Wearing 2 pairs of socks??

What are the pros and cons of wearing 2 pairs of socks instead of one under your boots? Why or why not would you guys recommend doing this? Thanks!

The "socks" people wear over their boots are actually called boot gloves. If you search for ski socks you will just find the ones people wear inside their boots. You just want one pair of socks inside your boots. Wearing more socks inside your boots will probably make you colder (counter-intuitive but look it up) so just wear one pair of thin socks. If you still get cold then use boot heaters or get those boot gloves that go over your boots.

If you can wear two pairs of socks and still fit in your ski boots...well fuck.

I've heard it can cause issues with circulation

This. It will hurt your circulation and won't help with warmth. Also, your boots should be tight enough that you only fit one pair of socks underneath, if you are putting two your boots are too loose. Any bootfitter will tell you that. You want your socks as thin as possible. Ski socks are thin, not super thick wool ones.

fuck. I can only fit like one pair of thin to medium socks in my boots. Get some smaller boots dude

Who all actually wears boot gloves, I feel like I will look like and idiot but I could benefit from them since my feet get cold after an hour on 10 degree or below days, most of the time it is windy when it gets that cold too.

Two pairs of socks definitely does more harm then good. Can cause poor circulation making your feet colder. Also makes it a lot more likely for the socks to bunch up and cause irritation.

Two pairs of socks sucks ass haha definitely go with one pair. It'll be warmer and it'll be more responsive... if you feel like you need two pairs of socks to fill volume, your boots are too big...

I saw someone wearing those a few weeks ago but other than that I've never heard of them. Honestly just go for it

Please, Dear God, DONT WEAR TWO PAIRS OF SOCKS. These dumbasses relying dont know. Pros: NONE Cons: You will have circulation issues, and possibly injure yourself. If you have boots that are too big, buy new ones that are correctly fitted, if you have cold feet, ski harder or buys warmer socks, seriously.

oh my god you fucking nerds

wearing two pairs of socks is fine. if his boots fit so tightly he couldnt fit two pairs of SOCKS in there then he wouldnt be asking this question

i wear two pairs of socks all the time with my old packed out boots and believe it or not nothing has exploded and i havent had to have anything amputated

Don't lie to him

pros- none at all

cons- Actually colder feet, because of a decrease in circulation. If that isn't happening to you than wow your boots are huge on your foot and do not fit properly. Also increased chance of injury/sprain/braking something which no one likes!

If you're worrying about how you look instead of how many extra runs you could get in because you don't have to go inside to warm your feet, then you have a problem.

It's not to the point where i have to go inside otherwise i will get frostbite. I will keep skiing and just hike up the hill once to get the warmth back. It makes me want to go in but i will only go if one of my friends wants to. I ski 45 days a year on a 200 ft vertical it isn't the end of the world if I don't get extra runs in anyway. Plus the gloves look like a pain and the strap on the bottom breaks a lot apparently.

They look a bit silly but I've heard they make a decent difference. A few people I've skied with in -30 degrees c weather said it helped a lot.

I used to wear 2 pairs when I forgot to bring my ski socks, but with regular everyday thin socks, not ski socks. If you want to fit two pairs of ski socks in, then yeah you'll have a problem. And ski socks are designed specifically according to pressure points, so you pretty much makes them useless by doubling them.

If you are wearing two pairs of socks because your feet are getting cold then another pair of socks won't help. If you are wearing two pair of socks because your boots don't fit then you need to get some work done on your boots or liners.

If the problem is cold feet there are a few tricks that will work much better than two socks:

1. Take Aspirin on cold days. Aspirin helps with circulation. Humans are warm blooded animals. Your feet are thermoregulated (kept warm) by the flow of warm blood through them. They aren't kept warm by the insulation provided by a porous cotton or wool layer 1/16" thick (socks). Your goal is to get as much warm blood flowing through your feet as possible.

2. Change up your boot set-up. A bad set-up (buckles too tight) can limit circulation and really mess with your feet temp.

3. Do more cardiovascular exercise. Your circulation is a byproduct of your heart. A stronger heart will help keep you warm.

There is no need to wear two pairs of socks, of op wants to he can do whatever he wants but there ar no advantages to it, it only creates problems such as letting your socks move against one another, preventing circulation, makes you feet even colder and can feel too thick. If op is cold he should get a good pair of ski socks and fire in toe warmer and it will get toasty

funny, the picture you posted is the face I made after reading your comment.

i wore three pairs of socks today for science...if you can believe it, no injuries occurred and my circulation was fine!

I know you geniuses heard from...someone that it'd be a problem, but everyone made it out safely today. OP, I think you'll be okay. But don't tell these suburban soccer moms or they'll be worried sick. And don't swim until 30 minutes after you eat!!! Jesus Christ

you wore three not two so you really didn't answer ops question. theres probably something about 3 socks than cancels the other two socks out and makes it the same as one

Haha fair enough but seriously we're talking about SOCKS...they're, what, a couple millimeters thick? Get a grip. And isn't wearing two pairs of socks SOP for hikers? Gosh, I wonder how they're all surviving out there doing that! Must be a statistical anomaly that ten trillion hikers have gone outside wearing two pairs and made it back in one piece...

This is one of those things that skiers love to parrot cause someone said it to them once but I guarantee no one is ever going to post in this thread telling their tale of the Great Double Sock Incident where something bad happened cause they were wearing two pairs of socks. Is it going to keep you warmer? Idk I think it will but I'm not willing to take a position on that. But I am certain that OP will be *FINE*

Honestly, this is pretty fair, whether the poster tries it or not, just asking for the pros and cons and OP will be fine in the end. Asking about socks isn't like asking "do you recommend trying new inverts without a helmet or any practice?"

The best thing about wearing two pairs is that if you feel like your circulation is starting to go, meaning your feet are feeling numb/tingly, get to the side of the run or lodge and just take off the second pair. You could try two thinner pairs, a pair of thick wool socks might help without wearing two pairs.

I've never tried wearing two pairs, I feel like if your feet are cold cus you're losing circulation, that's the time to go to the boot fitter. If they're cold just cus it's cold as balls out, you could try it, socks are not permanent fixtures, you can remove them at anytime OP. If that cuts off circulation, I'd say try the wool, if that doesn't work, ask a boot shop what else you can do to help stay warm.
