Weber State?

So im looking into colleges in Utah and i have heard a lot about U of U and Utah State but nothing about Weber. Whats the campus and people like? how about the slopes? where does everyone go and such?

Im coming out from Seattle this summer to check schools out and need to it down to a few schools.

Its a nice campus on the bench in ogden. if you are looking for a cheep place to go to college and get a good education this is it. Snobasin is on the oposite side of the moutian from weber state and powder is about 30 minutes away. Any where else is about 1 hour to an hour 20 away.

^ what he said, its also the least expensive legitimate ski college in the state. Watch pretty much any ski film within the last 8 years and you'll see some footage of Weber or Ogden in the video. The fair warning the Math Department is a nightmare. Theres not really a social scene, if you're looking for parties you gotta know people, its just really laid back. The U there are actually parties to go to. Powder also has a super fun park, and basins is getting better every year. if you want to avoid high tuition and lift lines WSU is prime.

Thanks, sounds like a chill college. Whats the food and dorms like? or do people mainly live off campus? are there ski busses or is it pretty easy to hook up rides?

My buddy goes to weber for summer classes.. sounds like a chill place. what are your grades like though? cause the u gave me a massive scholarship and now im 25 min from snowbird and alta. s-basin was dope but think about the u.

Not the best. overall GPA is 3.121 but Junior year i got a 3.5 in all IB classes(which are simular to AP) and SAT- 1520 ACT-22 which are not that great.

Most people I've met that went to weber pretty quickly decided they made a bad choice and wished they were at the U or westminster.

For sure a chill school, but I wouldn't ever think to choose it over the U if I was trying to school in Utah.

those aren't too bad. You may be able to get some money for your first year but then after that you can pay resident tuition if you plan shizz out and its way cheap. Thats what Im working on right now cause im from MN. The U is pretty sick so if you can work it out, go here. Or like he said, westminster

its decently simple. gotta get yourself taken off your parents taxes, get your car registered here, get voter registration and license, and then you cant be out of the state a ton so you would have to stay here over a summer. Then you just apply through the school. you could get a job to show your here or mail or take classes. They give you the run down at the U. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions

Don't waste money getting your generals at the U get them at Weber for half the price, all while you are getting your residency. most people live off campus, rent is pretty cheap in Ogden. decent one bedroom apts for $500 including utilities.

That makes sense. Don't you want to not become a resident if your parents are helping pay for college because it goes on their taxes? My parents are going to help me a bit so the whole becoming a residence thing isnt going to happen probably.

Dude seriously dont go to Weber. You will regret it. Go to the U. My girl friend goes there and she says everyone is a commuter and mormon, ogden as a city blows, and its really hard to make friends.

I go to Weber, its alright, not as nice as living in SLC and going to the U but the tuition is fairly cheap and renting a place is cheap too. However dont live in the dorms, its a total rip off and you cannot drink, although people try. It is also true that it being a commuter school makes the social life shitty at times, but you just need to get involved and you will make friends pretty quickly as everyone is pretty chill here. As you are a skier you will probably find plenty of people to hang with and catch rides with to the closer places like basin and powder ones down by SLC.

Oh.. and the campus food is expensive and it sucks balls, screw the dorms and their meal plan. Save money and eat better by getting a place of campus, preferably within walking or biking distance as parking tends to be a hassle in the morning hours.

So basically just go there for the low tuition but live off campus. Sounds good. I'll be there on thursday or friday this week checking it out along with the U of Utah! Can't wait! Thanks for the info!

or pay less for housing and school and do your generals at salt lake community, and not have to live in ogden

After visiting Weber today I think im going to go there for the low tuition and how close it is to the slopes. Then i'll probably go to PC and such on weekends. Im going to use its low tuition to get Utah residency so that I can transfer to the U for in state tuition. But other wise I really liked Weber, but SLC would be even better.

you really should just go to the U, weber sucks, ogdan sucks its not close to the good skiing and there is no way its cheaper than SLCC.

Yeah I've got that beat easily I'm curious about the standards to get a really good scholarship though

Ogdens only a bad town if ur some one who needs to rage and get plastered every night. Indoor skydiving, indoor surfing, huge indoor climbing gym, two indoor skate parks, Jibbing on snow every weekend in the summer, trampoline gym with cheap open gym nights, two lakes with in 15 minutes, powder mountain with in 30 minutes which has the chillest scene in Utah, with a fun playful park and really cheap cat skiing, along with decently priced helli skiing. Snowbasin is within 20 minutes and has a 22 foot half pipe(cut by SPT) compareable to park citys, and has a good park which has doubled in size each year for the past three seasons, Snowbasin also has terrain comparable to the bird and alta along with u will be the only one in the park the majority of the time becuase no one rides park there, which is nice cause at park city some one is always hot on ur tails.

Sounds like I am making the right decision to go to Weber then, even if I just go for 2 years and transfer. Do you go there?

all of those actives you just posted cost mad money and don't even start to compare snowbasins park to PC, its not even close. SLC > ogden any day of the week.

He was comparing the pipes not the parks. but who rides pipe anyways?

As for the rest, you guys are right the bar scene is a million times better in SLC. Flow riding, and indoor skydiving are pricy for sure. The rest is free or next to free. I hate living in Ogden, but I hate living in Utah. If it wasnt for the skiing and cheap college I'd be gone. the only good things about it are one WSU is a legit college that is not a community college Lets be realistic getting your batchelro. it is also half the price of the U. You can go to Weber until all but your last year of college then go to Oxford or Harvard and guess where your degree says its from? Oxford or Harvard. All while you saved yourself tens of thousands of dollars. Its hard to meet people in Ogden if you're into hype and scenes. Ski at at any of the resorts and actually talk to people and not down on them because they don't have the newest gear, an audi, or a fixie. and you'll have no problem.

The people who ride for the most people aren't into hype and you can join any group, lift lines and park lines are a quarter the size, you just won't have jumps over 40 feet to hit. Converesely you can get to the resort at noon on a powder day and still be riding untracked snow until close. if not into the next day.

Those guys opinions are great and for the most part Valid, however they don't live in Ogden I do, it sucks for sure, but because its in Utah. Weird laws, same customs as pretty much any religious based culture. SLC has most the same problems, its just has more going on to distract you. I don't own a fixie and I hate PBR so maybe I just don't get it. But what I do get is working a full time job, going to school full time and skiing 5 days a week. I do it in Ogden theres no way I could do it in SLC. When winter rolls around if you're looking for the best places to ski stop into Decade and I'll be happy to share the shred.

Im planning on working at snowbasin if i come to weber, how easy is it to get a job up there and how does it work with your class load? and do you still have time to ride?

yea the girl that runs lift operations jessie is chill shes young and understanding you have to work 4 days a week to get the free pass but if you shoose do to school at night you can ride all day and go to class the same night for three days then work and ride your other four

you also can sign out and free ski or take laps at your lift if you are working with cool people and at a sick lift like porky where no one comes

its easy to get a job at basin

-are you competent

-can you pass a single piss test (be aware or randoms carry bleach or fake piss just in case you get fucked up by the chair)

-are you a skier

Yes, plus im gettting my level 1 certification this winter at Crystal Mountain, wa. Yes. and No. haha Im a snowboarder.

how long are the shifts for 4 days a week?

Join the snowboard club, don't live in the dorms, and ride powder mountain. After a few years at weber that is what I have discovered. 27th street is the best trail head. The hot springs at the mouth of the canyon can sketchy as shit. Don't go to the kokomo club, hit up brewskies or kamakazies instead. The pizza runner has the best pizza.

and don't venture into west ogden. . .

GO to UTAH STAAAATTTEEE !!! No i'm just kidding, I ended up there because i'am international and i didn't know when I applied but I've been to Weber to watch some ski movies and the campus is nice IMO, I think Ogden sucks a bit but you have some good resort pretty close. And I agree, you should defenetly live off campus !

Again like everybody else I you can go to the U just go !

Doing the generals and then transferring to the U will most likely cost you 1 or 2 years extra so graduating after 5-6 years of college. Generals and transferring is a good way to stay in college longer.

WHO SKATES INSIDE IN UTAH?!!!?!?!!?!

blasphemy

too many epic concrete parks around the SLC area (and ogden too, hell everywhere in utah) to be wasting your time at indoor parks!
