Weed cuts lung cancer tumors in half

.....

they found out a long time ago it doesnt cause lung cancer bro.

and i dont know if this particular news is new but they've known it decreases your chances in getting lung cancer for a while too

Plus, there are obviously pros and cons to pretty much anything. The fact that weed plays a role in some car crashes does nothing to decrease the importance of this finding.

That video shows practically NOTHING. It's proven that weed slows reaction time by a huge percentage, whcih in the real world of driving, when things are happening fast, is dangerous.

And I'd like to add this..

Marijuana has a number of side effects. New users, people using in a new setting, or individuals using marijuana with a high THC level, may experience acute anxiety or have paranoid thoughts. Marijuana causes difficulty with short-term memory. It also tends to distort perceptions, and slows reaction time.

Because of these side effects, there are serious indirect risks associated with marijuana use--often worse than the direct side effects. Users are at particularly high risk for automobile accidents and unsafe sex. In one study at a shock-trauma unit, 15% of patients who were involved in traffic accidents had been smoking marijuana, and an additional 17% had both THC and alcohol in their bloodstream. Also, students may have difficulty studying and learning, and athletic performance may be negatively affected.

There appear to be long-term effects to marijuana use as well. Studies suggest that marijuana is linked to cancer, much as cigarette smoking. Marijuana also may affect the immune system and cause similar respiratory problems to cigarette smoking. Heavy use of marijuana affects production of both male and female hormones. In males, changes in hormone production may cause delay of puberty and decrease in sperm production. In females, changes in hormone production may cause disruption of the menstrual cycle and discharge of eggs from ovaries. In pregnant women, marijuana also appears to harm the developing fetus. Some studies have found that babies of marijuana users were shorter, weighed less, and had smaller head sizes than babies of non-users. Other studies have found that babies born to users have symptoms resembling fetal alchol syndrome, and possibly nervous sytem problems

driving high isnt hard, people are stupid, if no ones being dumb in the car/ if your alone and high, there should be no problem unless your one of those people that nature decides to weed out, aka natural selection.

Right, so that's what you tell the family members of somebody who got killed by a driver who was under the influence of weed, gotcha.

yeah, how many people get in accidents when theyre high, its probably not even because they are high, all the cops have to do is say its because of them being high... accidents happen all the time, its just when marijuana is involved its the "primary cause"

drive high, then go back talk me woman, its not hard.

weeds got less tar and bad shit than cigs do...

the U.S. is gay...why dont they just go ahead and leagalize it already!!

its safer than alcohol and the US would be bankin if they figure out a way to tax it

seriously leagize it already

oh well we still got salvia

You do know you copied and pasted facts from the most biased organization in the world. They will never admit when they're wrong. I couldn't tell you the last time I heard someone get in an accident because they were high. I've heard of hundreds of alcohol related accidents though.

Ok, so if we're going with government information, heres an interesting tidbit from the NH DWI website:
  1. Over 50% of all fatal highway crashes involving two or more cars are alcohol related.
  2. Over 65% of all fatal single car crashes are alcohol related

So, it seems pretty reasonable to surmise that people with THC in their system are far less likely to drive drunk, which is undeniably a far more serious problem than weed. Plus, driving while overly tired has been proven to be equally as bad as driving drunk, and is now illegal in some states. While I definitely don't advocate driving high, it's ludicrous to make such a fuss over it when there are so many much more serious forms of impairment.

Alright, let me tear this up... Ahem.

It doesn't matter what they find in their system, 1 beer can put alchohol in you like smoking weed a week ago will put THC in you. I'd like to add, drinking alchohol is LEGAL because just drinking casually won't affect your overall motor skills. Smoking a joint will automatically decrease your reaction time, short-term memory, even paronoia for begginers. Now, I'm not making light of drinking and driving, but understand that BOTH drinking and driving aswell as smoking weed are ILLEGAL, therefore there is no comparison. Anybody would agree that the less drunk drivers the better, the last thing we need is drunk drivers, aswell as drivers under the influence of marijuana.

yeah, i dont know who to listen to, because theres the gov who are extremely - and then theres that other bunch of people who are extremely +, its probably just easiest to take what ever they say and make it a little better/worse...

the only thing i can say is from experience marijuana is nothing like alcohol ( obviously ) and it is not as impairing as things such as nose spray, alcohol, huffing paint ( 18+ ).. etc.

you are an idiot its something like 117 people have died the past year in marijuana related crashes. ask yourself this how many people do you know that have died due to a marijuana related accident then ask yourself how many people do you that have had or have cancer.

It must be pretty fuckin' hard to call a car crash directed related to Weed, isn't it? Nobody in my family has died from any car crash, or from cancer. Frankly it pisses me off that you would even say just because I've been blessed to not have to deal with either of those it's not a big deal

gava, your an idiot.... Weed was proven to not only decrease risks of lung cancer, but be able to actually cut the tumors in half, like the thread stated. As mentioned, it is safer for your lungs from extra carcinogens to orally injest weed, but still has the same effect. Go smoke a joint and try driving, your much more concentrated. Don't even say i can't learn when high. I concentrate more and are more accaurate with my data. shut the fuck up, stop being the bitch that snitches and calls teh cops for a couple kids smokin a bowl in the woods and get your facts straight

There appear to be long-term effects to marijuana use as well. Studies suggest that marijuana is linked to cancer, much as cigarette smoking. Marijuana also may affect the immune system and cause similar respiratory problems to cigarette smoking.

The U.S. Dept. of Health has provided me with the facts, and I'm not a snitch.

^ actually, those facts are wrong. The only proven effect from long term, extremely frquent marijuana use is the slightest chance at bronchitis (sp check). I know a fair amount about weed, keep trying me.

If anyone hasn't seen the movie Reefer Madness, this is a perfect plot summary.

funny that said video was produced by the us department of health...

you're right! i smoked My sElF REtARdED

FUCK ME I SHOULDNT GO TO COLLEGE NEXT YEAR ITS JUST FEEDING THE MAN MORE MONEY IM GONNA GO START A GROW OP IN BC

PEACE

i quit smoking weed after 4/20 and i love it. no more wanting to do it, no more wasting my money, and no more fogeting shit. when i was all pro-marijuana i was like fuck yeah it doesnt make you dumber im doing better in math!! which i was but that was from studying and i really did forget a lot of shit while i was smoking only like 3 times a week. it does fuck you up, no matter what anyone else tells you. its not good for you, and health isnt even as bad its just stupid. you waste all of your money on it, girls dont like you cause youre a fucking pothead, and it wastes time when you could be doing better shit. fucking best decision ive made to quit.

^i'm glad your happy with your decision. From my experiances, which could be coincendential....

1. The quarter i smoked the most, my grades were amazing

2. Next quarter i cut down for various reasons, my grades had dropped

haha thanks. i have to admit though i do get an urge every once and a while and am just like damn this situation would be much better if i was high. especially when im at parties and my old dealer rolls up and offers me to match him blunt for blunt for free, but so far so good lol

That is a retarded argument. I had to write a paper contrasting two viewpoints on the effects of marijuana, and this is the government's idea, which contrasts with all non-government funded scientific and medical research. Your first statistic relies on marijuana being detected in the persons body. That is like the completely true statistic that 15,000 marijuana related accidents happened last year in the D.C. area. What bullshit statistics from the government DON't tell you is that for an accident to be marijuana related, they must simply fail a drug test, not currently be stoned. So, that 15% percent of the people could have smoked a month before their accident. And, the reason that tobacco smoke causes cancer is because there are slightly radioactive compounds in the tar from tobacco smoke. Notice how all of your arguments say "some studies"? Doesn't that imply that there are many studies that come to a different conclusion? Somebody has probably already shown you what a moron you are, but I can't finish the thread after reading such blatant lies.

I smoke daily. I started smoking this year in school. It was my best year ever and I was a junior. I've never studied in my life and never will. I pay attention in class and do well on tests. I also used a rewards system this year because I never felt like doing homework so I would do the work and smoke when I finished it. I don't consider it a waste of money. If a girl calls me out on smoking I ask them if they drink and usually they say yea but it's not as bad as smoking. I know then that they are not someone I want to be around. I've also become more social and more comfortable with my life.

haha, i dont smoke often at all, max once a weekend, but i usually go every 2 weeks or so. I buy small amounts of bud, and not often at all. I've prolly bought 6 times in the past year. I never really get urges, just if the times right its fun. I dont think i'd like to be high 6 ttimes a week, being high for 36 hours straight was fun, but i like to keep the times apart. Also, my tollerance is mini to none. haha

yeah see that is good how you buy in small amounts. i would buy like an oz. per week and split it with my buddy, cause i always smoked with him. we would be like shit this will last like a month. but like i said only lasted a week. but when we smoked we smoke a good 2 grams a piece...i still like talking about weed though lol

sorta the same wiht me. My closest girl friends smoke every now and then. My other friends dont mind that i do it. The only people that dont like me because i smoke are the people that know absolutly nothing about weed and listen to everything the govt tells us. I choose to associate with people that know what they are talking about, if you dont like me bc i smoke weed once in a while, then good for you, i dont care

If you read any of my other posts, you'd know that I don't give a shit about that 15% car accidents have traces of weed, I've said it before. Yes, I understand the article says "some studies", but there are many different outcomes for an experiment. Maybe some were inconclusive? maybe some experiments found good use for weed? (I'm aware there is good uses, but not to get high and have fun with it). I don't really doubt the credibility of a legit article from the U.S. Dept. of Health, especially if they say their studies suggest smoking weed is linked to cancer, and that smoking weed may produce similar problems such as cigerette smoking (which wouldn't be un-natural, considering both cigerettes and weed is pumping your body full of smoke).

Call this argument retarded, I'm not here trying to be an official know-it-all about weed, I just do my research and try to justify my reasoning as best I can.

You might be surprised to learn that marijuana contains the same cancer-causing chemicals as tobacco, and at higher concentrations. Smoking five joints a week is the equivalent of smoking an entire pack of cigarettes every day which, even in the short term, leads to lung and respiratory problems-wheezing, frequent chest colds and-yick!-a nasty phlegmmy cough. Long-term use increases the chances of tissue damage and lung cancer, and also causes changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term use of cocaine and heroin.

I thought this was interesting:

Several studies have linked marijuana use with poor school performance. It's harder to concentrate and retain information when you've been using pot, and every day of school is important to teens in their peak learning years. It should be no surprise that the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse found teens with a "D" average or below more than four times as likely to have used marijuana in the last year than those with an "A" average. You're more likely to drop out - or get kicked out - of school, or out of sports or other activities if you smoke marijuana.

Ok, now I'll post some info supporting weed:

Memory

Marijuana does impair short-term memory, but only during intoxication. Although the authoritative studies on marijuana use seem to agree that there is no residual impairment following intoxication, persistent impairment of short-term memory has been noted in chronic marijuana smokers, up to 6 and 12 weeks following abstinence

Marijuana Overdose

There is no existing evidence of anyone dying of a marijuana overdose. Tests performed on mice have shown that the ratio of cannabinoids (the chemicals in marijuana that make you high) necessary for overdose to the amount necessary for intoxication is 40,000:1.

For comparison's sake, that ratio for alcohol is generally between 4:1 and 10:1. Alcohol overdoses claim approximately 5,000 casualties yearly, but marijuana overdoses kill no one as far as any official reports.

Now, to be fair, I have to critisize both articles. The credibility and accuracy of the paragraph on low school grades is questionable, considering all the kids who might lie about it. However, it's proven that they have found the same cancer causing agents as in tobacco.

In the supporting weed articles, the amount of weed needed to overdose is insignificant considering it's the side affects, aswell as some cancer causing agents that will harm you. On paper, saying that weed has 0 deaths sounds great, but you have to consider how hard it is to judge a death as marijuana-provoked.

Ok, I'll bring out the %15 fact on this one. If weed is found in %15 of car crashes, then surely some % of them occured when the person was stoned.

yeeeeeee thats why you smoke that shit

and the article didnt say smoking weed would not cuase cancer... cuase it will, but the THC in the weed is a good anti cancer thing.

maybe it balences out

i barely read this thread

im getting kind of sick of people justifying smoking weed

if you smoke weed, thats cool

if you dont, thats cool too.

just be responsible, and there will be no problems.

the government is fucked up, and they lie to us, this doesnt surprise me at all..... and another thing, no one has ever died directly from smoking bud
