go to a hardwear store, and get p-tex candles... and drip them into the core shot.... then get a metal scraper or razor and cut off the access so its flush. and for hot wax, i think you answered your own question. go to your shop, or order some wax online. Then buy an iron from a Goodwill or thrift store, and do it. (search bar, or google will tell you how)

If your using ptex on coreshots the repairs are gonna pop out quick.

About the 10th time ive posted this link this week but they by far have the best tuning resource on the web.

if you have a core shot you need to base weld it, which involves ptex and some epoxy or resin, and then getting them to bond together as they harden. not something you really want to undertake in your garage. if they are bad, take them to a shop. if its just some scratches, then ptex will do the job. as far as wax goes, a bar of swix universal warm and universal cold usually gets me through the season. hit up walmart for an iron for about $3.

ya, for a true core shot (it's exposing the wood) you need to get base weld or something; although if you're not experienced you should probly just have you're local shop fix it up for you.

you should go to your local shop and ask them to do it. or you can get some ptex (free if you are nice or have pizza). you light the candle thing on fire, let it drip into the wounds in your bases. then blow taht sucker out or itll keep dripping everywhere. then use a scraper to scrape off whatever is excess (sticking out of the wound) so its all smooth again. then you get wax. hold the bar of wax (from a shop) up to an iron. let it drip on. you should put enough on, but not too much...i cant explain how much...then you use the iron to kinda smooth it out over all of the base. once its all on there, scrape that shit off with a scraper. get something abrasive to smooth it out. wipe. and go.

the wax fills the pores in your ski, so scraping it off may seem weird, but its right.

NOW you have the experience to work in a shop.

yeah, be careful. one time i tried to flick my wrist to put it out like a match and it dripped/sprayed ptex on my hands. now i have a couple of pretty scars. and ptex burns are the worst.

I used to be a racer so i know my wax and base repair stuff. Your core shots you should probably use an epoxy that is made for the cold and fill it up almost all the way, then drip p-tex over it and scrape it off about 3-5 min. after you drip it so it's still kinda warm. As for wax, i use swix ciera nova. For cheap and effective stuff use their CH (hydrocarbon) waxes, if you have money to burn i'd suggest investing in some LF (low flouro) wax from them. Make sure you use a wax iron, not a clothes iron because different waxes are meant to melt at different temperatures and in a clothes iron, wax gets stuck in the holes and burns. Wax irons can be pretty expensive (50-300 dollars) but if you use it a lot, its worth it to shell out for the basic swix one. The helpful part about using swix waxes and wax irons is that there is a setting for each number swix wax right on the iron(the number corresponds to the snow temp it should be used with).

Anyways, i hope that'll help someone. PM me if you want any more details or advice.

ive never had a chemical burn like with acid, but i bet it feels similar. what really is fun is when they start like sputtering and the p tex goes out in little tiny flecks in all directions and your like "SHIT THIS BETTER NOT GET IN MY EYES!" and you throw the fucker onto your floor and blow at it from a distance, but when you try to pick it up its stuck to the floor and that inspires some more profanity and then you give the kid his skis and you like "you better be the best fucking kid out there now asshole". then you sulk back in your little seat holding your burned hand randomly pausing to say "fuck" and then you get some free pop from the lady up front and shit there until you get off your shift while no more customers come in so your bored as shit then you go to your car and its all covered in snow and shit and you like "i cant fucking drive this" but then you drive home and just go watch Mr. Deeds and feel better, but you look at your hand and just say "fuck" one more time.
