Wear a helmet.

There is no reason not to wear a helmet.

Just this season my helmet has saved me from concussions or worse multiple times.

In Feb I was going fairly quick through the woods with a buddy when I came across a thin patch. Jumped to avoid it, looked up and realized there was a tree in the way. My head hit it first, then my chest, knocked the wind out of me. NIce dent in my helmet, but I'm okay because of the helmet.

Or don't wear it, your choice. Let evolution do its work.

lol this

but yeah i always wear one. lost my last one when i caught an edge on a landing and whip'd my head pretty hard on an icy section. Split the helmet and left me puking for 3 days

I've been hospitalized for a concussion 3 times and each time they've gotten worse... I'd rather put it on everyday than not be able to ski

To each is own, but I don't really see the point of no helmet

safety>comfort and image

Skiing without a helmet is freeing and so much fun. The best part about it is it doesn't affect anyone else, so shut up man. I don't hate on you for wearing a helmet, so don't hate on me for not. But in all seriousness I think shots look better without a helmet on even if that is an ignorant attitude. Stop hating homie.

Could everyone please check these out. If you're not into wearing helmets at least think about investing in either this product or the other unequal products on their website. I've had two close friends have to quit their dreams of being pro skiers this year because of concussions and it's something I would never want anyone else to go through. They were even wearing helmets so I can't even imagine how bad it could've been if they weren't.

actually i disagree. i have been knocked out (while wearing a helmet) and put a huge crack in my helmet while skiing rails but have only hit my head a few times on jumps and never bad. im not saying its easier to hit your head on rails than it is on jumps but i think its still pretty easy to get a good knock in the head while riding a rail.

hitting your head fucking sucks

it hurts, even at low speeds with a helmet, that's why i always wear a helmet, i have had plenty of hits to my head whilst wearing a helmet and been fine aside from a 5 minute headache that i know would have been really fucking serious without one.

i like being alive and able.

Wear a helmet! Safety > comfort

Once I was on a chair lift with my brother and just as we were about to get off the lift stopped and that thing you have your feet on falls down and hits my head and I get a concussion... And I was even wearing a helmet. Could have been pretty bad if I weren't!

Fully agree with you man, it's an essential for skiing in the terrain park. Unfortunately, Darwinism tends to rear its head in the most ugly of ways.

this is hilarious. as a comparison, the "safer" the helmet in football and the more protection they wear the more injuries there are. so when kids grow up wearing a helmet because it makes them "safer" the more head injuries we will have. its a false sense of security. thats why the older gen doesnt wear them. we didnt wear them but we have always understood the dangers that were present. look at candide thovex. even in x games back when he was boosting 20 ft he didnt wear a helmet even though the rest were. he understood his limits. kids these days dont. fact.

this...

to all you "we know life, know the dangers of the sport"-25-years-old guys... why NOT wear one? there are steezy ones outthere, comfortable ones... I dunno I barely feel mine and I don't think it looks much better without. you can even do it like I do, pull your hood over your helmet. looks cool for me, I know many don't like it yet I like it...

seriously, this whole "gre up without, know what you're doing, learn how to fall" shit fucking annoys me. so if you accidentally fall on your head because you caught an edge on the takeoff you want to tell me I better should have learned not to catch an edge or fall on my head? what kind of bullshit logic is this.

it IS part of the sport, accidents happen. wear protection!

i understand that with a certain amount of control and respect, one can avoid a lot of dangers. but in general, skiing park is dangerous and you can always catch an edge on a rail or on the lip of a 60ftr and shit goes completely down the shitter.

"knowing how to fall" is also a poor excuse because there are dozens of potential cases where shit hits the fan so fast that you cant do anything about it. and if you hit bigger kickers, you cannot counter the HUGE forces affecting the neck and stop youre head from hitting the snow.

there is also the problem with kids suddenly going too hard when wearing a helmet, but thats in general the lesser problem. over here in europe, i would say that 80-90% of skiers (ALL skiers on the mountain and close to 100% of park skiers) wear a helmet. there was a public case where a politician wearing a helmet collided with a woman who wasnt wearing one and she died. since then, helmets have become the standard.

and i am one of those "old" guys, 24. skiing since 20 years, freeskiing probably since 2003 or so. i also say that i know whats up and that i can control myself. BUT i also blacked out two times on overshoots and saw legit stars roughly 10 times, even on BC booters or on the rideaway from a rail, even when wearing a helmet. concussions aint nothing to fuck with and it needs just one unlucky moment to change your life.

ACL tear? really no problem in the big picture. broken leg? easy. dislocated shoulder? a few weeks break and thats it. BUT you only have one head and every (slight) concussion can seriously fuck with your EVERYDAY LIFE 20-50 years down the road. same with your spine. wear a backprotector.

i know a lot of you smell socialist and communist in every corner but i seriously think that helmets should be mandatory, especially for kids.

so feeling this. thought about it lots of times. no helmets, no ski pass. simple as that.

and if you don't bring your own, you get one rental in addition to your ski ticket... something like this.

it's sometimes sad that you can't call on the common sense of people...truly sad..

I had a gnarly crash 2 years ago and got a TBI i lost all memory from when before my injury and lost my short term memory making school next to impossible. i was wearing a helmet when it happened. now 2 years later after huge amounts of therapy and work my memory is improving if i wasnt wearing a helmet i would have died. anyone who tries to argue that wearing a helmet is an option and that fashion is better then function in this particular ssituation is wrong. i know enough people who have messed themselves up from concussions that i think its dumb for kids to not wear helmets. sure it can look good but i think that far more then looks, saftey is more important.

You are so stupid, The reason so many head injuries happen in football is because everyone is wearing pads so everyone tackles each other at 100%. There is no tackling done skiing So Helmets are just there for when you fall on yourself which is safer. That picture I posted before was taken on a 10 foot jump, And I spent the last two years skiing freeway in Breckenridge Colorado which are 60+ foot jumps.

So you may not feel like you need one on a daily basis or rarely ever, but that one time you do you'll be so glad you were wearing it. Take it from a kid who spend a couple days in the hospital with a hairline fracture in his skull. Head injuries are not something you want to fuck around with. I promise.

Saga Outerwear athletes are the guilty party for starting this trend. Anyone ever see a saga athlete with a helmet?

I always think i look so much cooler without my helmet... until i remember all it takes is a caught edge for me to go down, so i always were it, i will admit i did neglect it alittle at the end of the season, which when looking back was stupid.

my friend passed away after a head injury sustained while hitting urban...pretty serious business...

for anyone that says they didnt grow up wearing helmets so why would they wear them now, take a look at the majority of 40 year old + skiers and boarders on the mountain now a days who are wearing helmets. they sure as hell didnt have the thought to wear one 20 years ago, but they're smart enough to wear ones today...

head injuries are the #1 cause of death for people under 30...ACCIDENTS are a bitch.

rip will.

I agree. Just wear a damn helmet. It may not be comfy but neither is sitting around while you have a concussion and everyone else is riding

No you don't.

I actually like park rats not wearing helmets, it's natural selection at it's finest. In reality I think you should be forced to NOT wear a helmet if you're wearing a tall tee. Then only make these rats ride super sketchy rails.

People who say they "know how to land" are literally THE dumbest skiers I've ever heard. Actually I take that back, you might know "how to land" if you're skiing 5mph on a green. If you're actually pushing yourself then NO you don't know how to land.

The reason no one was getting cuncussions years ago was because more often than not they went undiagnosed. Only recently do people actually check for concussions and realize that they can actually cause lasting damage.

Hey man, you don't know me! Anytime you feel like coming down off that high horse of yours i would love for you to teach me how to ski because I've only ever been on dry slope I guess. Thnx dude

Watch "moving forward from a traumatic brain injury" I thought helmets were the gayest shit ever, than I watched that. I'd never even ridden park at that point. It will change your point of view on helmets.

The issue here isn't people who choose to not wear a helmet.

My parents forced me to wear a helmet until I was 16, and if they hadn't, I probably wouldn't have worn one.

It's about the kids who are coming into the scene looking at what the people who are good at skiing are doing, and copying them--which only makes sense if you are trying to get better at something. Except that skiing without a helmet is more dangerous than skiing with a helmet

yeah, social darwinism would argue, if you don't wear one, and you die because of that, tough shit. Sometimes smart style ain't steezy, but sometimes there are dudes who OG disregard for thier dome and don't die. Thats gangster.

I protect my head, cause, i ain't the illest.

If i plan the ski groomers i wouldnt wear a helmet, but for everything else i always do. I started skiing when i was 8 and never wore a helmet because i didnt ski park but i always thought they were for pussies. But during my first year in the park i decided it would be best if i wore one. Looking back, it seems like a pretty responsible choice i made when i was like 11or something

Mind your own god damn business, I don't give a fuck if you go no poles, where dresses, and generally abstain from learning how to make a decent turn. You got a lot of nerve telling me what I should be wearing on the hill. I've been at this since before you we're born. And. stop making this thread every other week.

the fuck does wearing a tall tee have to do with anything? i wear a tall tee and a helmet...gtfo

wear what you want but imo it just takes one super nasty slam to change your mind about a helmet, might be too late then but w/e not my problem.

you do you, ima do me

I knocked myself clear out this year wearing a helmet. Slammed my face into an ice wall deal. Maybe I should wear a mask too... Always wear a helmet though except on the up in the bc.
