We can't say we've ever heard of a $26 Russian program called

SkyGrabber before, but it's about to get famous real fast -- according

to the Wall Street Journal,

Iraqi insurgents have been regularly using the satellite-snooping

software to monitor live Predator video feeds. Apparently the Predator

transmits video over an unencrypted link, so there's no major hacking

or security breach going on here, but it's obviously a huge issue --

and we'd say the bigger problem is that Pentagon officials have known

about this flaw since the 1990s, but they didn't think insurgents would

figure out how to exploit it. Way to underestimate, guys. The WSJ says

the military is working to encrypt all Predator feeds from Iraq,

Afghanistan, and Pakistan, but it's slow going because the Predator

network is more than a decade old and based on proprietary tech -- too

bad it's not proprietary enough to keep prying eyes out of it.

and no, im not against soldiers in the middle east, trust me, im not.

just because i think stuff like that^^^ is stupid, doesnt mean i think soldiers should be dying, it's ok that they die and its their own fault, or that i don't respect them or what they do for America.

am i alone in thinking this isnt quite as big a deal as the article makes it out to be? they mention no terrible consequences and they of course will fix it now. maybe im missing something but i dont think its thaat weird that the enemy has figured out something to combat our technology in a cheaper way (vietnam for example) and we're responding to it. and isnt the "26 dollar software" part sort of irrelevant, given that 26 USD there is nothing like 26 USD here or other places? someone correct me if im way out of line here

26 USD is nothing in cost for something that can effectively defeat a multi million USD technology.

it will be fixed now, but the fact if was ever dismantled so easily is shocking to say the least.

yeah i agree with that, im just saying it's not THAT big a shock, things like this have happened before, in vietnam we dropped more bombs than we can even imagine but still got held off by dudes in pajamas carrying a bag of rice and an ak47

they control a huge black market of opium and weapons trade, and they are a huge organization. Yea, i think they could spare 26 usd

damn government can invest so much money and manpower into developing a technological marvel such as the predator, but leave it to them to overlook something like that.

its like the story of the 23 million dollar antigravity pen, and the russians just used a pencil. this isnt the first time its happened

you have to sharpen pencils... and they weigh almost an ounce... and we beat the russians yeah 23 million dollar antigravity interior crocodile pen
