Wear a helmet.

As much as I agree with everything else you're saying, this is completely false. As you also said on your own post, every time you strap on your skis, there is a chance that you could get seriously hurt. Why is this not true for you?

The worst part of it is that, all of these young kids that are watching this and mimic this "steeze" are putting themselves in great danger. Not just for freestyle but for regular skiing too. I don't have enough fingers to count the amount of times I have had my head smashed by other people who lose control and take me out. A few times I've seen people try and stop to late and hit snowboarders in the head. Just imagine what a sharpened edge of a ski is going to do to someone without a helmet. Every time I ski I am always greatful for wearing a helmet, don't ruin your life just because you think that not wearing a helmet is a better look. FYI It's not.

wear a fucking helmet

if you find it uncomfortable, get a comfortable one, obviously

you guys are always complaining about gapers standing on the landings and doing stupid shit, what happens when they actually get in your way and your in the hospital for the rest of the season instead of skiing

when some yeti come flying down out of control and hits you, then what are you gonna say, i thought i was good enough? no nobodys fucking good enough not to wear a helmet

IWILL

Some pro skiers like vanular, delorme, bdog, and many others, who are just that good at skiing that they are comfortable doing tricks without a helmut because they have them on lock. Also stronger skiers like delorme can protect their head in a fall and have good senses when it comes to bailing out of tricks. Op is a fucking loser for thinking everybody needs a helmet. Some people do, but some people DO NOT. Get over yourself op. some people are mire within their comfort zone while skiing than you are.

It's good to see some teenage rage being let out here.

Why don't you try and think a little before you puke your garbage arguments all over this forum. Your argument is so flawed, that I strongly suspect you have problem with cognitive reading and writing.

Or maybe you wrecked your dome skiing without a helmet, and is now what some people call mentally retarded?

You keep amazing me with your snappy comebacks. However, no snappy comeback is gonna hide your stupidity, so you still lose at life.

Pnw snow is called cascade concrete for a reason. Snoqualmie gets rained on and iced over all the time. Just wanted to make that point- but in response to the thread, I wear my helmet on days that I'm feeling ballsy, and beanie when I'm cruisin

wow, people get really offended when you suggest they do something their parents used to make them do out of safety. As for me, i was knocked out cold once racing, switched to freesking 4 years ago and have since been in three crashes that would have hospitalized me if i didn't have a helmet on. for those of you saying "if you're comfortable skiing park and know how to fall you don't need a helmet" my last big fall was doing a trick i could do with my eyes closed, a 270on270 out ON A BOX at 15+ mph when I hit a screw petruding towards the end of the box. Got thrown straight onto my head full scorpion and everything even bent my sternum. Would have been real ugly without a helmet

my afterbang is so prime i forget weekends all the time. Seriously though. wear a helmet, imagine not being able to ski again because you got rocked by a tree or whatever and now you got some serious brain goonies.

One thing we have to remember, is that this also has something to do with the "helmet culture" of especially Snowboard Street movies, but to a certain extent also Ski Street movies.

Basically, there is an unwritten rule within the snowboard community, that you do not get a part in a street movie if you ride with a helmet. I know there are exceptions, but never the less the former is the norm. Apparently it makes it more "legit" to ride without a helmet. I find it stupid, but that's just my opinion, and it is fully up to the riders themselves to decide whether or not they want to wear a helmet.

However, it is problematic that there is a certain amount of pressure from the industry not to wear a helmet. This is unfortunate, but I guess it is part of the game. Taking risks and doing crazy stuff is what gives snowboarding and skiing it's allure, and I guess that doing it without a helmet adds to that allure. But it seems the athletes risk quite a lot without adequate compensation (pay).

I find that quite unfair, that there is pressure to ride without a helmet, but not the adequate financial incentive to do so. At the end of the day, maybe that is at the core of "extreme" sports, the willingness to do it, just because you can, not because it's gonna make you rich.

This was kinda incoherent and ranty, but I can't help but feel that all of this ties into the arguments for and against wearing helmets.

its so sad when you see people that have seriously hurt themselves skiing and cant ski or even do their day to day activities normally ever again. I would never want anything to happen to me or any of my friends so i wear a helmet although it is a choice so do whatever you want but youve got to think about long term repurcusions.

A helmet has saved my life 3 times now, all of which I was hospitalised for and I'm sure saved me from various other head injuries from ski incidents.

And to the people saying "I know my limits, I won't crash" it's not a matter of you crashing, people can just as easily crash into you. A gaper crashed into my friend and put them both into a tree and he was in a coma for a month. He was borderline national team for ski racing so he knew how to ski.

a helmet saved my life this year in the backcountry. not only do i always wear one, but now i wear a full face one. so what if people think it looks dumb. i ski because i enjoy doing it. and i wear a helmet to ensure that i can do it for years to come. i agree completly with the op. shit happens, be prepared, wear a helmet. best fucking decision i ever made

haha, nice job

seriously. literally noone knows for sure how many concussions are enough to seriously increase likelihood of neural damage.

look up at how much more likely former NFL players are to suffer alzheimers (i think it was 3-6 times more likely). that doesnt mean that the average skier will be hit as often as a professional football player, but noone knows if 5 small ones (probably all of us had a few of those, minor headache, seeing stars, ...) or 1 solid black out is enough to become a problem 50 years down the road. maybe 20 small ones are worse than 3 big ones, or 1 major one is enough to damage your brain. long term studies are not available.

i wouldnt call myself a badass who risks anything all the time and always stay (also because i chicken out) probably a solid 20% below my potential just to allow for a safety net. mind that i do freeskiing since around 2003. and yet i blacked out two times completely (2-10 minutes) on overshoots and have seen stars on at least 6-7 other ocassions. idk how this will pan out in the future but i for sure wont do shit without a helmet.
