Need I remind you that these are the same 'government agencies' that said marajuana will cause you to murder your friends, rape and pillage, and other such niceties since the 1920s. These are the same agencies who once stated blacks are inferior, homosexuality is a clinical disease, and et cetera.

Bottom line: The government is easily influenced by biased individuals, and money. Similarly, private bodies are influenced by the same things. Even if the science is good, the power lies in the person writing the report and the publishers publishing it. Still, I am FAR more inclined to believe harvard/cornell research than any of that dribble coming from the FDA. Harvard has a solid scholastic track record, the FDA has a history riddled with pharma kickbacks, corruption, influence from executive agendas, and just plain quackery.

In summation, Gavajabra is a massive troll.
 
I believe this, but don't take it the wrong way. There's not saying marijuana's good for you. But it's just kinda re-assuring for those people who do smoke marijuana. And, if you've got lung cancer, just start smoking weed! :P
 
I was just posting it to make sure you understood the definition of 'Research' (as is what I did to find out my information), no witty comeback intended.
 
People aren't responsible enough to not drive around high, we've seen it time and time again with these multi-DUI car crashes and all the glory of drunk driving (which is what I'd rather prevent, drunk driving only in the form of driving while high)

Why oh why would the government NOT want to legalize marijuana coming from a $ stand point? They would make a KILLING, cigarette's build everything everywhere if they had good ol' Mary J to back it up, it would be tax city. I never said I disagree'd with Harvards study, there can be good and bad side affects from a single drug (as I have stated in this thread previously)
 
Oh and I'd like to add, there is no scientific proof that Black's are inferior, but there is scientific evidence linking the affects of marijuana to the human body.
 
I've searched alot of sites and many conclude that Marijuana can slow your reaction time, memory and coordination (which sounds like it'd make driving a bit more of a challenge, if you ask me). The only way we can know for sure is legalization and seeing how many more accidents a year occur (which is dangerous, if the affects truly impair people that bad)
 
WHAT in the WORLD makes you say such an ignorant statement like your first couple sentences? People who drive drunk/high on other drugs obviously don't think "Hey, I'm pretty fucked up right now, better stay off the highway!"

What about the inexperienced drug users who get messed up and drive on the same highways as you and the same roads as you? Does that make you feel more safer or more at risk?

ive never had anything bad happen to me in all the time of smoked pot, chronically. If anything it has improved my personal state of mind. As for health
 
Isn't that the issue though?

A. people have time and time again proven themselves incapable of being responsible in pretty much any situation... drug related or otherwise.

B. when your high... your decision making abilities are compromised, therefore rendering one incapable of being responsible by default.

It very well may be true that THC has some anti-cancer effects attributed... though as with everything in cancer research some studies will say that it wont cause cancer and then a few months later another study will come out saying it will. Hell they are even saying that non-stick pans cause cancer now (legit... they really are saying that) So only time will tell if THC does cause cancer.

Taking THC out of the mix, Smoking anything, be it Weed, be it cigarettes, be it a dandelion, will have negative effects on your body. Your lungs were never ever meant to have any type of smoke in them, The smoke clogs your lungs up, the heat from the smoke and the shit in the smoke scars your esophagus, bronchial tubes, and lungs.

I've never smoked before, so i can't tell you that it doesn't make you concentrate better or that it doesn't help calm you down for a test. But I can tell you this as a fact. Smoking weed kills your brain cells. Brain cells DO NOT grow back. EVER. So while in the short term you might be able to concentrate a little better because you smoke everyday before class... by the time your done with school your going to have less brain cells than Timmy from South Park. Also... everyone that I know that smokes on a regular basis... which I know a lot... become totally retarded when they start smoking regularly. Perhaps you don't notice the change in your self... but i promise you people around you notice it.

Now that I have finished bashing smoking weed I must confess that I have mixed feelings on its legality. I firmly believe that the government really doesnt have right to stop people from being stupid and self-deprecating. If you want to waste all your money on weed... and you want to smoke yourself stupid then thats your own problem. The government shouldnt be able to stop you from doing it.

I agree for the most part, until you start talking about legal issues. I really don't care if you spend your money on weed, or look like a moron, smoking weed and doing activities will cause lives just like drinking too much alcohol.
 
When you ARE high, THC doesn't have super-varying effects on different people. The difference depends on the strain of weed, how much each person has smoked, etc.

I have never been in an accident while high.. its usually when i'm not high i get into accidents... I think the government is just refusing to legalize it because they look at it like its the enemy... if they make it legal, people are going to be growing it in their homes, people will be selling it behind the governments backs... and the government cant make any money off of it.. like driving drunk thats worse than being stoned.. the reason they dont make drinking illegal is because they can tax it... ciggerettes kill people like everyday someone has died of ciggerettes, but yet again they're legal cause the government has controll of it and can make money so they will not lets say they throw weed in there they wont be able to controll it people will become more self sustaining on selling it buying it and growing it without them being able to get any money.. so its better if they keep it illegal and shit.. but its pointless because if they did legalize it it would take alot more dollers from the police cost to "punish individuals(only in the U.S.)" and what not persue them if you will just to stop a couple pot heads from getting high or whatever... its cheeper to let the pot heads be we're not hurting anyone... so i say make it legal for people to buy and sell and everything... if it was legal to grow... fuck I'd have like 10 plants in my house...
 
My Rant of the Day:

Actually it doesnt kill brain cells. It can impair them for a while if you smoke a lot, regularly. If you become totally baked, I garuntee you will be back to normal in a month if you stop cold turkey (not that its hard; weed isnt addicting at all, hope you realize that). The cells will heal themselves within that time and you will be back to normal. Most of my friends who smoke a shitload have nearly strait A's and don't act all calm or stupid or anything like that.

Timmy from South Park is retarded. In no way can weed make you retarded. I can make you temporarily stupid, but no permanent brain damage is possible. It merely impairs the cannibanoid recepters and dopamine glands on certain parts of the brain that control sensory, basic problem-solving, and any other common concious perception.

That's like saying getting drunk all the time will kill your braincells simply because your mind experiences a high. Drinking definately fucks up your liver, but it doesnt kill braincells. Drugs like inhalents and meth kill braincells. Weed does not. I dont even know why they call weed a drug. Its healthier than alcohol and tobacco. Hell, I'd rather smoke weed than eat at McDonalds or drink soda. That shit is MUCH worse for you in my opinion.

Unless you've smoked it yourself you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not saying you're a pussy for not smoking. If you choose not to smoke then I respect your life choice in a righteous fashion.

I will agree on how any smoke no matter what kind will do minor harm to your esaphagus and lungs. People can't even argue that.

Of course, personal long-term experiance isn't NEARLY as reliable as random facts you overheard (sarcasm lvl: 10)
 
how about the idea that marijuana isn't being legalized because some major cigarette companies have plenty of money to throw around to "convince" senators and state reps to keep it illegal in the hopes that people will smoke cigs instead of marijuana
 
That post is idiotic. Of course the government would be making money off of it, actually growing it without a permit could stay illegal but you can go to the gas station and pick up a couple joints legally. Saying that the government wouldn't make money off that is plain retarded, I'm sure plenty of people would buy it from the store and not resort to growing it so that point is clearly wrong. Besides all of that, whatever you people say, driving while high is a dangerous risk and that's the last thing I want driving on the same road as me. Not ONLY that it is just a different term of smoking and has negative affects just like cigarettes.
 
Good for your friends. I don't think you people really understand the point of this 'debate'. Marijuana is harmful not only to the smoker, but to the people around them when they're high. You said it yourself, "It can make you temporarily stupid". Then you're talking about drinking fucking up your liver, Marijuana is smoking. Smoking 5 joints a week is equivilant to smoking 1 pack of cigarettes everyday for a week which is fucking up your lungs, too. I don't think you understand what a "drug" is. A drug is something that affects your body and the way your body works. You take pepto-bismol if your stomache is upset, pepto-bismol is a drug. Eating McDonalds isn't good for you, but the affects aren't permenant. McDonalds wont make you permenantely fat, you can exercise and work off the calories, and take other steps to lower cholestoral. Lung damage isn't reversable, it build's up over itme no matter what you do. These aren't facts I've "overheard", and unless you are a doctor and are analyzing the damage you do on your lungs every time you smoke, or your a scientist and do experiments on your brain while high, then your 1st hand information isn't very reliable.

the mechanism by which cannabis causes its effects is by interaction with cannabanoid receptors, which then lead to the release of other chemicals (neurotransmitters, hormones etc)

(excuse the crap analogy, but i'm tired)

anyway, saying that THC kills braincells is like saying pressing the buttons on your remote breaks it. (thc=you pressing the buttons, buttons=receptors, remote=neurone, tv=body)

HAhaha.. Now this I know for a fact...for a FACT that it isnt true. At least for the first 7 years (or more)that you smoke, it will not effect ANY athletic performance. My friend is the state champion ..let me say that again STATE Champ in a certain track and field event for my state in the best division from Pa. Running against D1 football players and amazing athletes and he beat them all... all while smoking at least 5-6 times a week for the past 2 years prior to winning. So I know thats a load of bullshit in its self... but than again thats why you said it " may be " negatively effected..right?
 
I have asthma, allergies and a heart condition and I smoke and ride my bike daily. Atleast 5 miles. I've never been in better condition.
 
or you could use a vaporizer or eat weed brownies, which = delicious and takes away the smoke aspect. Although you do need a ton of bud for that.

Weed only makes you stupid if you smoke a lot nearly every day. THATS WHY YOU DONT SMOKE A LOT EVERY DAY. God it isnt rocket science. Even then, I know people who smoke every day and they don't become stupid. It depends on the person.

Come to think of it, I only know like 2 kids who are stupid because of smoking. And thats only because they keep doing excessive amounts every day. They both stopped for a month once and they were back to normal.

Smoking it in moderation won't make you stupid. It is NOT equivalent to even 1 cigarrette. There isnt tar, carbon monoxide, or other harmful chemicals. Whether or not THC is a harmful chemical is up for debate. It seems hundreds of scientists make "new discoveries" about it every day. Most of these are fabricated.

McDonalds is WAY worse for you. What the hell are you talking about? It messes with your cardiovascular endurence, it clogs your arteries, it makes you fat. Did you know that once you grow fat cells, you can never lose them? you can only make them thinner, but you will never lose them. Not to mention I'm sure all that grease has dozens of other horrible effects that I don't know about. Ask any doctor. Watch Supersize Me. He did that for however long and it seriously fucked up his body. I don't see that sort of thing happening to weed smokers.

If it fucks with athletic performence, then explain why Tanner, Crichton, and many other to-be-unamed skiers still kill it?

Your arguement is based on government-funded commericials that target kids like you. You are their bitch. you are the exact kind of kid they target. Maybe I mis-read and meant 2 joints = 1 pack, all the sites I look at now say it was 1 joint is the equivilant of 5 cigarettes. Even still, their is 12 cigarettes in 1 pack, I don't know what brand you buy that gives you 25 each pack buddy. Most people don't smoke weed through a water filter, most people roll it up in paper and smoke it.
