yeah, i just got a dakine iron that was on sale and i opened it up and it didnt have a thermometer, you just plug it in. i am wondering if this is a bad idea because i cant tell if it is too hot or not. should i get one that has a thermometer, or should i just trust that it will stay at a safe temperature?

thanks for the help.

Depends on how serious you do this. most shop will iron with regular clothes iron that only have a on/off swtich. if you race seriously, you want a thermometer, if not,who cares.

For waxing my skis i just use and old clothes iron and it works fine. Just don't let it sit on the ski, keep it moving all the time, then it won't burn.

Get it as hot as you can without the wax smoking. Done, there's your thermometer.

yeah, the thing is i cant adjust the temperature. i plug it in, and it is on, no adjustments. so i geuss i will just use it and if it smokes i will take that trash back. i just dont want it to get hot enough to melt my bases.

thanks for the help everyone. if anyone has more suggestions that would be great.

i've got an iron like that. it works great most have a max temperature thats low enough not to hurt bases. the key is just not to let the wax smoke and keep the iron moving.

^of course that depends on what colour wax you're using. But if you only use red, yellow or white waxes, you won't have to worry about screwing your ski up. Only cold hard blues are when you have to make sure not to fuck up, because you have to heat blue super hot to make it melt.

If you're only using it on alpine skis and aren't too serious about your wax type, it wont be a problem. If you are planning on using it on nordic skis, however, send it back and buy a different iron.

Hahahaha, you dont need to know what temp its at, even if its smoking a bit its fine. Unless your a racer, then you might wanna invest in a good iron.

i use a clothes iron and like it drips this brown stuff out but it doesnt seem to be effecting the ski. anyone else had this happen to them?
