Hey, what do you guys think i usually wax my brand new skis and stuff the first time out... but is it even worth it, arent the new skis already hot waxed before they are shrink wrapped? Will this just slow me down? they reason I usually do it is to protect the bases, but are they already nice and protected the first time out... anyone who knows reply!

-i just farted, can you smell it?-

most skis are factory tuned. Don't waste your wax.

its best to give your bases a good 3-4 coats of wax before riding them for the season...this will ensure that they keep SOME moisture in them, and will not dry out...becuase once your bases dry out, you're stuck waxing for a long time...keep wax on them during the summer months (wax, and then dont scrape) and then scrape it off and wax it again before you ski for the first time...your bases are really easy to dry out, so keep them waxed up...the factory wax isnt as much as you would think it is, they just put it on there to help with the sales pitch and to give the base a starter wax.

ya, ther is sometimes a protective coating, otghertimes just the stone grind. I had some major isues with snow sticking to my new skis, while my friend had a CM of wax on his new ones.... really depeneds.

I think you should ride them for a while before you wax them because there is some factory shit on them

unless you aren't using them for a while (which i hope you're not) the wax is pretty much not needed. if you aren't using them right away, throw a coat of wax on them just to keep the bases fresh and 'dank', if you will

'Are you guys going jump tricking on the snowboard ramps?' -My friend's, less new school oriented father

any half decent shop should throw a layer of wax on when they mount them for you

'I should put my camera on a tripod - its easier to drink beer that way' - dirty steve

my buddy gave me this brick of this 'trick wax' stuff which is super fast and lasts forever. It smells nice too, which is how you can tell if it's still on there. I've had it on my skis for like 2 weeks straight @ like 4 days a week on snow, and it's still going strong.

i work up at a freeride shop in killington, and this is how we go about it

if u get a new ski, it already has wax on it, putting more on it just screws it up, cause your mixing different waxes together, never a good thing cause it actually slows u down in most cases

best bet, ski them a few days, then bring them home and wax them a half dozen times, just drip and scrape, that way u get the wax deep into the base. from there just wax them as they need it and u should be good for the season

it amazes me how dumb people are. waxing is a very necessary thing. wax as much as possible and as much as you can afford, the more you wax your skis the better off you are mixing waxes does not hurt or hinder your skis. i have been to many waxing classes if they are new skis you should definitely throw more wax on there if you were lucky enough they did put some wax on them it probably isnt shit and probably wasnt done well. coming from a race background i still wax my skis before every use even if its multiple days in a row, taking care of your skis will just make them last longer. and as for the best wax unless you are a very experienced skier you wont notice a difference in waxes unless you are using the completely wrong wax for the temperature of the snow.

Gotta love the midwest
