Ways to get lift tickets

Yeah so....

1. With this economy being so terrible right now/gas prices being ridiculous

2. Being 25, and out of college

3. 80 Dollar lift tickets, ridiculous

How the hell does when acquire discounted/cheap/free lift tickets? Other than working at the mtn, a ski shop, or hookups. Does anyone know of any "tricks" so that I do not go on welfare this season?

Its AWESOME that season pass deals in New England are like $1,400 a month.

Sometimes gas stations do those deals where u fill up and for like every 5 fill ups you get a free lift ticket or some shit. Are there any other deals like that out there.

Anything, anyone know of?

I know last year price chopper(super market, not sure if you have them around you) would have a deal where if you got anything else at all then 3 tickets to a few vt mtns were only 150

I havent found any other ways than to make friends that work at a hill. Hookups are the best option. Im in the same boat though... in college with little to no money... I hope I dont go broke this year!

102$ for two days and two nights lodging at keystone late nov. and early dec. check the add in transworlds last issue

Best bet in the Northeast is to find smaller hills and ski there as opposed to the resorts.

Tickets will be much less expensive there.

iv got some tricks to get you skiing for free

1. ski until you get asked for your ticket, pretend you had one on a certain pocket, act confident when going to check and then be like of wtf!! 'you know what dude, I must have lost it on that cliff when I bailed) the guy is always like " oh that sucks..... go to the ticket booth they will give you a new one.

2 . avoid big ski lifts.... use the cheapest oldest lifts with the least people, this way they rarely check

3. you and your friend can split the cost to buy a pass and you go to reception pretending you lost it, pay the 20$ fee which you split with your friend and your pass is dirt cheep.

good luck with using these tricks but I find that in a time of economic crissis you also dont want your station to close down, so paying has its advantages

So you are 25 and out of college and still skiing on the Ice Coast?! Guess they didn't teach you logic in college huh?

Jobs are a fucking DIME A DOZEN this year in Colorado. You don't even have to work for the mountain to get a pass. In places like breck and keystone almost every employer offers a free pass if you work for them.

This will be one of the easiest years to get a job in Colorado ski towns since the visas were restricted and not nearlly as many of the Aussies/Kiwis/Brits/South Africans can work here this year and they are normally 65-70% of the work force.

I'll be working 3-4 days a week and skiing all the rest with the ability to not work at all if my money is right.

Move now.

Stowe is $1409 before 10/24, then it jumps up to $1766 for an unrestricted, adult pass.

Killington/Pico is $1199 by 10/15 then it goes up to $1349 for an adult, unrestricted pass.

Okemo and Stratton are both $1369 by 10/13 then $1469 after for an unrestricted adult and you can ski both mountains with it.

Mt Snow is $949 before 10/13 then $1049 after.

Loon/Sunday River/Sugarloaf is $949 for an adult pass and is good at those three mountains.

The big resorts in New England are all about $1000+ for a seasons. Unless you are a college student, or under 19, you get screwed bigtime for a pass.

The answer is to ski the smaller ski areas that aren't resorts.

Have you considered that despite everyone on this site loving skiing, we may not all be in situations where we want to move to a mountain town out west?

Well no. I think everyone should at least explore their options while young. I grew up in the east, but have no plans of ever moving back. I have tons of love for my roots, but alot more love for skiing!

Who knows. Someday I may move back, but if I do I will never have that feeling of, "What if...." when I am 40 and married with some kids paying a mortgage in some east coast suburb.

go into the lodge and look for empty seats with jackets on them. Then go to the jackets and take the pass off. This is kinda sketchy but its worth a try if you're really desperate

If I caught someone doing that even to a jacket that wasn't mine I'd slash their throat with my ski when they stepped outside (not literally but man that's dirty)

something like 375 here for a season pass, not to hard to deal with,

as for you, show up around lunch and ask people who are leaving if you can clip off their day pass for them and if need be offer them 5 bucks for it, come prepared with your own wire snips to make it easy.

Ill be working at keystone this season, I get a few half price passes. PM me whenever your thinking of going and Ill see what I can do

midweek skiing. if you can get the time off from work. most ec resorts and mtns have real good prices. bromely is something like 39 midweek. i think magic is similar and waterville too. plus no weekend crowds. actually, bromley might be only 60ish on the weekends.

in park city i saw some kid like mid day standing where everyone parks and asking people if he could have their day pass for the rest of the day, i would have given it to him if i didin't have a season pass for suure. Luckly mine was 200 bucks this year in park city resort.

good luck with your strategies though!

some resorts only check at a bottom station. if you hike past that lift or something your good. or with a couple friends and two tickets, you can have two people go up, and one person come down with two tickets, then two more go up etc.

Yes, those are all prices for Adult, non-student season passes with no blackouts or restrictions.

And for those saying that's super expensive for skiing, it is not really that insane when you look at the cost of a large west coast resort.

Aspen - $1769-$2079

Whistler - $1529-$1879

Alta/Snowbird - $1499-$1599

Mammoth - $1675

The large resorts on BOTH coasts are costly for seasons passes and daily tickets, but obviously there are cheaper places to ski on both sides.

I know you said you didn't want to work at a resort or other ideas but in all honesty, get a job at a resort. I know your out of college, but it will save you a lot of money either way! I am in college, I did park and pipe in high school and now im the events coordinator for my mountain. At our mountain, two shifts a week gets you free riding.

1. You get paid

2. Free riding

3. Your money you make pays for gas + some. work like 2 nights a week and ski your ass off on the weekends.

I dont necessarily know if I would want to do that though. The best thing I can think of is try to save up i guess or buy package deals with passes

creighton gets the 'my friends cant ski midweek and i look like them if i cover my face' discount.

you too can finagle one of these, its easy!

warren miller movie. buy the ticket for 20$ get free tickets to smugs, stratton, waterville valley, ski sundown. if your on the east cost. idk if you get deals on the west

What I would do is wait were people exit and ask if you can have there lift ticket, Oh and have somethin to cut there lift ticket off.

Find a community college and ask them what their add/drop period is. I've got friend who're mid-30s and still pull the student pass deal.

There's about a month of overlap where you can grab the embossed letter from the school, get your pass, then drop all the classes w/o owing anything.

You could also try to get in on season pass group discount rates. Make a post on craig's list. You'll get a lot of responses.

If you're skiing at a resort that charged 80-90 dollars for day passes AND 1400 dollars for a seasons pass, then you need to move somewhere that actually has good skiing, i would NOT pay 1400 dollars for a season pass on the east, i would instead save my money and move where skiing is good, then spend money on GOOD skiing.

Don't know about your hill but at mine when you get the ticket replaced it disables the old barcode so when they scan it your friend will get screwed.
