We are all going to die on april 13 2036 (friday the 13th)

crazy that their is a chance. they suspect it will pass betwen 18,800 and 21,000 miles from earth, but if its any less it will get pulled into our orbit and hit us 7 years later. that would suck

sounds like there are a few realistic options to push it off course, aside form drilling an 800ft hole on it and blowing it in half

Dude. The last time a meteor hit the Earth is now. Now. and Now again. Meteors hit the Earth pretty darn often. An asteroid is another story.

Asteroids have already hit the Earth, i mean, for fuck's sake, the reason there aren't any asteroids that hit us all the time right now is because the earth has already collided with most of them.

A giant asteroid created a giant giant crater off the coast of the Yucatan, and it killed all the dinosaurs. This isnt a first time occurence

 
there was a big special on the discovery science channle about how they are testing it for future threats. the successfully nudged an astroid away from hitting i think it was... mars. really cool stuff, im suprised none of you saw that. it was a few months ago.

anybody else sketched out by the fact that the orbit of the asteroid will last EXACTLY 7 YEARS? No? then go read revelations. That sounds ominous to me... i dunno maybe it's just cause im christian, but that scares me.

no....you shut the fuck up. if you read the article it said that nasa could use a ship that would travel at the asteroid at 5000 miles an hour and it would nudge it off course enough to not make the asteroid a threat anymore

You are a dip shit, in the 60's the Russian made the TSAR bomb, a nuclear weapons that was 50+ megatons. Image a scenario where we detected a asteroid that had 100% chance of hitting us (thank you calculus) and we wanted to blow it up. Easy stuff, we have already proven we can impact a meteor (Deep Impact space Probe). In essence, all we need to do is take a Ariane 5 heavy lift rocket, build a huge nuclear bomb, then hit the asteroid on the side hopefully after months of space travel where the asteroid is millions of miles from earth, it doesn't have to destroy it. Now lets say we only change the course by .0005 of a degree, carry that out on its course of a few million miles; now that asteroid that was once hitting earth misses use by some hundred thousand miles, EARTH SAVED!.
 
asstroids the size of a hose cat up to a small car hit earth something like 10 times per month. as well as space dust traveling near the speed of light hits us 100's of times per day. its not hard to beleive that a big asstroid is coming toward us. especially since weve allready been hit by a big one before.

until you learn about my faith, dont diss it. God cant grant wishes, like a genie or something. God teaches you morals and ways od living life like a good person. He cant grant you wishes or something but he can guide you to what you want. He shows the way, you can chose to listen or not.

God has never showed me morals. My parents did. I must agree that the comandment are the baseline rules of western civilisation, but I just cant believe that god is the answer to all our question. The reason why society progressed is because scientists defied the church during the rennaissance. If it were for the church and believers, we would still smash stones for a living.

I think that most teaching of the church are a recipy for hate. Sexual repression, sexism encouragement and the need for conversion are all sins to me.

Being a good person is not following the bible at every word, its about living life at its fullest, contribute to society and showing respect for yourself and others. Some Christian fundamentalists claim to kill in the name of god, just like the muslim extremists.

 
basically the bible was a best selling novel that was writen. then a cult was formed and obsesed completly with it which eventully became a religion after the cult grew.
