Ways to find shit in snow

so earlier today i had my pvc rail set up at the local junior high that has a small sledding hill. my phone came out of the phone pocket (it wasnt velcrowed securely) some where on the hill, i spent 90 minutes+ looking for it and got some little kids to help. (i told them i would give them 10 bucks if they found it) it is in probably a 200 squaure foot area and is black. i scraped snow off of like 80% of it and was wondering if theres any ways that would help me locate it. it was in a water proof case

i came in here to say recco systems work on skis if you lose them at a resort, but looks like youre going to have to find a metal detector

i dont know anything about metal detectors other than the fact that they produce an alternating magnetic field that gets disrupted when it contacts metal, but i always thought magnets + electronics is a bad idea

would the metal detector ruin the phone?

this right here, minus the metal detector since I highly doubt you;ll be able to detect the amount of metal in the average cellphone with any average metal detector. unless you can get your hands on some really strong one.

yea you obviously can, it just takes a good metal detector.

not this:

i lost mine but i have an iphone, and so do most of my friedns, so we just tracked mine using an app that locates your phone and i found it :)

wait till the snow melts. youl find ipods like easter eggs, and if someone squats in the snow, then youll find shit literally, not sure if thats what umeant...

This thread gave me an idea!

if you ski backcountry, deep pow, and you are not local, you should attach recco transceiver to your skis, so if you wipe out badly, and roll for whole 100 feet, and get up not having an idea whats your name, and wtf are you doing on the hill w/o skis, you should figure out, you have tracking device on each of skis!
