Does anyone know of any ways to move files that are over a gig from one computer to another without buring a dvd? My laptop doesn't have a dvd burner, and i need the file on my other pc. Any suggetions?

get a cheap switch and make yourself a network...then just copy that sucker over

i have a wireless Linksys router(thats how i am connected to the internet) and it also says that i have Local Area Connection, but that it is unplugged....if i were to connect the LAC, then could i move the file?

if you have a combo router/switch (room to connect more then one computer) then you could plug both PCs in...set up shared folders on one machine (provided they are both the same operating system to make it easy, and you have sharing turned on) and just copy the file

If you also get 1 crossover cable and connect it to both computers' nic cards, you can avoid having to use other equipment. But make sure both computers are configuring for file sharing (read windows' help section, it explains it quite well. (Start > help > networking).

You can also just pick up a hub and use straighthrough cat5 cable (it's the standard cable you could buy from any store)

If you have a wireless network already set up between the two, then you should be able to use that also to file share. I believe someone else above explained it.

ummm....no email service will let you send over a gig through the network at once.

Making the pysical connectiong between the 2 computers (whether switch, hub, crossover) isnt the tough part, its actually making sure all the sharing and permissions are turned on with windows...and since he's "noticing I have a Lan COnnection...but it says its Unplugged" I wouldnt expect him to be getting these right off the bat. no offence

You can do it through aim if your computers aren't directly connected, just do it one night while you sleep. Easy if you have them switched together, and pretty quick, over aim is longer.

if its a bunch of files like your music, id do it on a cd, but if its 1 huge ass file, then network

aim doesnt take overnight. i have comcast cable and when i send files over aim i can send it 5mb/s. i have some no name brand router

doing transfers that large on AIM never works for me, it always crashes the program for some reason. and i cant get the sharing to work between my familie's computer and mine. i have folders set up to share on both computers, and they are both connected to the same home network, but they dont show up on each other's network places, nor can i access the shared folders. makes no sense at all.

use ur ipod if you have one?
