff. I was surprised that even though

there were 20 times as many people in ottawa than banff, people were

still acting the same, not intimidated by the crowd. It was awesome. I

even talked to her (well, she replied to one of my heckles) i yelled ¨Come

live here!¨and everyone cheered, and then she said öw, twist my arm,¨and

then someone yelled that marijuana is legal here, and she goes ¨how

civil you guys are...see, im assimilating already¨....

yeah it was cool. I wanted to go live with her. i guess ill just have to

find one like her. Yeah, so shes a feminist, so what? Men deserve it,

and women should all be so inspired.

Well....after the concert I had another first (i dont know what the

first first was, meh)...I joined some friends in going to Icon, a gay

bar, for its last night open. That was quite the experience. Its wierd

having guys pat you on the ass, as polite as they are, and drag queens

freak me out. The hot girls making out along with the straight ones were

enough to keep me there, at least for a while. And then it was off to

bassets, oh yeah, The Basement. so many memories. Yeah, we rolled up,

and then he kicked everyone out, and then we went to the treehouse and

hit up the zipline and made a huge fire. mary stepped on this roof

outcropping that someone else built (of course it wasnt me..really it

wasnt) and down she went, landing on the stone path luc built. maybe she

was sitting trying to jump off, i didnt quite see, only the fall. I

fixed the zipline, now its really fast. gotta tighten that stopper, it

slides.

There is always someone who knows more. Sometimes I am that someone. My

words are not those of finality or absolution. They are the best I have

at that moment in time. Change is the only constant. Always searching

for the latest upgrade, be it relationships, beliefs, lifestyle or

location. A search for inspiration becomes our destination, and at one

point, the realization that the search IS the inspiration. A cities

power is awesome. To destroy, create, to drain and to fuel. they become

a test of the integrity of men and women. Dependancy. A requirement. As

we age, dependancy among friends is shunned, the assumption that

youthfullness leads to rebelliousness, self abuse, irresponsibility, and

all around troublemaking negativeness becomes the norm. Dependance

between a couple is promoted, knowing that couples result in

responsibility, kids, productivity, soberness, and all around healthy,

loving, nuturing, contributedness.

Self-made, self-driven ïndividuals¨become the role models for our

society. Those who fail become outcast, left to their own devices, lost

in the cracks, kept in check by the police who harass the unhealthy,

unwealthy. ¨troublemakers¨, ¨losers¨, ¨problematic¨ people, the only

record of their lives stored on police computers, to be used against

them should they rise up.

FUCK THEM.

Shawn.

dude, i live in ottawa, are these treehouses you wrote about around here?

ps. i am at that stage where im a freshman at carleton, doing semi-well mark-wise, and yet im wondering why the hell i am bothering with this institution. i would rather gain knowledge by travelling the world and by getting firsthand experience with real people. school is not making me happy. i feel that i will likely end up choosing a similar path as you did, and i am wondering (pm me about this, you dont necessarily need to tell everyone) does it make you happy that you have gotten to see the world and experience much more than you would have inside the walls of a lecture theatre or a lab? my pursuit of happiness is what is most important, as i am quite unhappy with my life at the moment. i am being ruled by a class schedule and exam timetable, and i wish school would just end...i knew there was a reason i wanted to live in golden, bc, this year instead of going to school.

Lanks...I graduated last year from a pretty nice private school in OR. i actually applied to Carleton and got accepted but went out to OR instead. To tell you the truth, I feel the complete opposite. Here is my situation: I went to school in OR for 4 years and double majored but had no plans afterwards. In October of this year I moved to Summit CO, Colorado with no money or plans, I slept on a friend's floor until I finally got a job at Keystone. now I ski everyday and got a free pass to ABasin, keystone, breckenridge, Vail, and beaver creek. I've lived in Chile, Oregon, WI, and CO. I've been to every state and skied various places in Canada. YOu know what? I may have traveled a lot and had fun and learned a lot, but I would give anything to be back in school, pursuing a vocation that will allow me to actually WORK at something I love and at the same time make a difference. I'm having fun traveling and whatnot, but I miss learning

dude, learning is not what school is for. Learning comes from books, which are available to everyone, and from my experience, the books in a bookstore you find are a million times better than any school text. What school course teaches enlightenment and magical living?

its not black or white, one or the other, do both.

yeah man, go to collage travel on vacations. my borther is doing that and he is so happy, he has gone to so many amazing places all over. but is still going to an a great university. also, he is going to zimbabwe (sp?) for a month with a prof and some other students, and from there is his going to uganda to take be the photographer of someones wedding, for money. my brother is getting a great education and traveling all over the world. seems pretty great

yeah, its good, btu you also have to understand that first, not everyone can do that because of the circumstances of life, faminly, friends, health, etc. Also, how much debt does your brother have?

debt is not cool in my books, and Im in no hurry whatsoever to be in it.

I have to agree with skipimp on the whole debt issue, that is what is holding me back from going back to school. Debt sucks ass, plain and simple. Also, we as Americans have a lot of what is called inherited wealth. Not physical wealth like currency, but wealth as in we started off in a ncie family with a privaleged youth. I know I wouldn't be in my current situation, living and working as a ski bum basically, if it wasn't for my parents and their financial situation when i was born. Picture this: We bitch and moan when our pizza isn't on time, but there are literally a billion people without that opportunity

True. Now the flip side to that coin, is with that wealth we were born into, we are also born into obligation. Obligations to fufill in order to express our gratitude for what we have and how we llive. Those obligations are varied and numerous, such as: Be home for supper, have the car home by midnight, do the dishes, get a job, dont drink too much, dont do drugs, go to school, go to school again, go to school again, find a nice girl, contribute to your society, help your friends fufill those same obligations, be reliable, on time, work hard.

And all these obligations can be perfectly acceptable, or they can be the bane of your existence. Especially if you are a strong willed individual who does not fear the unknown, and who is ready to grasp their life in its entirety and truly be free, then you sprout wings and find esctacy, and you find other esctatic individuals and you never want to come down. But those obligations can fly too. Maybe they are just hurled at you by your family or other controlling force, but damn, they can knock you right out of the sky, and they do on a regular basis, until theres too few fliers, and they begin to get lonley, they begin to party too much, get confused, become fallen.

We are the fallen ones. Remember that. Even if youve never flown, you feel like a fallen one.

Do i speak the truth or am i full of shit like my mom tells me every day?
