i was waxin my skis tonight and realized that they get pretty warm when you are runnin the iron down the base to spread the wax...any of you guys ever heard of skis comin apart from that? just wonderin

dude your iron is probly way to hot if you think that. It should just melt the wax, if there is any like smoke or sizzling noises it's way to hot.

it was barely melting the wax but i had to run it over a bunch of times to met it and spread it, so it probly just got warm...it wasnt sizzling or anything, i was just curious if anyone has heard of that happening

yeah it can. if you have an iron made buy a waxing company (eg. toko, bakoda, swix, etc...) they're not meant to get hot enough to cause damage to bases.

hey, yea its normal, you want the ski to get warmed up when your waxing em because, that way you know the wax has worked its way into the pores of the base which is what you want to happen. You don't want to get it so hot its too hot to touch the ski but, just enough to warm up the top sheet is good. I know this because, the I asked the guy at my local mountain about it and he told me that alright peace

yeah, let the base warm up, but if your topsheets are hot after waxing, then you're fucked...well, not really, but dont let it happen...it can lead ot bad things.

yeah, the topsheet should be warmer than usual. if u're poor like me and use a regular household iron use it at like the wool or cotton blend setting, which everone's lower.

the key is to not leave the iron in the same spot keep it moving and not too hot and you shouldnt bubble the base or cause worse damage

Gotta love the midwest

aslong as you keep the iron moving you will be ok you will know that you have heated the ski to the right point when it has reverse camber. The harder (colder) the wax you put one the longer this will take. If you iron for to long the ski can delaminate which is fixable or warrentiable

just make sure that the vapor trail is no longer the 10 inchs. Anyone looking for a good tuning guide on all of tuning, should just go down to there local ski shop and as for a tuning brochure. I know that toko has realy good one (its free too) and it covers everythiing.
