Waxing skis

Ok, this is a dumb question, but I just want to hear if anyone has any tips on how they wax their skis, I just melt the wax on the skis, then coat them evenly, then scrape the rest off, is that all there is to it, any info would be great, thanks, Nik

well after you scrape it steal a scoth brite pad from your mom, you know the little green scratchies, then buff them with the pad until there is no excess wax on your skis or your edges.

look at the post just a bit down thats called 'tuneing skiis' i think thats what its called.

Do I look hard core?

don't forget to scrape the wax that runs onto the edges off... and iron multiple times while being carful not to overheat the skis (it will ruin the bases)

get some candle wax, make sure it's not scented. it legit works so well. take a household iron and make sure it has holes in it otherwise the iron will be so hot it'll burn your bases. melt the wax on the skis so that the wet wax completely covers the bases. then set the iron down on the skis and leave it for about 4 minutes. it wont burn through because of the ventilation holes. move the iron every 4 minutes until you've covered the surface. then take a sheet of metal with a smooth edge and scrape all the wax off. it helps to sort of chisel at it to really get it all gone. then take some steel wool and a hairbrush and use it to brush the rest off. repeat with the other ski

Awesome this was so helpful. Although i find letting it sit for 10 minutes better so that the next day you go skiing the bases are still warm and you go REALLY fast!

Thats interesting. I'll have to try that next time. So i'm guessing the warm bases and edges will help cut through the snow?

dude that's retarded, 10 minutes will burn a hole straight through your skis. ted ligety's trainer talked to me about this when i was at mt hood and he did a whole study and 4 was the perfect amount of time

he was making fun of you.... who the fuck uses candle wax and leaves an iron sitting on a ski base??
thiis guys so legit...

over heating can ruin the shape of your ski... next time you wax look at the camber of your ski... then go over it a few times with the iron and look at the camber again... when its hot from the iron the ski flattens and the camber returns once it cools down.. over heating could probably lead the the ski not returning completely to its original camber... but im not an expert, so i don't know if thats true or not but i'm not about to iron the shit out of my skis to find out

right before I leave the skis to sit a bit before scraping, I do a pass on each with the iron in my right hand followed by a steel brush in my left so the wax heats and the brush leaves grooves in the wax... like race bases? less surface area touching the snow=faster? I dono this is just how my dad taught me to do it... and then at the very end I rub both skis with a big piece of cork to really work in any way the bases absorbed

^ it was a joke you idiot...... and also.. this is a real tip... make sure your skis are at room tempature or the wax will not nsink in properly
