Waxxing?

Every time I go skiing I wax my skis. Myself, with a paint stripper thing, that's just a bit warmer than a hairdrier, to melt the wax.

If it makes droplets too much I take something flat and scrape the excess off.

2 coats.

The only thing is when it's really cold the drops(whatevers left of them) slow me down for the first run.

I do it myself about every 10 days of skiing. It makes a big difference for me with all the wet snow we get in Alaska.

just to clarify, because this does seem excessive, I do that for days when I freeride, not doing much park.

If I ski park more I'll probably wax once a week.

anyone who doesnt wax their skis themselves isnt a true skier if you ask me, it's super cheap and easy to learn...shops overcharge wayyyyyy too much, just buy a shitty iron at wal mart and some wax at a shop and get goin! tuning your shit and redoing small base shots isnt hard either...

working in a shop is fun, my shit gets waxed like theres no 2morra, i dunno last year i didnt do it at all just out of laziness and i guess i got used to it or something

probably like once a week, more towards the end of the season when the snows stickier. but make sure to use the right kind of wax for the right type of conditions you'll be skiing in

and yeah, waxing them yourself is super easy, cheaper and kinda fun. my family owns a ski shop so i know how much we overcharge for a reallly simple thing like waxing

like one to two time a week (i ski around 3-4 times a week)...its super helpful and ur ski bases stay in SICK condition

i have 05 foils iv used for 2 summers and 1 winter and pretty much perfect base and any scratches gets filled in and like ur bases become way more durable

u should do it ursefl so cheap to

Every time I go skiing. One hot scrape to clean the base. One base wax. And One temp specific. Scrape, brush, ski.

I hot wax them 2-3 times a season, and cold wax them whenever they need it after that. Wax isn't too important in pow anyway.

i was them like once a month with a iron and then like every weeek i use viper rub on.but the rub on sucks when its warm out cuz it slows you down considerably.other then that i like the rub on just cuz its so easy to use.

man i rearly wax as much as i should but maybe like once every 2 months....that will be my goal this year is to do it every other weekend or once a month..i really just do it when it feels like i need it.

I do it maybe 15 times a season. I did alot of skiing around my yard and stuff so they wore down fast I used this toko stuff that was quick.

i wax them myself about every two weeks, more when i'm at home, less when i'm at school cause i got nowhere to wax them, but now that i have a house at school, they will get waxed more often

once a week and i'll get in usually 3-4 days of skiing in a week plus backyard sessioning so once a week seems about right, now that i got some pipe cleaners it may be even more often tho

hand waxing is way better than what they do at most ski shops. they use an machine that is not set for your specific skis and will only do a factory job.

every night before i go i have to buy about 30 bucks worth of wax a season i stole my iron from my mom and bought a scraper for 10 bucks. so it isint that expensive to do, so just buck and buy some stuff

i do it about once every 3 to 4 weeks.

but i ahve a question. would leaving a bit more wax underneath the foot area help prevent gashs in the base from rails?

its just a thought

i wax every three to four times that i go out.

alot depends on the conditions also. if it wet snow i wax more. you should wax about every three to four times you go out.

you shouldnt tell me what to do.

I dont wax, i go fast, period.

I dont think waxing is a bad idea. at all. I just dont do it.

not enough, like once a season and i ski around 60 to 70 days. does anyone know if it just slows you down or if it actually hurts your skis.

I'm sorry... I don't really understand what you mean.

are you saying you don't scrape every time you wax? Leaving the wax on your skis will slow you down like no tomorrow.

Waxing Skis for Dummies:

-Drip hot wax on ski

- Iron it out so that a thin layer of wax covers the ski

- let wax cool (20-30 minutes)

- scrape wax using a tool designed for waxing skis (you can pick one up at any shop for 5$)

- Buff the skis with a buffing cloth. (another cheap buy at the shop)

Your skis shouldn't be covered in wax when you're done... if they are, you need to re-learn how to wax.
