There are heaps of debate posts, just look at the non-ski forum, full of 'em
But for rap and hip hop, I think that hip hop has a stronger more dance-to-able beat and rap is different coz it's more about the rythm and the words and not so much about being danced to. Example of rap = some 2pac stuff and hip hop = ice cube's 'put your ass into it'
naw, ice cube is not anything like hip hop. listen to the lyrics of both hip hop and rap. rap is more about killing shit, how many bitches you have, how big your blunt is, how many fourties you drink. i know those are all pretty stereotypical images of rap, but it is the easiest to understand. hip hop is more about a decent message. it is a lot more positive, but doesnt necessarily need to ryhme more
Hip hop is more of a culture. Rap is a style of music. Most rap music is actually both rap and hip hop. Some rap, however, is not hip hop at all (ie Cypress Hill).
Hip hop includes more than just music. It also includes your style of clothes etc.
yeah, westcoast. Ja Rule is def. rap. right now in music, rap is what they play on MTV and its turning more into hard R&B. i think hip hop is more focused on melding rhymes (MCs) and beats (DJs).
I know plenty about the rap/hip-hop music scene. hip hop songs do usually have a stronger beat, a lot of rap songs start out as poems (like tupac did) and don't have as strong of beats. there isn't a fine line between rap and hip hop though
Ja Rule? Ja Rule, nelly and all that other shit isn't rap its fucking pop music. Anyone read that Q-Tip article in the Source or the Yung Wun interview in XXL? They know what up. And like Tip said its all just music man.
Just wondering... where did we get the actual term 'hip-hop?' I think the 'hop' part comes from the 1900-1950s dance styles, hoppin' and boppin' you know..... then it became 'hip' in the eighties, right? When I think hip-hop I think of Vanilla Ice and Criss Cross.

...not really sure the big difference between the two but i think the best hip-hop/rap artist is Busta Rhymes~his style and his music is just awesome~he has the greastest video ever with the huge elephant and the multi-colored aboriginy(sp) type ppl
Busta is the best. I love his video with ODB for the Woo Ha Remix. That was so funny. It was the two of them in a padded room, tied up in a two man stright jacket, and they had crazy joker hats..... it was funny.
i think all rap/hip hop is not music. it only has one tone and no or little change in notes, so i dont classify it as music

there are different kinds of rap, like gansta(daz, kurupt), mainstream garbage, which is hip hop(nelly, ja rule), and other shit. i dont know what to name it(beatnuts, bad azz, mac dre). theres lyrical shit too(hyroglyphics, jurassic five)
hip hop is r&b and weak shit like the mainstream, 'i just want money' rappers
