On my 21st bday I just saw my neighbor die on weds in the middle of the street. He was only 17 years old. He fell off his longboard and cracked his skull. Brain fluid everywhere. Most gruesome thing I have ever seen and probably ever will. No mother should have to bury her son. If he was wearing a helmet it would've been a minor concussion....... think about that for a bit

wearing a helmet might not have helped at all. what if he had taken the extra time to grab his helmet, which then led to a different turn of events and he got hit by a car? then someone would have said, hey you shouldn't ride a bike in the road instead of hey you should wear a helmet.

forget about that shit, just rejoice in how great of a kid he was. thats what he would have wanted.

 
Damn, sorry to hear about that. I don't get why people these days refuse to wear helmets. I mean, if you're trying a stunt like holding onto the back of a car while you're on a longboard, you should definitely be wearing a helmet. What's not cool about that? No one is gonna laugh at you for wearing a helmet during a stunt like that. Sure, I understand kids not wanting to wear helmets when they're riding their bike around the corner but use some common sense when trying anything crazy.

Yeah man that stuff happens more often than you think. I ride motorcycles and I was with a group of guys riding one day. We came over the crest of a hill and a deer was standing in the middle of the road. The one guy tried to swerve around him but the deer jumped and kicked him while he was going past and it sent him flying off the bike...he wasnt wearing a helmet. Luckily he didnt die or anything, but lets just say his face hit the pavement first and I saw his jaw bones and teeth. Not a pretty site

you know what, you are right, they arent. If you look at my last skiing pic at mammoth u will see that I'm not wearing a helmet. That was the first AND last time I will be caught going off jumps without a helmet.

I think agree that the pros should set examples and wear a helmet, cause it seems that all the kiddies on here do whatever they do.

yeah... I guess they deleted my post, but fucking around without helmets on motorbikes is stupid as hell. I have an old vespa, which doesn't go all that fast compared to most bikes, but I could still end up with my brains scattered across the road if i decided to go no-helmet.

I guess a helmet won't save you every time either, though....

And an even better idea: DO NOT HOLD ON TO THE BACK OF CARS WHILE STANDING ON A SKATEBOARD. IT'S DANGEROUS, STUPID, AND IS MUCH MORE LIKELY TO SERIOUSLY INJURE/KILL YOU THAN JUST SKATING AROUND LIKE MOST PEOPLE DO.

I know you're still very busy grieving your loss, but your friend died doing something that is completely unlike any kind of normal, everyday skateboarding, and doing something that was very, very dumb. There's risk taking, and then there's STUPID risk taking, and this situation shows everyone the downside of STUPID risk taking.

I wish people would think more logically about shit like this. Not wearing a helmet may have resulted in his head hitting the pavement and the impact killing him, but none of this would have happened if he hadn't of been "skitching" on the back of a car, which is where the real problem lies.

The internet is for slandering others anonymously.

 
dude, that sucks about your friend...ignore any of the ignorant immature posts some of the people are putting up. There is a reason why helmets are mandatory in almost every extreme sporting event now...like seatbelts, there is enough research to support the fact that helmets do help...which is why in many terrain parks, skateparks, bike parks it's mandatory to wear a helmet...whose to say whether a helmet would have helped your friend or not, but wearing one is definitely not gonna hurt ya.

Well, I don't see whats so wrong with skitching, its not that dangerous, and its really handy to get towes up the road like that. I need to start wearing a helmet longboarding. My friend fucked himself on this crazy run at the college we live by. He now wears a helmet whenever we go longboarding, and I don't blame him. If you are gunna longboard at speeds faster than like 20 mph, than defenently get a helmet, because you can't run out anything much faster than that.

I always rock a helmet when i'm out riding on my bike. I don't care what people think, I know that a helmet has saved my life 3 times in the past, so i'm not taking the risk.

 
i totally agree. i mean sure helmets may not be the "cool thing" but looking at some of the helmets companies are producing now-a-days (sp?) some of them are really sick. 2 years ago i broke my back hitting some jumps in montana. if i wasnt wearing a helmet when i crashed i would have had a serious concussion or worse. i mean, if i know im not gonna be hitting huge jumps on a day, just riding around, i probably wont wear one, but if i know im gonna be hitting big jumps or trying new stuff, i wont go anywhere without my helmet.

Sorry u had to witness that, thats horrible. That kind of accident is so rare... I dont see how that would be possible after only traveling 20 feet. But I think in skiing its kinda dumb not to wear one in the park or bc, so much easier to get seriously hurt in the terrain park, then just some stairs you are sessioning.
